AMD today announced its new Zen 5 CPU lineup for a release date of July 2024, including the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, R7 9700X, and R5 9600X. These Zen 5 CPUs are a new architecture, but are supported on the existing AMD motherboards with AM5 sockets; however, AMD also announced its new X870 and X870E motherboard platforms (no word officially on the B-series chipsets yet). In addition to the Zen 5 and chipset announcements, AMD extended its life for AM5 into 2027 and beyond officially, citing success of AM4's life as a reason. For other announcements, the company will release new AM4 CPUs in July of 2024 with the 5900XT and 5800XT. It also has new Ryzen 300 AI CPUs, server products that we won't cover in depth today, and more.

Excellent news. I hope AMD get more motherboard vendors online quickly, I'm NOT going with ASUS anymore ... had way too many issues with their motherboards from USB ports not work, to 2 out of 4 memory slots not working, to board displays actually blocking some GPUs in slot 1. Hoping MSI come up with lots of AMD support.

It's partly for investors but also partly for OEMs who will want to focus on shilling Copilot+ branded PCs that will need good NPUs to use the branding. The CPU based AI stuff is particularly useless for a gaming audience because even if you do want to run anything AI related your GPU is going to completely smoke anything a small NPU can do

@@DrakkarCalethiel True that! AMD knows that the end user wants, they do it. Intel for some demonic reasons beyond my humble comprehension still insist on changing the sockets, just their current 12th to 14th gen run needs to be reviewed, I don't know but at this point, I am enjoying my personal AMD run - B650E + 7800X3D - and knowing that these sockets - AM4 and AM5 - will get this kind of treatment makes me so happy, I might be able to snag a CPU later on 2027 or so lol.

Cynically, this is their opportunity to re-price better manufactured, good bins of a mature tech node. Or these are the bins of the high-end dual die consumer line-up (5900X, 5950X). Either way, the acknowledgement of AM4 as a platform is good.

AMD had to manufacture a lot of Zen 3 CCDs for their EPYC customers. This is just AMD getting rid of excess dies. AMD has to find creative ways to get people to buy Zen 3 because Zen 4 has gotten cheaper and Zen 5 will be pushing prices down further. Intel doesn’t have the opportunity to do this because their Xeons use different dies.

@laurelsporter4569 22 күн бұрын
@@dex6316 True, but they also have a unique advantage, right now, that I have never seen before. DDR4 is still popular, as people upgrade older hardware. Companies are actually out there recycling old RAM ICs to put on their "new" DIMMs, keeping the supply high, and prices much lower than DDR5, even today (also, for many users, USB, PCIe, GbE/Wifi6, almost any new SSD, and almost any 4C8T+ CPU, are fast enough for their needs).

Something I like about AMD compared to other competitors is that their pricing has basically always remained consistent and fair. The 7000 series wasn't great specifically because it forced you to use ddr5 even with only a minor 1% increase in performance in SOME games, but other than that it's been great. 7900 XTX price is great for the performance. As a long time user, I've come to fall in love with this GPU for affordability, and now with the new drivers, better efficiency. Making the mid and low range even more accessible is something AMD has always been king about, especially in the CPU department. Not only are their old GPU's getting heaps of more performance with their wine aged drivers (5700 XT 6700 XT 6800 XT) but their prices are consistently dropping nowadays, and their new cpu's being even more powerful and equally if not more affordable than the current last gen cpu's available. Intel has never done this in the modern day, and Nvidia GPU prices continue to rise. In an age where computers are becoming more expensive and less friendly to consumers in pricing, AMD has been, and probably will always be the company who delivers to those who can't afford premium. This is what I love about AMD.

Many B550 boards are upgraded X570 boards. It's a bit awkward to call one or the other top of the line as a result. For example I chose the B550-XE STRIX so I could have support for up to 5x PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, Thunderbolt/USB 4, WiFi 6, and an Intel 2.5 Gigabit LAN. The Ethernet/WiFI eventually trickled down to a couple of newer X570 boards. The B550-XE STRIX is an updated X570 B550-E STRIX with the same VRM as the X570 Crosshair Dark Hero. X570S is the Second-Gen X570 which is now the top of the line as they've been further updated.

@aminy23
@aminy23 22 күн бұрын
@@Spartan536 Which is consistent with my comment. The ROG Crosshair VII Hero has dual network controllers with a Realtek 2.5 Gigabit LAN and Intel 1 Gigabit. This is a compromise choice of Intel quality OR 2.5 Gigabits speed, but not both. There's also no onboard Wi-Fi. With B550 boards like the B550-F, B550-E, and B550-XE you can have dual network controllers with all the above simultaneously. You get Intel WiFi 6 and Intel 2.5 Gigabit. Later II versions of the board downgraded it to MediaTek WiFi. Your board does not and cannot be upgraded to support Thunderbolt or USB 4. With the B550-XE STRIX I get support for up to 5x PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs as it includes a riser, as well as a 6th at PCIe 3.0. You get support for 3 PCIe 3.0 M.2s. A big part of this was that X570 was rushed to market in 2019 to launch with Ryzen 3000. As a result it was expensive and produced lots of heat requiring a chipset fan. B550 was delayed and came out 2020. As a result many motherboard manufacturers took X570 boards designs and updated them to use B550 along with other 2020 updates like WiFi 6, Intel 2.5 Gigabit LAN, Thunderbolt/USB 4 headers, etc. X570 was supposed to be better, but newer is also better. A motherboard is much like a car where many of the same components are shared, but others are swapped out to make variants. A car could have cloth seats or leather, V6 or V8, cheap radio or premium sound, different colors, etc - but the same basic structure. The Crosshair VIII Hero is known for having a good VRM with 16 stages that are each 60 Amps. The Dark Hero upgraded it to 16 x 90 Amps which the B550-XE inherited.

They switched places. AMD Used to be cheap CPUs with more cores but lacked the single thread performance to really excel in gaming like Intel did. Once AMD ditched their Global Foundries and switched to TSMC for Ryzen 3000 - then they improved drastically and ended up with premium chips. X3D gave them the gaming advantage as well. Intel now makes cheaper CPUs and often have a workstation advantage which AMD CPUs with more cores used to have. A 12 core 12700KF and a 6 core Ryzen 7600 are both about the same price currently for example. Now Intel has 24 core CPUs which can peak at 6.2 Ghz. AMD is holding us back with $300 6 core CPUs. Now AMD is probably going to have to think twice about whether to price the 7600X at $299 or $200-$250.
