@@Meine.Postma Just checked out an Alchemy live performance in what looked like a bar (lots of liquor bottles on a wall next to the band) and I wasn't that impressed. The lead vocal was weak and uninspired. The lead guitar was good in spots but didn't have a flow to the phrasing.And they weren't busking out on the streets.Alchemy's rendition of Down to the Waterline (also in a bar) is better than their version of this song. I much prefer this buskers version over the Alchemy version of Sultans. There is a rendition of Sultans by Mary Spender with her guitar sidekick which is just the two of them on their electric guitars in her home studio which has a very excellent vocal by her putting a sultry take on the lyrics which is very interesting, and her sidekick really has a flow with the lead guitar lines.

Lots of comments about drummer rushing the tempo BUT if you’ve ever heard live recordings of Dire Straits from the 80’s, they played Sultans this fast if not faster. Drummer Terry Williams on Live Alchemy played crazy fills throughout the song like Mitch Mitchell or Keith Moon.

Drummer overplays . To many not needed or required fills
@56TheMick2 жыл бұрын
@@darenwilliams5858 you know nothing....he does exactly what the drummer of Dire Straits does! Only he is too close and has to much volume; he makes more noise than the others and however drum sets are noisy but in real concerts or in the engraving or recording room they mix it like they want and atlast: a drumset is always amplified in concerts or/and in recording rooms because the mixed sound from the amplifier is much better then the drumset sound itself. OK? That's it!

Wonderful - off the charts! Street music is so much more common in the UK than in the States and is generally better quality. During my time time in London, I saw any number of bands playing on the street. During my time in NYC and Chicago, I tended to see primarily solo musicians playing in subway stations. The magic of open air & public live performance is so much easier to achieve for a band than a solo performer.

I think you’re correct in what you’re saying, but just to clarify: this isn’t in the UK! ☘️🇮🇪
@davidsherley26522 жыл бұрын
@@RomeoJulietCharlie As an American I need to confess my lack of understanding here. If Ireland is not part of the UK, is there a term that encompasses both England and Ireland, ie. the whole land mass?
@RomeoJulietCharlie2 жыл бұрын
@@davidsherley2652 Firstly, I think it’s entirely understandable why it may catch people out, especially if you don’t live in Europe! Ireland and England aren’t actually part of the same land mass at all. They’re on different islands, separated by the Irish Sea. England 🏴🇬🇧is on the island of Great Britain (which also houses Scotland 🏴🇬🇧and Wales🏴🇬🇧). The island of Ireland houses two countries; Northern Ireland 🇬🇧 (the smaller of the two, and which is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; with the three countries on the island of Great Britain, and collectively make up the State known as the UK), and the Republic of Ireland🇨🇮 (commonly known around the world just as ‘Ireland’), which is not a part of the UK 🇬🇧 In short: UK = England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. 🇬🇧 Great Britain = England, Scotland, Wales.🇬🇧 Island of Ireland = Republic of Ireland (‘Ireland’)🇮🇪, Northern Ireland 🇬🇧 Not UK = Republic of Ireland 🇮🇪 This is filmed in Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland🇮🇪. To further complicate matters, though, the geographical term ‘The British Isles’ is used to collectively refer to the islands of Great Britain, Ireland, The Isle of Man, and a few thousand increasingly tiny islands in the area, but that’s geography, and nothing to do with the countries that make up the various islands! Personally, I’m from Scotland but live in London, England, and frequently visit Ireland with work (as well as about another 30 countries on a regular basis!).
@RomeoJulietCharlie2 жыл бұрын
@@davidsherley2652 ps. Basically just avoid referring to Ireland either as British or as part of the UK, unless you’re specifically talking about the smaller separate country known as Northern Ireland! 👍🏻 (Similarly, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales could be referred to as British, but not English, if you follow the logic in the overly wordy message, above 😂). I think most folk are generally sensible enough not to take too much offence, though!
