Modifying a new set of Tech7s and figured I would put together a short review. These are my favorite all-around boots, and there's an easy modification you can do to help the toe tighten around your foot a bit better and to keep that lower buckle from popping open. Check towards the end of the video for that.
Apologies for the wandering camera; it is a bit tough to figure out where my chest is aimed.

I know it’s been 5 years. But dude I just got my new boots and I couldn’t adjust the strap. Followed your video. Turns out it was wrongfully installed. 5 minutes job and it’s good as new. So much love ❤

A little tip to getting the insert in and out, use a heat gun to warm up the plastic, makes it very easy.

To gain access to the bottom strap (to trim), just pull hard on it and twist back and forth. It will pop right out with out using a screw driver on the pivot.

Thank you sir! Just trying on my new Tech 7 enduro and found the bottom strap was too long. Now I can fix my new boots.

Great video, really surprised that an Italian designer would make a mistake like this. Or that it would get through QA. Italians are generally on the smaller side. I did see someone recommending using ChainWax to lube the hinge (as I recall, he said it was recommended by Alpinestars). My only concern would be that the petroleum would have a negative impact on the plastics. Usually on plastic and unknown o-rings and such you would use pure silicone (brake grease) to prevent the material from expanding. To clarify, petroleum based lubricants can cause swelling in normal rubber, I have heard similar issues with plastics but I do not know for sure. Pure silicone lubricants do not cause this issue. This is why it pure silicone is used around brakes. Note that aerosole silicone is not pure silicone and generally contains petroleum. Can the hinge be taken apart?

No, the hinge can't really be disassembled.

I bought New Tech 10 model (2019) boots a few months ago and have a big issue with these straps and buckle receivers. When I hit some rocks or roots with the external side of the boot, the lower and middle straps loosen up from the round buckle receiver and they fall down and I lost them in the soil. Only saw that when I stopped later. The aluminum tip strap without tension lose up from the buckle arm and the entire strap fall down... Alpinestars must review these buckles and straps :(
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 4 жыл бұрын
I've not come across that issue with mine. The only time I've had the straps pop open on me is generally when the strap was adjusted too loose. They need a fair amount of tension on them to keep the latches closed.

been looking at the Tech 7's, but after all those problems i think i'l get a new pair of Sidi's. 100-120 hours from a boot is shocking, i've had my crossfire 2's 6 years, i ride most weekends, mx and enduro and do long days of enduro riding in Wales. 6-7 hours on the bike. they've only just ripped a whole in the side where they used to hit the footpeg kickstarting my old Kawasaki

@gearheadE30 3 жыл бұрын
The older crossfire 2's seem to be really durable; I do have some friends who've had quality issues with newer ones. I think maybe I am hard on boots, since I'm generally happy to get two years (probably close to 200 hours plus ADV riding) before they are totally done.

@@gearheadE30 yeh I have the crossfire 2 SRS ones. I put the enduro soles on them recently but just out of choice not because the originals had worn out. yeh I lived in Australia for 2 years and saw lots of people complaining about quality issues with the CF 3's, mainly complaints of the soles peeling off due to a new glue being used since the factory has moved.

Is there a big difference walking around as far as traction with the enduro sole vs the standard sole
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the standard sole is fine when it is dry but is a real struggle if it's wet at all. The enduro sole is a big step forward, but still nothing like a hiking or work boot. I haven't noticed any difference in sole stiffness. The downside is the sole wears out a bit more quickly, just because there is less surface area on the pegs and levers.
@Steveman61
@Steveman61 4 жыл бұрын
No, its not a big difference. Once it is muddy they both are a pain. But the MX feels much better on the pegs. The Enduro sole often gets caught, especially on pegs with sharp spikes.

Super late to the show, but I'm having troubles deciding between a size 11 and 12.. I'm concerned going down a full size will make them too small. I've got a full thumb width when standing on the insole from toe to end
@jomacba
@jomacba Жыл бұрын
The padding does pack out a bit to be honest. I went a full size down from my normal shoe size and was a bit concerned about the size too, but after a couple hours the boots form well to the foot. To be honest, when standing on the pegs, you heels would typically drop, and pull the toes away from.the toe box. The last thing you want is to be swimming in your boots when riding. Just my two cents :)

Which do you prefer? The standard model or the enduro model?
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 9 ай бұрын
Standard for me as a racer, I don't ever want the lugs on the sole to catch funny on the pegs while riding hard. For trail riding or adventure, get the Enduro so you can hike or push more easily if you need to.

I never really looked for a place to just buy the soles. I actually returned mine to Alpinestars for replacement, but can't seem to find the website now. MXbootrepair and others still advertise Tech 7 soles though.

Has anyone noticed a change from the old tech 7 to the new. I just got a new pair and the suck up water like a sponge. Unhappy with the new tech 7.

The lowestmost strap receiver is the point of entry for water. Get the strap adjusted to your liking, then add silicone caulking (Black or Clear) around this area.

120 hours of riding ? That makes about 20 days of trailriding ?...is that it ?
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 2 жыл бұрын
I believe they, like most boots, would last a lot longer trail riding. That's 120 hours of racing, or practicing for racing.
