Couldn't have put it any better. What an extraordinary lady. Singer/songwriter/performers on her level are so few and far between, but when songwriters open up about what inspired them to write, I find it so so fascinating. Amy has often been described as being the Goddess of female vocalists, and it would be very hard to argue, but apart from that, the respect she gets for being who she is both on and off stage is solid gold. God bless her.

The truth is, there's really no mainstream market for this genre of music. They came on the scene at the exact right moment. They rode the wave and now have the freedom to express themselves musically without the need or pressure of becoming number one on the billboard charts again.

My best friend in high school (early 2000s) got me into Evanescence and Linkin Park. She and I were the weirdos in our preppy school and really only had each other. We loved Amy Lee to much and her music helped us through those difficult years. In 2015 (10 years after we graduated), my best friend died from a drug overdose. Her death sent me to a mental health ward for a week and I couldn't listen to Evanescence for the longest time. It breaks my heart that she'd never got to see Evanescence come back or watch this interview. She would have loved this. I miss her so much.

She is the realest singer ever, she is always humble, down to earth, she answers things and questions out of her own real beliefs and thoughts and authenticity, I really connect and all other fans aswell with her bc of that uniqueness we find in her lyrics, her singing, the sound of what the band has mad. I agree, she has done things without giving a F* if people will like it, if she really believes in it and push through doing it, it has always came out amazingly well. I loved all this decade because we got to see her fulfill her dreams like making music for independent films and movies and big production movies aswell, she did covers just for fun in her own way with simple but amazing music videos, she did a whole EP with her family for her baby like for real that captured her brother, uncle, dad and sisters and other relatives in a record that will be part of her memory and love forever as a family. I think she needed that, to tap into other fields in the music, try different genres, the show with Paula Cole, playing with friends, making music with them (lindsey stirling, waggaki band, halestorm, BMTH) I mean, it just all feel it came out when it needed to happend. Amy did great and got a lot of experience by doing all of this, hence why we can now have such a wider range of different songs

the early material (some of which got reused multiple times up to and including on Fallen) were the steps that needed to be taken take to grow as a singer and songwriter.. the voice was ALWAYS there. you only need to hear Exodus, one of the first things they ever recorded, ONCE to know that.. but as you progress through the discography, the growth is just as clearly evident.. even stuff that didn't make albums but we eventually heard anyway like Anything for You (another of my personal favorites) as far as I'm concerned, she is the 21st century Goddess of Rock

They did. David was fired as per Wind-up Records request. This was fatal for the real band (Amy, David and Ben). Next to my PC screen there is a fairy figurine that looks like you, the way you dressed in that wonderful Anywhere but home DVD show. My PC tower, my actual car and the previous one, have big vinyl stickers with the band's logos on them (both made with a real vinyl cutting machine or cutout by myself as handcrafting projects). The front bumper plate quotes "Warning : Driver under the influence of Evanescence". I also made clocks with the band's logo. This band got me through the absolute worst part of my life. From November 2005 to March 2006, I lost both parents and a second sister. Their songs offered no "it's going to be all sunshine and light again", but the raw, deep searing truth of loss and despair. Their music gave me incredible space to simply grieve and feel my hurt. "My Immortal" will always be the song that makes me think of my mom/ BFF/mentor/soulmate. "Tourniquet" I love because I see it as a deeply spiritual song of praise to God. It always saddens me to hear Amy talk down on the early, pre-Fallen material. There’s such an incredible vibe on those early recordings that can never be replicated. It’s raw, emotional and free of corporate oversight. It’s all the elements that’s still in Evanescence but stripped down in a way only some small town kids in the 90s could make. I don’t want to speak for all fans, but here’s how I see it: Yeah, the obscure nature of the material absolutely adds to the intrigue, Amy is right about that, but the actual songs themselves and seeing how they progress from those early versions to the studio versions is wonderful. It’s real, it’s passionate, it’s honest. Its honesty is as much a characteristic of Evanescence as the music itself, because as this video reconfirms, that honesty is what drew so many fans to Evanescence and Amy in the first place. I hope that there will be an official release of all the old stuff someday. Linkin Park did it on the 20th anniversary of Hybrid Theory. It would be phenomenal to see Evanescence release a package like that of their own.

Unfortunately, I've missed the release of the Origin vinyl a few years ago (because I was too broke) and I would be delighted if they released it again. Love the album and I love all the other pre-fallen stuff. It just has its own spirit, it's quite spooky (which I love) and it's, as you said, very raw and authentic to those times. It's two different perspectives. As a fan, yeah, I love seeing that early stuff, seeing how it sheds more light on their journey and their beginnings. It feels "behind the scenes". Even if there are imperfections, it only makes them look even greater for how far they've come. As someone who as also in a band in high school...even stuff which at the time seemed okay, and others seemed to like, now just evokes so much cringe XD So I totally get why she wouldn't want that stuff out officially XD

@@pxblx It’s not about the material itself, really. All of it has been out there for decades. I already have all of it digitally, so that’s not what this is about. It’s just about celebrating the band’s legacy and saying “I’m not too proud of this stuff, but I do recognize it was the stepping stone of everything that came afterwards and it got me to where I am today.” I’m obviously not trying to tell her what to do, I just don’t see a version of this scenario where anyone would lose anything. This video is everything. She told us the begging of everything, the duality of being at their best as group but at the same time at their worst, some of the most important battles the band had to fight, her development as musician and as being, and all this video just transmit an enormous amount of pureness, feeling, good and bad experiences along the years, and just a little taste of how it feels to be part of Evanescence, and change as person along with the group.

God love you Amy Lee! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your music, which has been with me since I was 13 years old and given me endless places of sanctuary over the course of my life. I have grown and matured with your music and it always has paralleled the things I am going through in the most perfect way. I don't know if one can necessarily look for that kind of fit with an artist, and I attribute it to something unique that I can't find in other music. Evanescence is a spiritual and dear force in my life. I am grateful for your music and will always enjoy seeing what you create next.

Every time I listen to Amy talk about us, the fans, and her music , I get so emotional. She clearly loves us, and it's evident in the music. Some of the hardest times in my life were spent listening to, screaming to, Ev's music and they played a huge part in being able to get through those times.

This is a wonderful video. She such a brilliant and honest artist. I do think she’s at her best when she has more control.I’m just really disappointed she didn’t talk about the open door at all. That is their greatest most unique album. I feel like the transition from falling sound to the open door was a huge part of our history.

I'm an unlikely Evanescence fan, as a huge classic rock fan-- Zeppelin being my all time favorite. But this woman is a phenomenon of stellar musical composition, lyric writing and stirring vocal delivery. The music of Amy Lee and Evanescence is poignant and passionately soul-stiring.

I am so grateful to have found this band. Their music has always been something truly unique and beautiful to behold, but to add to that, that the singer is such an honest and inspiring person who can be held as an incredible example to lots of us... I'm just really proud to be a fan of theirs. This video just highlights so many of the reasons I'll love her and her music for a long as I'm alive. Can't wait to see them live again in London.

In 2003, I was experiencing postpartum depression after my 2nd daughter was born. I was so heavily medicated and miserable and had already experienced severe depression in my life from my childhood & religion. So when I heard ‘Bring me to Life’ I was instantly I guess “comforted” hearing the music because I was so alone in my head and finally it felt like someone else knew what I was feeling. I am so grateful to #amylee for her insanely perfect song writing because she probably saved my life. #onlylove xoxo Sandi

I was recently diagnosed with an illness that would cause me pain my entire life and is likely to kill me later on when I found her music. I was 13, losing my friends because who wants to hang out with someone in pain who can’t go do stuff, and at night Id pace for hours, unable to sit from pain, until I just sank onto the floor. It was a horrible horrible time. My parents didn’t love that i wasn’t their little pop angel anymore, but i finally found music that felt like it had... context. That the world Can be both beautiful AND dark, and I needed to hear that at the time, because there wasn’t any way I could see myself free of that darkness, for years. Some people don’t love certain kinds of music because it depresses them and drives them deeper into that frame of mind. Others feel relieved, validated, and seen, by it, so it’s like... processing your trauma rather than just denying it and going with lighter music that doesn’t address more complex emotions and themes. I really feel so indebted to them for this.

Pop angel huh? Sounds like your folks have no respect or taste. Just saying. Because I'll admit...Lee is part of what kept me from getting all these mental disorders many others around me have(my folks were rock people and I eventually wormed my way through the album Fallen that we had bought and even beyond that). She's the reason I'm freaking happy as hell and can keep being that because I've got an outlet for when I need release. Cause trust me...I've seen enough to have almost put me under multiple times. Sorry you've been dealing with a lot lately, and trust me...we sometimes need to see our dark spots to keep going. Not always but I have problems with people who dole out toxic positivity, when in reality even I know there's shit that can't be brushed off by a good attitude and that some things can be very serious. Stay fighting out there, cause it'll be worth it one day.

It is a great track, as much as I love the other tracks Lies made me listen up and notice. The video is also amazing the first time through I didn't realize it was Amy all the way though she looks totally different as a blond only her eyes and smile gave it away. Her smile I could pick out even if she was mad up as an alien, it's very distinctive and honest (like a window into her, as that is how she comes across in every video like this I have ever seen).

Evanescence has absolutely always been my refuge. It's a safe place for me to rest, and my go to when I need to feel like I'm being wrapped up in a familiar hug. I'm such a people pleaser, always terrified what others think of me, and so I've always admired Amy's strength. Her determination to stay true to herself and care for herself above all other things is inspiring to me. I seek to emulate that in my own life. She cares so genuinely about the music, and the people her music helps, and that is why I will always be a fan.

@@JohnWayne-vf5bs Your error is claiming she's against male vocals, which is false and not what she said. She was against their old label forcing a sexist demand on Evanescence to permanently add a rapper to the band cause they didn't think a female-led band could succeed, and later as a compromise to force it on their first single, which is something that didn't represent them.
