Our review of the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU is already live, and now we're moving on to the 12C/24T AMD R9 5900X. This follows the AMD R9 3900X launch and somewhat displaces the 3950X, despite the latter having a 4-core/8-thread advantage. The AMD R9 5900X most directly competes with Intel's i9-10900K in price, or AMD's own previous R9 3900X. The 5950X is mostly reserved or sensible for workstation PC builds, while the 5900X splits the middle between a true workstation-class CPU and a high-end gaming-class CPU. Today, we'll be testing gaming performance, overclocking performance, showing the best CPUs for gaming in 2020 (so far, again), the best workstation CPUs for Photoshop, 3D art, compression, and more, and testing power consumption. Our AMD R5 5600X review and benchmarks are coming soon, as are our AMD R7 5800X review and benchmarks.

@@informitas0117 Because in productivity, the 5900x not only smashes the 10900k in everything now (even the Adobe suite), but also in gaming, where the 5900x is a few percent faster than the 10900k, save for RDR2. Yeah. I think everyone already acknowledged that 5800x and 5600x are going to be the best CPUs for gaming... Yet most of the reviewers chose to review top part CPUs like 5900x and 5950x which are completely irrelevant for gamer folks... 5950x is 30 percent faster in v ray... yada yada... in monkey head render test... yada yada ... 7 zip compression yada yada yada... Lol dude like we already knew it would be faster in production work benchmarks, who the f k cares... Professionals and production workers would just buy higher core count anyway, this is absolutely pointless and a waste of time... Just show us benchmarks for games for 5600x 5800x and 5900x . This is the most crucial part of the information that absolutely majority of reviewers seem not to get... For me personally trying to decide between 5600X and 5800X ,will probably go for 5800X ... And seeing that the majority of reviewers focused on the higher end skews is extremely frustrating, since no gamer should be buying them anyway... Still waiting for GN 5800X review ,seems like I will be getting it for gaming.

A suggestion for future content: Maybe you could choose the axis end values and number of splits so they would result at splits at even 100, 50, 25, etc.? It's really hard to decipher the graphs when the y axis has values like 4913, 4975 and 5048 (from splitting the delta of 500 from 4600 to 5100 in 8 parts), instead of 4900, 4950, 5000, 5050 (from splitting delta of 500 in 10 parts). Having only the even 100s listed, but additional splits at 50 in between (without values) would be ideal to avoid clutter.

To add on the bandwagon of criticism... They didn't include competitive games on the charts which many millions of gamers live by ... Perhaps it is not important to including MOBA like games, but FPS style competitive games where higher frame rates count are important, and specifically CS:GO ... Which apparently AMD has got the biggest lead at there up to %50 IPC uplift according to some reviewers ,unfortunately all of the bigger reviewers completely skipped it including GN (which infuriates me)... This is absolutely a huge deal, and will mean that in the long term, millions of dollars and sponsorships will be moving towards AMD ... as well as millions of gamers that are trying to get the competitive advantage in competitive games will be switching to AMD also... This is a much bigger deal than getting a few more or less frames on a seasonal game like RDR2 for example...

@@ZuppaD.Cipolle I do. Average FPS on the 10900k and RTX 3080 is between 300 and 360 ,then there's such thing as 0.1fps lows for when you get frame dips, which are as important for smoother gameplay as just higher frames. Monitor manufacturers will not go into higher Hertz unless they see a niche in the market...So we need games to start hitting those frames to get higher refresh rate monitors...It's been suggested by blurbusters that 1k hz is the ideal sweet spot for motion clarity, beyond that, it still improves it but will be getting diminishing returns ... So 1k FPS and no dips in FPS is the target that we should be aiming at for competitive games.

@jubuttib
@jubuttib 3 жыл бұрын
It's not really the inherent performance increase gen over gen, it's more the performance increase against the competition. If your opponent is selling their gear at a certain price, and you're matching or slightly beating them in one of the two main arenas, and significantly beating them in the other, going a bit over them in pricing is expected. The 3000-series just didn't have the gaming performance of Intel, so they were more careful, while still justifying equal cost with way better multitasking and productivity performance. Now you're not losing on any front by going AMD. And if you want to match 10900K performance wise in both gaming and productivity, it seems the 5800X is right there, and is significantly cheaper. =)

Depending on the performance of the 6800, 6800XT or 6900XT, then they still may be the better option depending on how they compare to the 3090 (rendering workloads, raytracing etc). @@GamersNexus so glad I have my friend pre buying my pc, 3800x, 32gb (can only run at 2933 due to the motherboard) Asus x370 prime pro, 1tb ssd (Toshiba xg3) at least this will pay approx £1000 towards a 5800x system I had a 1800x installed originally(it wasn't the best cpu as I had to all core turbo overclock to 3.8ghz to just get rid of the hitching/stuttering hard to explain over text) , still actually own it and it's inside the plastic tray the 3800x came in, it's worth less then £100 now lol, amd cpus really don't hold their money, but any Intel cpu with the word i7 in it is model are over £150-300 (it can be a 8th gen cpu or a 2nd gen all super overpriced) This will be my 5 year pc this time (wait for the dust to settle to find out best optimal motherboard for cpu and ram) 5800x, x570 motherboard (already own 2x16gb g.skill neo 3600 cl16 kit) 2tb SSD, unsure in gpu yet case, corsair 750w psu probably and maybe a 4TB hdd for system image backup (but I have 2 nas main and pull rsync backup nas so might not bother with local backup storage) I see a lot of content creators who only rely on one local Nas be Raid5 sometimes RAID6 and at least 2 youtubers who have gotten them self's stuck or angry at said nas company (when it was there fault for not having a second unit to backup the first one) when it failed or pool crashed and lost a lot of stuff, sometimes when I try to explain to people raid is not a backup all they hear is it can survive 1 or 2 disks failure so its a backup lol

@@GamersNexus Not sure if it's an issue with my settings or the way amazon does links but your link and directly searching on amazon does not net the pages for the 5000 series chips. Pauls hardware links however do work even if they are out of stock anyway.

running 2 blenders one in CPU going forward and one in GPU going backwards!! wow I'm surprised I never thought of that. Granted blender is a nightmare on my i7-2600 + geforce 780. I can't wait to get my 5900x and 3090.

stock seems pretty bad.. headed to the store as everything is in-store pick-up and they were sold out before I got there :/ with no pre-orders or anything I guess I should have lined up but everyone was saying stock should be good.

I saw a lot of stock for the 5600 and 5800 but the Ryzen 9's were almost non-existent. The majority of stores in Canada had no units at all, and if they had any they had a single CPU.

I bought one and got info about delivery by 10-16.11.2020. Few minutes later it updated to 20-30.12. So stocks are definitely NOT good. We will see if they are worse than nvidia's

I know you're swamped for videos and work but I would love to see a workstation CPU comparison while hardware accelerating on the GPU to as that is the main way to do workstation tasks and would like to see if CPU even means anything while offloading to the GPU.

I'd like to see some kind of memory+cache tuned OC comparison of 5600x 5800x 10600K and 10700K, focusing on lows and frametime consistency. Zen 3 seems to perform quite variably with inflated averages due to boosting, but not always good lows.

Speaking of something Semi, their reported earnings from Semi Custom SoC solution of the currently awaited consoles is, huh not a joke too lol, but well AMD's the large one in the console SoC department so... Also I can't imagine i'd get a very engaging gaming system with 1TB SSD (because boi it's one of those good stuffs too other than the console's SoC performance) in a Xbox Series X or PS5 for a price of less than the 3950X's at release back then, just nice, big NICE. RDNA and Zen really working out for the rest of the x86 tech industry On the PC side, the way Intel had the upper hand IPC against Zen 2 with a heckin (still) 14nm process, that's a tough one from Intel, now as we all have seen AMD's another 7nm process move, finally AMD got the lead over Intel's tough 14nm process, but hey that 14nm toughness was pretty hot, talking about 5900X (or 3900X comparably back then) against 10900K in temps
