tasty, I can agree with, but nutritious is a bit more questionable. Also yes, most of these are still available. I have a few in my pantry right now. Liver and onions is nutritious, but I wouldn't say Vienna sausages, ambrosia salad, nor that canned ham are. All of those are mostly sugar, salt, and preservatives. I mean, you could totally survive on it for a while, but you won't be very healthy.

There’s a lot of stuff on this list of things that are gone that we don’t want back that are still actually very readily available. Instant coffee and hamburger helper are just two examples that popped mine. People still eat liver and onions. You can still find it on quite a few Restaurants. Although maybe more of a southern thing. Which if liver and onions completely disappeared I would be OK with that lol I just had hamburger helper the other night. That’s actually good. Despite what they tell you. It’s not bad, especially if you get the right flavors. The sausages are another one of those things that are still very popular and big sellers. That and potted meat. Although people make fun of potted meat sometimes. It’s still popularity is undeniable. You get a can of Vienna sausages and some crackers. Nice little snack. Same way with potted meat. Although I think pot meat might be an acquired taste. I grew up eating it as a kid. We used to spread it on crackers. Very good stuff.

One of the core characters in the TV series "Suits" drinks prune juice. The character is endearing but decidedly odd -- as evidenced by drinking prune juice in many episodes. I was born in 1961 so lived through this period. My mother was not a good cook. She was a great mom but would do things like cook canned spinach in a pot until it was almost grey and season it only with salt. Thankfully her mother regularly cooked for us. I agree with everything in this video other than dissing pineapple upside down cake. Yes, the 1970's version was absurdly sweet but it is still something I enjoy when I can find it (as a single person I can't justify making it).

This is the first I've heard of a Jello salad made with hot dogs, celery, etc. That must have been a regional thing. The Jello salad my mother always made in the 1970s consisted of slightly set up lemon or lime Jello, softened cream cheese, cottage cheese, and crushed pineapple mixed together and chilled until firm. My wife still makes both flavors this way, and they always disappear within a couple of days.

I enjoy Hamburger helper once in a while. If you can get them (and the beef) on sale then it's a pretty economical meal. Your can also jazz them up with some pretty cheap ingredients. I like to take the crunchy taco variety and add some diced jalapeños and black beans. That takes it from an okay meal to a really good one.

@ 17:12 So Americans expect full body taste and complex flavors from a coffee? That's quite a novelty (even for many Americans, I bet) 😉

I can handle liver and onions, as long as I have mustard with it. Mustard covers up a lot of that taste.

I love liver and onions! Ever need a quick pick me up, liver and onions will do it! Most of these foods are still available and eaten often. All except jello salads. Those need to NEVER come back! Prunes are delicious! They've never had any bad effects for me and i love them. Such a sweet snack!

I like can ham, jello with fruit, power milk was fine for cooking. I love Tang and space food sticks. TV dinners, fruit cocktail, especially with college cheese, Banquet boil-in bags were great. I loved the bbq beef best. Gotta love pinapple upside down cake, too.
