List of Sounds:
- the splash & skitter of rain against cobblestone and roof-tile, rain not unleashed in passionate torrents but sprinkled gently, steadily, soberly, with the prudence and nurturing of nature-as-mother: in time, these clouds will water farmland, but here they merely slow the bustle of a place less green yet more alive
- the endless, sprawling movement of nigh three million Parisiens, borne still on the backs of horses at the dawn of the electric century: fiacres in their thousands, whisked along with a light and willing trot; the determined tramp & trudge of Boulonnais, drawing carts with both merchant and wares; omnibuses, tramcars, and their noble Percherons, courses and gaits unchanging; on rare occasion, the grand emergence of a single horse and single rider, hauling nothing and no one, so great in privilege or public station that they are set above the common need for utilitarian efficiency
- the novel purr of engine and strange melody of automobile horn, as a new Renault landaulet taxi stops for passengers to embark or alight
- the whirring wheels of bicycle-borne hirondelles on patrol, sworn to guard the public peace
- footsteps in ceaseless procession, made brisk and purposeful by the rain, traveling routes shortened effortlessly, unconsciously, by knowledge of the city writ into muscle and bone, Paris offering then the same wordless intimacy as family or lover
- streets glazed with rainwater (and dotted sparsely with small pools) made audible through the random sodden tread of hoof, the spray of an ill-guided wheel, the slickened click of toe or heel, and the uncanny ability of children to seek out and splash in puddles
- the undampened and insistent chatter of commerce, at once a lulling and a clarion-call, the sound of a burgeoning ever-more-strangely severed from nature and weather
- the heaving, quick unloading of wooden crates from carts that are impatiently paused, both traffic and drizzle insisting upon utmost dispatch
- the diligent clatter of silverware, glasses, plates, and bowls echoing like housewives' chitchat among a friendly streetfront circle of restaurants and cafés; the jangle of coins in a busy till
- bottles of wine and liqueur cheerfully clinking as stock is replenished and enticing displays are arranged
- half-muffled, nearby dialogue from various shelter-seeking pedestrians who duck momentarily into neighboring doorways (always open), a changing and barely-overheard discourse that one discreetly, politely regards more as music than as voice
- the characteristic flip & fold of newspaper pages from the café patron who believes, indolently, that this is but a passing shower, sure to subside in this hour, or the next, or the next
- the pleasantly sure swishing-open of umbrellas, offering their close embrace of shelter to those who must, now, start walking home
- sporadically, hauntingly, the strains of an accordion joining the susurrating song of rain: it is so much a part of the damp, still air that it seems to "come from" nowhere, perhaps falling with the rain itself from the clouds or rising up like mist from the streets
- only once, the tolling of a single bell from Notre Dame's bell-tower
*
Question: What is an ambience video?
Answer: Pleasant, soothing background images & sound for relaxation, study, play, or work; gently occupies an anxious or unfocused mind without causing unwanted distraction; creates a comfortable, inviting atmosphere; personalizes sparse, colorless, or impersonal environments; enlivens spaces where we live or work alone; fills silence with more subtlety, ease, and warmth than music or TV; offers softly dynamic "rainbow noise" instead of monotonous white noise; enhances interior design & personal style by turning screens/screensavers into live photographic displays.

A NOTE ON ADS: This channel attempts to be ad-free and noncommercial, in resistance to ever-more-intrusive, ever-more-ubiquitous ads and the promotion of unsustainable, dehumanizing consumerism. Any ads that may be visible are inserted automatically by KZfaq without my approval, and to my great distress: I have not authorized and receive no revenue from ads. My channel was established with the sole intention of sharing as an act of love and service.
I do not expect or intend to receive any personal gain; however, some viewers with the generous desire to donate have nonetheless requested a method by which to do so. I lived in Paris for several years until the pandemic forced me to move back to my home country. I turned on the video expecting to hear rain sounds and horse clicking, but when I heard all that French in the background, I started to cry. I miss France so much and cannot wait to return, but for now, this video will help me through. Thank you so very much for this.

Could you do some literary based scenes? For instance, a quiet morning at a sitting room in Pemberly, a windy evening at Thornfield Hall, a snowy afternoon in the Green Gables kitchen. Or places based off of great authors - Beatrix Potter's garden, Shakespeare's study, etc.
@ambienceofyesteryear6871

I have, in fact, already produced some literary scenes; I have just been a bit secretive about it. :) My "Writer's Library from the 1930s" is actually Vita Sackville-West's tower-room study at Sissinghurst. My "Family Kitchen in Victorian Cottage" is Beatrix Potter's cottage, Hill Top. I have also made a video of 221B Baker Street, the famous residence of Sherlock Holmes. Your suggestions are enchanting, though, so I will definitely keep them in mind! :)

Another masterpiece. The great thing in my view, is You put sounds as a background in this. The voices are not loud, are like a cushion at the back. The rain, the horses... It´s really great the ambience you have gotten, only few voices or sounds raise, only a little bit from the rest from time to time. But the fact that there are not stridences or loud sounds, it´s perfect to create the wall of sound to protect the peace and calm of the listener. THANKS SO MUCH!!!

If you consider this to be a masterpiece, that is more of a credit to your own kindness and generosity than it is to me! It makes me so happy that you describe the sounds as a "cushion" and a wall that protects "the peace and calm of the listener" -- I want nothing more than to share a nurturing, safe harbor of serenity. Thank **you** for allowing me to offer this, from my heart to yours. :)

I am always in so much anticipation for your next videos. I follow quite a few ambience channels but neither excels so beautifully in artistry, fullness of the experience and overall perfection than yours. This one is not an exception... I imagine myself as a poet or a painter, having so little money that I have to rent a small room in a crumbling house upper floor, but having a wonderful circle of like-minded friends with whom I walk and talk in the rain, in cafés, sparkling each others' creativity... this video makes me feel at home in the rain and makes my creativity well up in me and urging me to go! create! Immensely thank you for this experience... I will return, over and over, as I do revisit all of your videos.

Your beautiful comment, as always, is like a poem, well-suited to a poor but creatively vibrant Parisian artist. :) I can picture in my own mind the small, high room in the crumbling house, and I can picture the coterie of artists drifting through streets and cafes, adrift also in absorbing conversation, free but not directionless: they are impelled forward by the commanding force of their shared vision. Inspired by them, let us both go! and create! :)

So quaint! The artwork is lovely, I feel like I am looking through a colored photograph into history! The sounds are also so luscious and transport me back in time! The sounds of normal chatter, horse drawn carriages, and pattering rain soothe and entice you. You look out of your window and watch the men who are lingering in groups on the sidewalk, smoking pipes and talking about politics or business in spite of the downpour, or on maids and housewives hurrying home with a basket of groceries and produce. The rain produces a colorful effect on what you see, making the normal scene that you have looked out on for 10+ years seem fresher and more artistic in many dimensions. You look up into the sky, dark from the light storms, and think of all the things that you are grateful for: Your family, your betrothed whom you are madly in love with and due to marry soon, the bustling city, fresh flowers that are at your windowsill, and life in general. Even though this is a normal day, you will remember it for many years to come. Thank you so much for this beautiful ambience! 😍📜❤️

Thank **you** for such a charming and beautifully written comment! I am touched that my video could inspire such lovely musings. I confess that I have no formal background in history -- I am interested only casually, as a hobby. (Because I am naturally meticulous, my casual interest is perhaps more in-depth than the average hobbyist.) My formal education, in fact, has nothing to do with history (or graphic design, or sound design, or anything that might actually serve me well in this particular pursuit): in college, I majored in both biology and English literature, and I subsequently pursued an M.D. until I was forced to leave medical school before obtaining a degree because of serious (and continuing) health issues. If I have any talent for ambiance videos, please know that I have only stumbled into it haphazardly. :) The audio is a mix of my own recorded sounds, freesound samples, and samples provided in KZfaq's "audio library". The sound for each video is then heavily edited/layered: this particular video, for instance, has about 200 layers of sound in total. I always seem to surprise myself with the soundscape that eventually emerges. :) Thank you so much for your very kind comment, and for your kind curiosity. It is my privilege to have you as a viewer!

The fact that you've given my videos the honor of a place in your life means that I have been granted this kind of connection with you, and I'm so grateful for that. :) And yes, I hope to release a new video in the earliest days of December, and it will indeed be set at night!

I do not have a Patreon account, no. I am hesitant to create one because my channel exists with the sole intention of offering service to others, and it is important to me that all of my videos are free and accessible (and without advertisements) for everyone, so I wouldn't be able to provide the "benefits" typically offered on Patreon. Although my income is very low, I also do not wish to solicit donations; I am happy to offer my videos entirely without any material gain. Even so, because viewers have requested a means to donate, I have created a PayPal link for those with the generous inclination to offer their support: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MM7FB7ARAB7LE&source=url. Being granted the opportunity to share my videos with love is more than enough "reward", though, truly! :)
