The looks of Diners gives off a very cosy and nostalgic feel. I hope get to eat breakfast in one soon. Greetings from the Philippines.

I love diners. There's just something about them that puts me in a good mood, between the relaxed atmosphere, big portions classic american food, sitting in a booth, drinking coffee out of a mug and having it topped off, hearing the sound of the plates and silverware being set or cleared...i could go on. A restaurant is a restaurant but a diner is divine

I feel the same way. I go to Denny's or IHOP sometimes after work but it's just not the same as those old school, Ma & Pop's diners. Whenever I take a road trip I always try to stop at different little, small town diners though. I like the look and feel of them (like going back in time), and the food is pretty damn good too usually lol

Same here. Whenever I am traveling on business, always try to go to mom and pop diners and max out my expense account.

Grew up on diners and drive ins and hot rods. It was in the 80s but my uncle was a connoisseur of 50s/60s culture. May he rest in peace. Love this stuff. The doo wop sound, black and white, and diners & drive ins.

This is a good post. A scene from an American diner: "I'll be back Mo, a regular I would chat with at the counter, as I turned to my waitress, "how much do I owe Lidia!?" HEY LIDIA can't you chew, serve your diners and write my check simultaneously? "NO, give me $4.25 Dick." "Here's a Lincoln, Lidia keep the change." Only in a diner, classic Americana culture.

Are the prices in Diners generally more expensive than on regular chain restaurants?

This is not totally accurate. Only in the South prior to desegregation would this be true. Both whites and backs have been sharing the same counter space in restaurants long before the first diners came out in the North. Even MLK Jr. himself marveled at this fact in Boston while at Harvard and through out his time spent in the North. One can actually find photographs in the American diner Museum of African-Americans, Asian Americans and second generation Caucasian Americans all dining at the same counter together. Certainly the “lunch counter” has been seen as a traditional benchmark of segregation in the South and for good reason but let’s not lump them all together as in other parts of America they have always been a great symbol of equality.
