I’ve gone to an agt filming. All the audience reaction is faked. They tell us to boo or cheer and record that. Or they’ll tell us to act disgusted or shocked. They’ll pair reactions with acts that weren’t even filmed with the same audience. They’ll also have people record their acts twice because of filming issues. I think the judges may or may not be briefed of whether or not to take an act seriously too. They exit and come back or have people talk to them. Also Simon takes a bunch of snack breaks to eat carrots and celery??? It’s all super weird and fake

I agree you were done dirty, but I also realized a long time ago that actual talent doesn't make it far on these shows. For example, most magicians I've seen on there just couldn't cut it in actual magician circles, so they tried their luck impressing laymen. At the end of the day it seems only singers really get anywhere on so called talent shows, which is bull because there are already plenty of singing centered shows.

Musicians have a hard time to show their real talent in the show, unless you play Flight of the Bumblebee, at 300bpm. Always works, trust me.

Let's be real: they picked this one BECAUSE it would make for a good buzzer story. If they wanted you to have any kind of a successful act on the show, Linda was the best bet. Related: did we get an early bass drummer reveal, or has Chicken Head just gone deeper?

For AGT, it's much better to do something that _looks_ impressive, rather than doing something that takes actual talent.

I feel like if you do anything with glow in the dark and drums, they always eat that stuff up. Get in some sort of glow in the dark suit, make your sticks and drums glow somehow, and bosh, youre in.

This chicken suit has infected its way into my actual nightmares! Last night I had a nightmare that I was going to my college for alumni weekend and the alums were putting on recital. I was second to perform after the choir. I was going to do a solo piece with piano accompaniment in a chicken costume, but i wasn’t prepped at all. I was trying to tell my former professor that I wasn’t ready to go because I don’t have a chicken costume or my music and I haven’t rehearsed with my accompanist! That’s when I woke up.

Hey man, Bill from Calderwood Percussion here. We do all kinds of custom percussion, but mostly historical reproductions and other rope tension stuff. I'm pretty sure I figured out how to make a set of rope tension quads (or possibly quints; the spock would be the most difficult), and I really want an excuse to actually build them. I dunno if that's gonna get you anywhere with AGT, but I figured if anybody would wanna try something crazy like that, it would probably be you :) I'd love to talk to you about it if your'e interested. The one thing that comes to mind that might “impress” the judges is some type of Cavaliers spinning tenors or upside down playing ensemble. But it’s pretty much a crap shoot.

Eric, so glad you did this video. They did you so dirty I can’t believe I fell for it. Looked like they buzzed you before you even got to the good stuff but in reality, they wouldn’t know good stuff if it hit them in their clucker! You remind me of like every corps mate I ever marched with (Scouts bass 94-96) all rolled into one person so I love watching your videos and was pumped to see my comment made this video!!! So thanks for that! Your attitude is genuinely inspiring and I love all your positivity in life, in drumming, and for the marines. Keep up the great work!

The reason you were cut; it's all for TV. They made you do a ridiculous act, cut out the better parts, made you look bad in general, all so they could have that "one guy with the funny bad act".

I like that you have a good attutude about it... that even though it was unfair that they cut out the cooler parts of the act, and you got cut, that you're choosing to not be mad about it... I look forward to seeing your act next time!

I think you could find a way to make the act super out there like the show wants, but not just for goofy purposes so you could showcase your skill and have a chance. The show either wants something they can frame as amazing to the audience or amazingly bad, so it's just finding a way to appeal to them. Some kind of insane setup like 100 drums, or a music and style choice that resonates with people like Malik.

It was either this, or making everyone give you a standing ovation for being in the military, but that's not popular right now.

I feel like when they disrespected and boo'd Eric, they disrespected and Boo'd the Marine Corp as a whole... thats fucked up.

I think itd be very cool if for next year Eric would make his show be a drumming and light show. The show could be all in dark and he could set up every drum to light up every time he hits hit.

heres an idea. try to audition with like a serious disney villain stizz. like imagine the vibe in jonathan youngs cover of the oogie boogie song, but for drumms. really evil and badass and edgy as fuck, with like a lot of the colorcombination of red and black and an awesome show. (which might be a bit much, but look what the power of editing was able to do here, im sure it can do the reverse for your next act)

Next year you should definitely add some pyrotechnics.

I had a friend go on AGT in a professional trombone quarter and the same exact thing happened. They went on there and rocked the house, the judges were like "nah you guys suck" but none of them reacted so they just left the entire segment out of the show.

Hey, that's my comment at 4:01! Glad you gave us the "rest of the story". As a former HS marching band drummer (snare and tenors), I have ALWAYS wanted to see a drumline play with a rock/metal band....preferably something a little more in the progressive rock/metal genre to introduce some crazy odd time signatures (a little 19/16 anyone?). While you could certainly find a band that plays original music... I think you would be better off if the band is doing covers... I'm thinking Rush, Dream Theater, Kansas, Zeppelin, Floyd, etc... (maybe even throw in some "movie themes"... Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ET, etc.)...and you write some crazy drumline parts to support the music... of course with some needed drum breaks/solos. You could even have some visuals to add another layer of entertainment... like instead of Luke Skywalker having his typical lightsaber... his drum sticks are mini sabers... and he can do "tenor sweeps" as well as duel with Darth Vader or deflect laser blasts! The options are endless! Whatever it is... NO CHICKEN COSTUME!

AGT first chose the chicken performance, then literally said it's too bad. he is literally the best in the whole entire country lol.

Firstly, congratulations for even having the courage to go on there knowing this would most likely happen. So I have an idea for you for next year. You should just do what you do on KZfaq with multicams but with a back drop and an indoor mat on the videos that matches the color of their stage. Write a really tasteful indoor show with you on all instruments in pit and battery. The real you will have a mega tenor solo somewhere in the middle and the whole indoor show will revolve around that. Also see if someone can sew you a legit awesome indoor uniform with a subtle chicken emblem on the corner of the chest as a nod to the rubber chicken of old, you know... For nostalgia.

They don't look at talent, the show name should be change to America's Got Popularity.

You should come up with some kind of act with stick tricks and a soundtrack to play to. Maybe add lighting effects somehow as well with multiple drums. Kind of like the Ralph Nader videos, but make it your own.

Please please please do something dynamic that grooves, and fancy lights and huge spectacular drum props and stuff.. Or it would be pretty slick if you had holograms or a green screen like how you edit yourself playing multiple drums for youtube videos. Something like Kenichi Ebina's performances would go over well, and fits your personal youtube video style

I'm pretty sure that the judges were all told when they signed their contracts: "if they don't sing or have a tragic backstory, they don't count." People can do the most amazing, incredible, never-before-seen things on that show, but if one of those other two crtieria are not met, they don't count.

You should do a marching act you marching quads with some other theatrics going on.

Well, over the last probably 2.5~3 years we all learned, that TV is the most powerful weapon of all. Sometimes they don't even bother to edit, they just make something up. xD

I know you are a fan of Blast. My brother played the timbale duet in Marimba Spiritual. If you watch the tape, a cymbal breaks and you can see how it appears and disappears through the song. PBS filmed for a week and edited it together. So yeah, it is strange. You are a classy Marine, thank you for your service and your channel.

That looked really cool. It's a shame they edited all that out. I used to play the bongo drums in various school talent shows over the years and I submitted videos online to AGT this year and last year and they didn't pick me so it's impressive just to even make the show.
