It's so interesting how some choose to reject other cultures, and how others embrace them. In reality, there are many right ways of living a beautiful life, and no way is better than another. We can choose how ethnocentric we are. Awesome animation! Extremely important message!!

It's hard though; now when someone tries to embrace other cultures they're accused of "appropriating" it...people have to learn the difference between appropriation and appreciation.

@@tgbluewolf I understand what you're saying but allow me to say as an American who lived in Japan for awhile we have a bad habit of not doing a proper research of the country we visit. To many times I witnessed Americans disrespecting the host country due to ignorrence. If only we would take some time to learn more than just the basics. I promise you more knowledge about a culture, opens more doors for any visiter.

It's fascinating how at the beginning they're just whining like a kid who has never tried broccoli while they're visiting a new country far away from theirs. It wasn't a common thing to travel all around the world back in that time, this demonstrates how ungrateful and spoiled they were. But what fascinates me even more is that when they saw her naked alongisde with the other workers, they just felt embarassed. Embarassed because she wanted to feel what tradition really is? Other than sushi? Oh, the irony. That lady followed her curiosity, and she learned something. And if someone likes more their everyday life in their country, what's the point of travelling to begin with?

Aw she looked so at home with them in the water. It was sad, like I think the Japanese woman knew she wanted to stay.

So sad... I feel her freedom, relief, shame and wrench inside of me. It reminds me when I was child, I used to escape from the house each time there was a storm and get naked in the garden. This is exactly the same feeling, except the storm is a woman. Finding home outside.

Idk if it's the purpose of it but at the beginning I like the contrast between the traditional Japanese landscape art and the cartoonish English lady drawing style. I think it makes us focus on the contrast between cultures but humans stay the same style that means that wherever humans were they are still the same .humans. (Sorry for writing mistakes it's not my first language)

the others were visiting japan as “tourists,” outsiders sampling little pieces of the popular culture - like eating sushi. But the red haired woman fully immersed herself in the culture by taking part in what the locals were doing. In this way she became more than a tourist - she became one of them.

The thing that caught my attention is how they don't completely reject or accept a foreign culture. They accept what aligns with their view and reject the parts that is different. It's exactly like saying "I'm not prejudiced against gay people, I just think they shouldn't talk or dress the way they do". Which means that yes, you are prejudiced. Accepting under conditions isn't accepting.
