I think that's why it's a big deal for a kpop artist to win 1st place in a music show because that is the first step to gaining media attention

True, koreans only follow what's mainstream and care about the number of wins only.

That's exactly what happened to bts, they both won on American TV and all of a sudden they are getting proper recognition. I see the similarities to much. When I saw alexa win after those nerve-racking weeks of voting and watching her perform wonderland and so many Americans who didn't know who she was and us ai troopers defending her on her yt videos it makes us so happy that she won. I told myself she is going to gain so much respect now in sk and will probably have the same luck that bts was able to get with finally getting the attention of the sk public because we all know as kpop fans how much the knetizens tend to ignore debuts most of the time if they aren't from sm, jyp and yg. Also if they are just a fan of on artist only as well. It also didn't help that she is technically a foreigner and half korean to boot. It will be interesting to see how much attention she will be getting when she gets back to sk after the bbmas and also see the similarities of her getting attention vs how it went with bts gained more popularity especially being treated badly for not being part of the big 3 back in the day.

@@thekeytomyheart_ These days, idols can dominate media outlets even before they debut, as early as when journalists out there who catch wind of anyone who's in the final running to debut in the next Big 3 group. One of the sad things as a result of using wins as a metric of success is that agencies can use it as an excuse in how they treat their artists, regardless of how good and substantial their music is. If the group isn't winning, then they'll start to invest less and less into their artist(s). Then the worst of the agencies will probably keep their artists trapped for the remainder of their contract lengths instead of terminating.

But is Korea showing support for her now? I haven't seen many Korean comments on videos. And granted, I can't read it, but the comments people are translating are all like "Why should we care, she's American" or "why would we care about a show no one knows in our country." Blah blah... although this was when she was announced as a finalist before winning. I hope her BBMA performance and the radio actually playing her song helps her get a stronger fan base in Korea or known by the general public. She deserves it. And it should be possible if her company does the PR right... they didn't seem to be investing as much in her lately before this. 😿
