How is it, despite the extra cores, that the 16 core runs cooler? Is it something about physical layout or is it something with the power tables being tighter to make the thermals easier to control? @caspermadsen9074
@caspermadsen9074 3 жыл бұрын
From what I can gather from the reviews I have seen, it actually seems like the RTX 3090 is the bottleneck for the 5900X, as it pulls even further ahead of the 10900K, when lowering graphical settings. That should mean, that at 1440p, the performance will be even more GPU limited, and the performance of the 5900X and the 10900K, should be closer to each other, maybe even the same. The 3700X will likely bottleneck the 6800XT to some degree, but I still think it will be a good pairing, though a 5000-series would give you more frames.
@Logical
@Logical 3 жыл бұрын
@@caspermadsen9074 I'm sorry but the first part makes no sense or maybe I'm not understanding it right. In low resolutions the CPU is the limiting factor, that's why most reviews focus on 1080p or even 1080p medium- low quality, to make sure the CPU is the limiting factor. Moving to 1440p usually makes the GPU the limiting factor indeed, but with these high end CPUs and GPUs I'm curious how much and where the borders are. At what point will the CPU be the limiting factor on 1440p with these high end GPUs. I'm not interested in guessing, but hard facts. My guess is the same, that the 3700x might bottleneck a 6800XT slightly on 1440p, but I don't know for sure and definitely don't know by how much. There is also the case of latency and SAM, so it's not that straight forward anymore, at least it's worth investigating.

I've got a question, genuinely interested to understand. How come you got only 272 fps in F1 2020 at 1080p while GN got 346 fps, also in 1080p? Likewise, GN's 5900x beat his 10900k result in F1 at 1080p by 20 fps or so.

While it is quite a margin which this may not explain, it might come down to memory speed and timings. I just bounced around a few reviews and it has been mentioned that Zen 3 is as sensitive to memory speed, if not more so, as the previous generation Ryzens

Just watched the Gamers Nexus Review, and AMD crushed Intel in games. On Hardware Unboxed, AMD is on par? There are many more where AMD crushed Intel or is on par. What causes these significant differences? RAM and/or fclock settings?

Probably mainly due to game selection. In some games, it trades blows, in others, it crushes Intel, and sometimes it's slightly slower (like in RDR 2).

HUB uses Ultra/higher settings, GN uses lower settings to push more frames = higher CPU load.

I think one big difference is that GN keeps Intel at base boosting spec, so the CPU boosts only for a short period, while HUB keeps it at the more common default option, which lets the CPU boost as much as it wants, that can be seen when looking at power draw where on HUB the Intel CPUs often draw more power than on GN when compared to AMD ones.

Thanks for this series of highly enlightening reviews. I hope you will give us a new round of this when the new Radeon hits the shelves, seeing what actual gains we get through Smart Access. I was actually planning to ask that question on Patreon: What reasons do we have to buy an Intel CPU now? The answer which you gave towards the end of this vid was accepted: none. What AMD has delivered now is just incredibly much fun to see. It is as it was around the 486 era, as well as a decade ago. But a leap like this? Genuinely surprising and nothing but good news for us consumers.

June 2022. I was able to get the 5900x to reach on average 187fps on Shadow of the Tomb Raider,same settings as in the video, Ultra at 1080p. Funny thing is I did that by lowering the voltage only. At stock it was running to hot and my rx 6800xt wasn't even getting to 70% usage at times. Running Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1440p max settings was getting me like 120 fps, immediately after lowering the voltage I am getting on average 154 fps. I just wonder if this is normal. To be honest my pc case doesn't help much. It is nice looking but horrible for airflow,even with a 240mm water cooler radiator,3 exhaust fans and 3 intake front fan was getting the 5900x to 90c degrees all the time when playing games. the cpu was basically holding back the gpu. Should I assume is the cooler I have the culprit? I can't get the cpu pass 4.0 Ghz without reaching 93c degrees in seconds.

lol, i see all these posts or thumbnails on how "intel is done". Without recognizing that you need a real-life benchmark before you can compare. YOU do realize, that this 1st round of next gen line is usually not the path to upgrade YET, Linus made a good point on that. Cause the next line of hardware is right around the corner? You do realize that Intel next line up is going to be faster vs the current 5xxx series? Or even by AMD. I am glad that AMD can set the standards, but that doesn't mean the other side will just sit there and not take back their market shares.
