American Infrastructure in Cities: Skylines 2 | 5B1C Season 4 Episode 4
It's episode number 4 and my first episode in Season 4 of the 5B1C series! Make sure to check out the other builders in the series!
@Czardus, @Slay3K, @TeddyRadko, @canadianmooseplays, @CitiesByDiana, and guests!
5 builders 1 City Season 4 playlist - • Official 5B1C Season 4...
In this episode we build out quite a few different American styled infrastructure pieces! We put in some Michigan Left's, some Jersey Jughandles and our very own Diverging Diamond!
We also lay the groundwork for the extension of the downtown and place down a lot of the strong lines that should help support the grid but not make it too repetitive.
We also sneakily add some public transit to the American side of the map before the European side gets any.. very sneaky indeed!
Let me know your thoughts!
Enjoy,

Hey! Been a while, hope you're well :) I feel like the game is ready for a Let's Play series and some fun content, tough to get some tutorials out when the game is still being developed, but something casual to tie us over and get some content rolling again would be nice don'tcha think?? Enjoy this series in the meantime!

I've been waiting for you to get busy with a new series. I feel most folks are waiting until the game is in a more playable state.

I saw Michigan Left on the thumbnail and could not resist watching to see how you use them. I grew up around Detroit and didn't realize they were genuinely not seen outside of Michigan, with a few exceptions. I was back in MI over Christmas and actually told my niece how much I miss Michigan Lefts since moving to Cincinnati! Edit: Just got to the Michigan Left part. The main benefit is that it makes all left turns protected and moved off flow-through lanes. I think a better way to implement them in CS2 would be to make two parallel 3-lane (or 4-lane if you're feeling spicy) roads with a very wide median then put in a pair of U-turns on either side of intersections. For longer stretches, you can put in more U-turns. For an example of what I think is the best example of Michigan Lefts, check out M-59 (A.K.A. Hall Road) between I-94 and M-53 (A.K.A. Van Dyke Avenue/Freeway). West of that intersection actually turns into just a plain ol' highway.

We have Michigan lefts on US35 in Dayton Ohio. The side roads are not allowed to go left or straight. Turn right and u turn for both of those. What is strange is, left turns from 35 are signaled. Its pretty neat

This is hands down my favorite map and it's perfect for a North American and European style map. So cool to see builders working together. Great video!

I love the Michigan left. Personally, I think all diamond interchanges should block left turns and instead use Michigan lefts on either side of the diamond. It would make the diamond interchange a lot more free flowing. 👍🏻 Edit: Way too many roundabouts. Use Michigan left instead. And in the rare exception (singular 😜) you *have* to use it, call it a traffic circle! 😂

6:30 that second jughandle you added isn't being used, I think when you upgraded one of the roads to asymmetrical, it added back left turns on the road coming from the waterfront to the highway.

Love a good diverging diamond interchange...in CS2 anyway. irl, it depends, the only place i've encountered them really is in Tijuana and they work but driving there is NUTS lol

What the hell?! That bus route looks like one a first time player would make. twenty some stops just hanging out in the middle of nowhere along a roads that have nothing to stop for.

main benefit of Michigan left is only 2 traffic light cycles instead of 4 if you allow left turns at the intersection itself

roundabouts are becoming more common in America. I live in Wisconsin and there are multiple ones here now. I've also been through one diverging-diamond interchange as well here.

55:05 The reason it works is because the light only has two phases per cycle instead of three or four phases. Since no one is turning left, there's no "conflict" with traffic crossing over and you don't need to protect the left turn movement through the intersection. For instance if the small road wanted to turn left on to the large road, they would turn right, then make the U-turn, potentially never stopping at a red light, thus traffic remains flowing without stopping. Making a left from the main road, you'd pass the intersection, make your U-turn, then make the right turn onto the small road, again, potentially never seeing a red light. All while this is happening, the intersection is just pinging back and forth between the small road getting the green and the large road getting the green. This reduces the overall wait time for the intersection by about a minute (if you assume a normal protected left turn gets on average 30 seconds for both directions every cycle) every single time the light cycles. If you again assume it full cycles once every 3 minutes, over the span of a day that's 480 cycles, which also means you've saved 480 minutes (8 hours) of traffic sitting at a red light not getting where they need to go. Of course, times will vary, but you get the idea.

Gosh, if I didn't know you were from the Great White North, I certainly would now. Just in the first 10 minutes, we have reached "Eh"s-per-minute that make me believe you bleed maple syrup, and it makes the video quite entertaining for me.

Nobody likes it when you get a present and he/she tells you before you open it, what is in it. So why,, oh why, do we get to see in the first minute, what you are going to build?? A lot of builders do it nowadays. It ruins my fun to watch!
