Yep. I sure wish someone would drop a great 1080p 60 FPS webcam that checks all the boxes. What would really be great would if it had interchangeable lenses like a DSLR. I realize I'm dreaming now and that's likely not feasible.

Small correction: *Pop filters* are meant to protect the mic from picking up plosives and sibilants. A shock mount is the cage-enclosure which surrounds the mic and uses tension to suspend it, independently. It therefore eliminates vibration, aka "shock", to the microphone. (This one does not come with one and as such, would easily pick up a rap on the desk, transmitted through the support arm, into the mic.)

I think the GoXLR mic sounded the worst out of the bunch for this particular test. Still seems like it might be a decent value, with the color options and the included pop filter.

It's very bad sounding indeed. Way too much mids, almost now low end and sounds muffled. I don't know where the high cut is, but I guess it is around 8kHz. I don't understand, why he says it's very flat sounding. Makes no sense to me. Test on my monitoring speakers and headphones. It's almost terrible.

It's really not that bad... 99% of people aren't audiophiles, and this is more than enough for them. 'Decent value'? It's a fantastic quality mic for the price.

I thought that the GoXLR mic sounded a bit muffled. I know this isn't a fair comparison, but there was a big difference in the video when he goes from the intro using the shotgun mic directly to the GoXLR mic.

I usually prefer the mv7 over the podmic but in the test I much preferred the podmic. I thought the goxlr mic had a rough unclear sound and almost sounded like it was going through usb

The goxlr mic actually sounded really muffled on my end using wireless earbuds. I’m sure that’s something you can EQ but it seemed pretty glaring to me

imo this sounded WAY worse than the Podmic. Actually the Podmic sounded the best to me. The others sounded muffled / too lowend. Nothing you couldn't adjust in EQ, however out of the box and in the test i enjoyed the Podmic WAY more than any other mic.

I agree.. was shocked when he liked the XLR mic the best. Listening back multiple times, it does sound different from the rest having like a raw feel and I can see some ppl preferring it. But man, the pod mic imo for the price, best affordable XLR mic ever. So clear and cheap.

Completely agree. The Podmic actually sounded the most "natural" to me.. I don't understand audio but to me the go XLR and Sm7B sounded like they're fat and heavy and low...in an unnatural way (does this even make sense?).

I think for $150 bucks it's a solid mic. It looks great, isn't huge, and sounds decent. Obviously matched up to the SM7B the SM7B will win every time, but you're paying almost $300 more for it. This is gonna be a HUGE seller for anyone getting into the youtube/Twitch content creation scene!

Sorry but the SM7B is so overrated. Most streamers buy it because they think they sound like a pro by default with it but they don't understand that you can sound perfect even with much cheaper mics with the right settings.

@@80sGamerAndSon I agree. I went from a Guitar Hero USB Mic, Logitech desk mic, Blue Snowball, to Elgato Wave 3. I've learned quite a bit about Eq and stuff. With my wave 3 currently, I have 3 modes that all sound super crisp, (A 'somewhat' heavy bass Podcast sounding mode, A more Voice actor presence sounding mode, and one that doesn't even sound like it's EQ'd)

This tc helicon mic i thought sounds way better than most mics in the price range and i wish i had this instead of my other backup mic (at2020). I will stick to my heil pr40. I can't wait for bandrew to review this

BEACN XLR-Interface with build-in VoiceChanger like the GoXLR would be so damn amazing. I love the BEACN software and those buttons to switch between faders displayed a lot!

All that Beacn has to produce is a solid XLR interface where we can put our own VSTs into it and has system wide audio control. basically make the mix create with an XLR jack, Aux Audio In, and a headphone jack and I'm all in. I mean this just has to be the next product by them right?!

The GoXLR mic definitely stands out next to the Shure SM7B in my opinion. I am listening to this video with a pair of ATH-R70X's and JDS Labs "The Element" AMP/DAC and you can definitely notice how "fuller" those two sound compared to the Rode and MV7 mics. Would love to see a comparison with this one against the Beacn Mic as I've been eyeing up that one for sometime now.

Thanks for the quick review, might be my goto... I almost bought a SM7B last week, but was hesitant due to cost, this is a very budget-friendly alternative. As you said, the SM7B sounds a bit more flat (without EQ) than the GoXLR, but out of the box, I prefer how the GoXLR sounded, which would sound even better once EQ'ed. I always found the PodMic to have somewhat of a metallic sound, a bit like the PodMaster and the MV7B/X, the explosive syllables are a bit to pronounced IMO.

It sounded good with the XLR Interface and it seems to be an extension product for it as the XLR Mic. Hopefully when you tested it out with the Beacn, you use it without the XLR and just pure plug and play just like Beacn + the awesome software. Looking forward for the next video. Note: This is very helpful in today's market since everything is returning back to normal. Kudos!

It'd be interesting to see a review on the Presonus Revelator Dynamic. It's USB-C, has a reasonable DSP, and might honestly be a second-rate SM7b. It'd also be interesting to see how you personally think it'd compare with the other mics, particularly this one, and maybe even the SM7B.

Definitely hope you do a video on this vs. The Becon mic. Always wanted the Goxlr with the Rode mic. But since your vid on the Becon set up i was pretty excited to get that. But now im waiting to see if i should just get the Goxlr with the goxlr mic. Too many decision. Help! 😂

I'm still using my goxlr, because it's perfect for my need, only one device for audio routing, enough power for the SM7B and 250ohm headphone, and the all sliders for audio. Agreed, with Beacn making an XLR interface 100%

GoXLR Mic sounded hollow and compressed to my ears. And the plosives still seemed too prominent with the pop filter to me as well. Currently own a Podmic and it's served me well for the last 2 years, but at this point my eventual upgrade would only be an SE Electronics Dynacaster or an SM7B if there was a killer deal. ***UPDATE*** Been using my new SE Electronics Dynacaster for 2 weeks and am in LOVE with it. Still say the Podmic was the perfect gateway for me to get here and I still like the sound of it, my needs just changed and the Dynacaster fits my needs better at this point.

Harris! great video, and love that Helicon is making sure people know just because Becon is a thing, they are not out the streaming game. suggestion, if you ever want to get a co-caster in your videos might I recommend a women streamer. One thing about mics like the SM7b is it has great mids, and provides a great range in the lows. But sometimes it over emphasizes the lows, as a women creator its often the opposite of what you want. With voices in the higher ranges last think you want is to sound like is Barry White. Best way to put it. I know us guys like the warmer outputs, but women often look for brighter outputs. So far the best mic I have seen for that is the Robe Pod, its very crips, the Becons not to bad ether, but its a little crunchy. Love your take on the brighter mics, and if you had any other mics you feel fit the bill.

Listened on my JBL floor speakers and the GOXLR Mic and the SM7B sounded close enough I would EQ them about the same. The other 2 sounded like they were missing something. I really want a pair of those GOXLR Mics now.

I was trying to decide between Rode Podmic and Procaster. I like this more than the podmic, and it still is cheaper than the procaster for the better sound. I really think I’m going the get the GoXLR mic after seeing this.

I was gonna say I liked the MV7 the best but the more I listened to it, the more the sound of the GoXLR Mic started to grow on me. I would cut back on the highs a little bit and lift the lows/low-mids up to give it a little more boominess to the sound but that's probably personal taste. I still do really like the MV7 but the plosives were probably the most evident in it too

Great test. Unless you come up with a better sub $200 dynamic mic, this is the mic to have. So, now my condenser mic is the AT2020 and soon my dynamic mic will be this one. What boom arm are you using? I am leaning towards the PSA 1+. For color combo, Black and yellow. If I used the green, it would look funny with my green screen. Thanks for another great vid.

I'm using some nice over ear headphones and going from the main video microphone into the sound test they all sounded off to me. The change to the GoXLR mic was jarring. I think I actually prefer the podmic for it's less muddy sound. The SM7B is my second choice.

With mics under 150, can you do an environment test too? A wall that doesn't have sound absorption, maybe with a window that allows road noise in. When acoustic wall covering costs like 40 bucks, idk, it matters for the price of the mic whether you need both or not

Beacn do need an XLR interface maybe just have an extension of the mix create so its does preamps and cloudlifting but then defaults all control to a mixcreate? Kinda like make it a platform that attaches to the mix create using some magnets or just a friction mount?

i listened with both my beyerdynamic DT 1990 pros and my 900 pro x, and the GoXLR mic has a very overly-driven high end. almost whispy or lispy sounding like the way danny glover speaks. the sm7b would have benefitted in the test by having the presence boost enabled since almost everybody else uses it that way. i also know the xlr on the mv7 sounds noticeably different on the mv7x and that wasn't really the fair comparison in that regard because the correct mv mic would have sounded better. the pod mic was sick though. it always surprises me. either way, enjoy the free engagement on the video..

I have found a really nice Camera that you might be interested in your next video. What makes this interesting? It costs around 79€, it does have 1080p in 30 and 60 fps and 4k in 30 fps. It can be used using HDMI out using Camlink or it can be used just with a USB cable without Camlink (it does require a little trick though). I think it would be a great Candidate for your budget Camera List. Its the Wolfang G100

I don’t need another microphone but that’s a decent sounding mic and it does look good. Customizable is good! 😉

I have a crazy idea... I think they are using the same capsule with the shure sm57 :) because I have sm57 and they sound identical... (a bit difference and I believe it's caused by the design inside and the shape.) Even the gain they need is identical!

if I was Harris I would take the white mic the black pop filter black bottom screw on piece (for the ring) the white hinge red ring to make the senpai 1 lol

I like the idea of being able to change the colours, but considering it just adds a bunch of plastic waste def bums me out when RGB already exists. Then again I have no idea the cost difference of a light+diffuser vs a circle of plastic.
