How did two historians help dozens of writers, producers, crew members, and actors from HBO’s "Perry Mason" television series re-create Depression-era Los Angeles as accurately as possible? William Deverell and Elizabeth Logan of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, who served as the historical consultants on "Perry Mason," join Alta Live to detail their extensive research, reveal some surprises they discovered throughout their work on this hit series, and tell us what it’s like to be on a modern Hollywood set that’s supposed to look exactly like 1933. History buffs and TV fans alike, you don’t want to miss this episode!

We had our milk delivered in the 50s. The milk was delicious with a bubble on the top of the glass bottles containing actual cream. Wonderful taste to homogenized milk when ice cold. Doesn’t taste the same at all today.

Thanks for this! The history in the show feels so realistic to the era, I always hated how 1920s era media has always been overly-glamorous and ignored the realities of the depression, this show delivers such a great realistic portrayal its amazing, even down to the famous cases of the time! Great job to these two for their awesome work, awesome interview! I also have a secret theory that the creators of the show are Socialists because the classist lens in the show is SPOT on and truly informed!

Ya socialism is so cool I like the parts where millions of people starve to death. Or the parts where CCP organ harvests from ethnic minorities, take you commie clown act to Canada where u belong.
