BHI, this Amarok was completely stock engine wise, changing up a gear would work initially but as the hill got steeper the and the loads greater the intake pipe would collapse (from the heat) which would then require a downshift. #1 rule when climbing a hill in a situation like this - select the gear that will get you to the top!

Yes you're right, but i've got an Amarok stock with no mods in the engine and in suspension with 400nm, and i don't need to put the throttle beyond 3000 rpm in low range in any situation, and that engine is screaming over 4000 rpm... of course, is your ute, not mine... best regards!
