@@TDMiller I am coming from 6mm stacked Merrells so I chose the one with the least stack hight and cushioning. I still needed to remove the inner footbed to get better ground feeling and less "soft" bounce. Feels amazing though. Didn't know I needed an Altra. Your videos helped me to take the plunge. Cheers!

Thanks Joshua! I appreciate every sub and comment! It really just depends on what kind of weather you'll be running/hiking in and how much you dislike wet&cold feet. I made this comparison a few months ago, and have slowly improved my on-camera skills since. I may need to upgrade it one of these weeks, now that the winter is coming again. I'd really only use the all-weather in freezing & snowy conditions, or when I'm walking a lot in the cold & wet. The regular is perfect for trail running, even when it gets slightly colder or wet. The shoes allow any water that comes in to simply drain out without any problems whatsoever. Plus, the regular is significantly lighter and more breathable, which you'd appreciate on your runs. Let me know what you decide! ps. the Lone Peak 6 is rumoured to be released in spring 2022, so I won't be surprised if the 5s go on offer any time soon.

Going into Winter I usually do prefer a waterproof shoe in my collection, but without it having gaiter attachments and the extra weight, I may opt to the non. Besides I can throw on a set of Seal Skinz if really needed. Looking forward to more episodes...well done!

@@TDMiller is it usally the start of winter they go on sale? my lone peaks 3.5s have just died and I need to buy a new pair. Not sure I can wait a few month but if there will be a sale before long I'll wait. Also have you tried the All WTHR boots? If so how where they? Debating between the low and mid heels

Hey Scanjet! I'm pretty sure you'd be able to find the LP5 on offer somewhere around this time of year. At least here in Europe, most webshops are trying to sell them at discounted prices. And I'm sure there will be black Friday deals shortly. I'm afraid I haven't tried the all weather boots. If I was a hiker, I'd go for the boots, as they provide more stability for the ankles and they'd prevent rain and snow to get in. The low are better for running IMHO. Thanks for the heads-up, Thierry! I like my running shoes large, and I tend to get them half a size too big anyway, because I hate stubbing my toes and my toes always turn black otherwise. All my Altra's are 44.5 (US10.5) and I always liked that size, although I could go half a size smaller and still save my toenails. The Escalante and Torin 4.5 Plush feel good with 44.5 (I'd also take a 44) The Rivera feels a little tighter around the forefoot, and the footbed is more shallow than the Escalante and Torin Plush, meaning my toes rub up against the upper. Size 44.5 is good, and I would not go for anything smaller due to the upper. Making the shoe shorter would make it worse IMHO. The LP All-wthr feels good in 44.5, but similarly to the Escalante and Torin Plush, I'd also take a 44 The LP5, feels a lot larger and has a deeper footbed than the Torin Plush, Escalante and Rivera, so I'd definitely would recommend a size or half a size smaller and it will not affect my toes rubbing against the upper. @@TDMiller Thanks Tim. I think we agree that the sizes at Altra are not the same. Seems like every designer has specific molds for each of the shoes. I wear size 40 city, but I use running shoes in size 41. There are only size 40 or 42 in store for the Torin Plush. I think I'll wait. Thank you for your review.

I'd actually buy the LP5 half a size smaller 😅 the all weather is actually pretty good size-wise.

Hey Jonas! I compared the inner sole, and the LP5 is longer, however if I compare the shoes by look & feel, they seem more similar. I'd still recommend getting the LP5 in one or half a size smaller. I may make a comparison video with the Torin 4.5 Plush to show the difference in shape.

Wow, really that bad? I guess I'm used to bouncy shoes 😅 I actually use them mostly on asphalt and even easy non-technical trails without a problem. Gravel stones may get stuck in the exposed midsole. 😕

@@TDMiller I also have two ON shoes. Cloudace and Cloudflyer. Can not go on gravel at all. The sole gets full with rocks... I have wide feet and the ON shoes fit very well.. Excellent quality. But road only..

I ran this morning on a track surface with the Rivera at a slow pace. I was pleasantly surprised with the general protection of the sole on a surface with dirt, gravel, no problems to report. Maybe sometimes a little bit of grip would have been welcome.

Yes, I believe they tried to save some weight by having less outsole compared to the Torin and Torin Plush.

I think it completely depends on how comfortable you are in wet and cold weather. I rarely wear mine anymore, because I only wear them in really wet and cold conditions. The regular LP is actually fine for winter running, but you'll have to be OK with getting your feet wet and cold. The All-wthr is significantly heavier and bulkier, so the benefits may not outweigh the drawbacks.

Hmm, that sounds painful. How much room do you have from your big toe to the end of the shoe? Or do you have plenty of space and you slip forward? They're pretty heavy and hard, so they can be pretty unforgiving. Before you drill any holes, try using other laces (for example Salomon Quicklaces or just from another pair of shoes) or skip the bottom eyelets. That could alter the fit a little bit.

@@TDMiller there's enough space when I put it on but after running like 4-5k, I guess my feet slides forward, I don't really get how these laces are supposed to lock the feet down, I wasn't even going downhill just a few meters.

Hi Bilal, great question! My first impression: The Timp 2 feel great & cushioned for long runs, they are lightweight (280g) compared to the LP5 (305g) and provide sufficient protection on the trails. However the LP5 have more protection around the toes and a rockplate in the sole. Both the widths fit nicely IMHO. However I'm a little frustrated with the LP5 length, as it is obviously larger than the Timp2 in the same size. I'm going to try to replace my Lone Peak 5 with a smaller size. I'll need to run a few more times in them to decide if I'll run my upcoming marathon in either the Timp or LP. I'll be creating an in-depth video shortly! Thanks for your question.

Hi Lamono, in my experience they are quite breathable and keep water out as well. However, because of the waterproof layers, they aren't as breathable as the regular Lone Peak. I used them mainly in cold and snowy terrain and they kept my feet warm and dry, but they are quite heavy, so definitely not a daily trainer IMHO.
