Beetlejuice is a 1988 American fantasy horror comedy film directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Michael McDowell and Warren Skaaren based on a story by McDowell and Larry Wilson. The film stars Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton as the title character. The first installment of the Beetlejuice franchise, the plot revolves around a recently deceased couple. As ghosts, they are not allowed to leave their house. They contact Betelgeuse,[a] a charismatic "bio-exorcist" from the Netherworld, to scare the home's new inhabitants away.

Love your hair today :) My favorite fun fact for this movie is the line "Nice Fuckin' model!": it's unscripted and aimed at the prop department; the tree wasn't supposed to fall over ;) The director loved it.

Fun facts (according to ScreenRant): The snake scene was originally filmed before Michael Keaton was hired, and didn't look like him at all. They later did some re-shoots with a snake that looked like Betelgeuse at the request of studio execs. Catherine O'Hara and production designer Bo Welch met on the Beetlejuice set. Welch told Uproxx the story of how the relationship happened: "Towards the end of the movie Tim [Burton] told me, we were shooting in Vermont, 'You should ask Catherine out.' And I said, 'What?' And he said, 'Yeah, you should ask her out.' It didn't even occur to me that I was even supposed to talk to actors." "But since Tim told me to I did and then we dated and we're married and here we are today," he said. O'Hara and Welch were married in 1992. In 1990, Burton hired Jonathan Gems to write Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. The movie would've followed the Deetz family as they moved to Hawaii and then discovered their company was built on ancient burial grounds. Betelgeuse would be the hero and save the day by winning a surfing contest. Yes, we're being completely serious about this plot.

The story is similar to a old 1937 film Topper. Husband and wife George and Marion get in a car wreck, they wake up from the accident as ghosts. It had three films and a TV series. Beetlejuice follows the TV series a bit closer, with the uptight banker Topper and his wife buying the house of the dead couple. They don't have a daughter, but the rich guy is the one that sees the ghosts. I remember enjoying some of the Beetlejuice cartoons, but became less interested when episodes focused more on the side characters like the exercising skeleton, and the tap-dancing spider.

The skinny blonde guy during the shrimp 🍤 scene , if I'm not mistaken is Dick Cavette. He had his own show during late 60' & early 70's. He interviewed Jimi Hendrix after Woodstock. Among other stars and musicians. That's if it is him 🤔

You'll probably find most of this as you do you research: The story was originally written to be much darker and was written with Vegas performer Sammy Davis Jr. in mind as Betelgeuse. Ve Neil won the Academy Award for best makeup and has continued to win or be nominated for other films. Keaton improvised most if not all of his lines. There was a second ending filmed for Beetlejuice on the waiting room couch. Old Bill the rambling Barber from the beginning of the movie, passes away at some time. He ends up where the witchdoctor is on the couch and starts rambling away. Beetlejuice sees his number and scream/spins his head off. The FX in this film were practical and stop motion. One of my favorites was "Adams talking head". They made a cutout board, painted like the desk and Alec Baldwin sat behind it an placed his head over the top. Steady camera and lighting made it blend into the background. The crew called them "Cheap Haunted House Gags". Again, lighting was used to hide the puppeteers under the table for the shrimp cups. The new film coming out brings back the stop motion, puppets and the "Gags" to keep the feel of the original.

About 12 years ago or so, the Museum of Modern Art in NY did a large Tim Burton universe immersive experience and I went to it. It was amazing!!!

The music is by Danny Elfman.He composed the Simpson's theme for one. He does all of Burton's movies as far as I know. In "Nightmare before Christmas" he did all of the singing for johnny Depp's character and was the front man and main writer for the band 'Oingo Boingo".

There’s been some experiences that were inspired by this movie: - A bar in Hollywood called Beetle House. - A haunted house at Universal Studios Florida for their Halloween Horror Nights in 2021. It’s only a matter of time before they do an immersive experience because I can easily see that working because this movie is so vast to expand upon. Edit: 34:20 Pretty interesting considering that Jim Carrey was one of the many choices for Tim Burton’s Willy Wonka.

This was followed by a short lived animated series of the same name. The intro music always reminds me of the show "Tales from the Crypt" for some odd reason. My favorite Tim Burton film is "Big Fish" it's one of the few that is both nothing like any other movie he's done, and at the same time perfectly Tim Burton. I don't know how else to explain it.

Alice in Wonderland is from Burton’s…um…”off years.” Pee-Wee, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Nightmare Before Xmas, Ed Wood, and Mars Attacks! are essential Burton. I have a soft spot for his Charlie & The Chocolate Factory…but it’s mostly due to the Elfman music.

I always considered Planet of the Apes the start of his decline but I do think that movie has some value with regard to the performances and the use of makeup. Big Fish is great. Sweeney Todd is fantastic. Charlie and Alices have their plusses but it wasn’t until Wednesday that I really felt he was back so I’m optimistic that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be good. 🤞

I think the entire appeal of it like Ghostbusters say is how unique it is. I wonder if it will be able to generate the same interest via a sequel. My understanding is the Beetlejuice franchise, a cartoon and merch I am sure did not do that poorly but it did not do that well either and mainly because it had problems capturing the uniqueness of this film.

Yep, I've never been scared of spiders. One fact that might help arachnophobes to know is that spiders and crabs are very closely related. Spiders are kind of soft-shelled land crabs with the ability to climb. They just go about eating some of the nuisance insects and they always steer clear of people. Now, the highly venomous spiders, it's healthy to fear their bite. You just have to remember, they don't live to bite you. They use their bite for 2 reasons, catching prey and self defense.

How good is this? Early Tim Burton, leaves Disney as an animator, and pretty much gets this. Keaton had a few movies before this as the star, but nothing huge. Mr Mom, the Japanese car guy Gung Ho, Johnny Dangerously was a off center comedy, but he really shines in a movie called, night shift! Burton saw him in that and knew, he had the guy who could ad-lib! Most of what he does in this movie, he just purely ad-libbed! Next year, they teamed up for the best, Batman!!

Good reaction Amelia. Beetlejuice is my favorite Tim Burton movie. But of his others, I would say Ed Wood. Highly recommend it. And once you've watched that, you can take on one of the worst movies ever made, Plan 9 From Outer Space. It's the reason the phrase "so bad it's good" even exists.

I have always been very submissive so I wouldn't mind being a woman in any time period! All I need is to have my needs taken care of. I learned from mother & grandmother that females do all of the cooking & cleaning and caring for the family. I took over the job when my mother got sick when I was 9. She passed when I was 14 so I kept taking care of dad and my 4 brothers and our pets. I also hosted all the sports parties and get togethers for all the boys and men that came to our house. After I got my own house I continued taking care of everything and everyone at my house as well as the need to fill it with my own puppy and kitten! I even have service uniforms to wear to make the men happy to see a woman in the roles of whatever uniform I wear! Every one of the men seem to ENJOY when I wear any of my 3 French Maid uniforms! 👍👍😉😉👱‍♀👱‍♀👗👗👠👠❤❤

@@betelman She mentioned being a woman in that time period!! That is the SUBJECT She and I talked about. The fact that it seemed to have gone over your head doesn't matter to me! I am sure she got my point as well as all of the boys and men that came to my house when I was a girl through the time since I became a woman until now as well as the future men that will come to my house! So IMHOSTFU!!
