Andy- not sure if I am more impressed by the saw, the lift table, or your enthusiasm at having your son working with you. So happy for you that everything seems to be coming together for you and your business. Upgraded kit, “new” helper, and expanded shop. Looking good sir.

Congratulations on the new Altendorf! I'm green with envy. That's a seriously sweet machine. I've been waffling for some time among a Format 4 Kappa 400 (Felder), a Martin Machine T65, and an Altendorf F45. A slider is a real game changer for someone like me whose been running traditional American cabinet saws for years (though I do break down panels with a Festool track saw). Alas, sticker shock! Even the Robland, Hammer, and SCMI cost a pretty penny. Every time I get close to making a decision, I think of the enormous cash outlay, and I get a terrible case of cold feet.

Great video & an amazing saw. can I ask your advice on something? I've just bought the Robland fZ300 as my first panel saw. I'm struggling with ripping wider panels. Say I put a clean edge on the board & I want 2 cuts at 550mm I can bump & cut the first one. However the second cut will be unsupported by the sliding carriage. Is the only solution to stand at the back & handle it like a table saw? As this makes the sliding carriage redundant. Any advice would be appreciated.

I use an older generation of an Altendorf saw like this, it's good but it's not as perfect as you say. The saw is calibrated to expect an exactly 1/8" saw kerf, so when you send your blades out to get sharpened you have to take carbide loss into account. I suppose it's not an issue if you're the only one operating the saw, but we have 10 cabinet makers and probably over 40 saw blades that get constantly changed and sharpened. It's a lovely saw but realistically it only offers convenience, not accuracy.
@ManorWood
@ManorWood 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure I used the word perfect ? But since I bought it it’s change the way I work . I will share more videos soon on how and why . I guess most this will need a re cal if cutter wear or you change a blade ? Or is the a saw which auto re cals? I changed the rip fence from high to low and forgot to check , but the saw know and sorted it without me doing anything
@williammuir8901

Hi Andy do you need to calibrate the panel saw every time you get a saw sharpened?
@ManorWood

I haven’t thought about that , I guess I’d the blade is re tipped it would be ok 3.2mm. It’s very easy to tweak the and adjust

Looks great. CNC saw fence is so awesome it save so much time from the "nudge technique" you will never want to go back. Not sure if Altendorf is the same but be careful when switching from high to low fence, you might need to push the fence button, not that I ever forgotten that and cut wrong. ;) Might I ask roughly how much the machine cost would be great for when looking for which manufacturer to choose in the future. Thanks. Also looking forward to see the new shop. Have a great Christmas/holidays.
@ManorWood
@ManorWood 2 жыл бұрын
Funny you should say about the fence, I cut some MDF for a friend and without thinking change the fence from the high to the low didn’t even think about adjusting pressing anything, The next morning when I switched it back for a different task I thought oh my God have I cut the wrong measurement but luckily the Saw are just self automatically soon as you move the fence

That’s a question lots of people ask me, I just prefer them , i’m not saying there’s anything wrong with the Felder saw and I’m sure they have some amazing features as all there Machines do.
