You're reviews are opening up my eyes to food, I used to buy the most expensive but not anymore. I'd buy the American fries over any you've just sampled now, I much prefer to buy a 5lb bag of potatoes for around £1.15 and make my own, that works out much cheaper in the long run. You can get far more bang for your buck.

I know you had to do them in the oven for the review, but honestly Gaz, the McCain french fries cooked in the air fryer for about 15 minutes are spot on, as long as you eat them straight away as they cool off quick, try with burger sauce aswell, lovely! I'd probably choose the cheapies as I am a tight wad - BUT - I always spray mine - regardless of brand - with that butter flavoured frying oil and/or a flavoured olive oil depending on what we're eating with the chips and pre-season with spices and sometimes a sprinkling of gravy powder before cooking - probably adjust cooking time to higher/longer to get the crisp on - great review - thanks

Skinny chips get cold too quickly. Last time I went to Farm Foods was October last year (it's 26 miles away), I bought a big yellow bag of McCain 'Chips For FRYING' 1.2kg for £1.00. 97.6% potatoes and 2.4% sunflower oil. They say they're Thick cut. They crisped up perfectly whilst being fluffy in the middle. Proper instructions for both deep and air frying. I'm hoping they still do them next time I'm able to get there.

I get the Iceland Straight Cut Value Fry Chips for £1 for 1.5kg. These are produced in Belgium where some of the best chips in the world come from. Until I got the air fryer I pan-fried them in sunflower oil and they are really great chips. Recently I have found the Iceland crinkle cut chips (£1 for 1.25kg) work really well in the air fryer. But my favourite chips are home made, cut from fresh peeled potatoes, soaked for an hour in cold water to remove starch, patted dry, then fried in the air fryer.

The American GI¨s were not sure where they were ..................!!! (No wonder they had to invent the GPS System ..) They thought that they were in France, hence the name "French Fries" .................. They were actually in Belgium at the time .............................!! None of those fries are cooked well(not your fault Gaz) I can see the paleness of the fries from the video You simply can't do fries in an oven. Theyll either be undercooked and soft with raw potato inside with possible burnt ends or they be overcooked,hard and burnt with the potato inside simply gone. More crunchy fries than crispy. It might not be an healthy option but a deep fat frier is the only way to go.

@rickb36452 жыл бұрын
McCain being the most expensive Fries with the smallest amount of Potato content in the ingredients list... And at a ridiculous £2.99... Coupled with the fact their bags contain the least amount in weight too 1.4kg... They are i'm afraid taking the mickey... The £0.79 American Fries for 1.81kg are an absolute bargain mate... Like you said... Once they're put in a slice of Buttered Bread with some Tomato Ketchup on... They'll all pretty much taste the same... Also you could pimp up the Fries yourself too... Spray a little Garlic or Chilli infused Sunflower Oil on them prior to cooking... Or sprinkle a little Paprika or Schwartz Spices over them for a bit of an extra kick... Or in your case Gaz you could always use the American Chip Spice someone sent you as a gift a few months ago... You know me mate!... I'm all for pimping up ordinary tasting foods... 😋 McCain might be a market leader in the frozen Chip/Fries business... But they're obviously making huge profits as well... Just as shoppers are being squeezed hard by rapidly rising food prices... There's no way they can justify their high price compared to the cheap bag of American Fries shown in your review... Once again shoppers are paying extra just for the McCain brand name... You can't realistically justify the smallest bag in weight... With the smallest amount of Potato content listed in the ingredients... For the highest price... But some shoppers will still buy them... Thanks for the review Gaz... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺

Yes 👍 McCains are a Huge ripoff! £3 for 1 1/2 kilo of potatoes! Yes it’s just the name and the expensive adverts on the television that you pay for😳🤗 Good video buddy 🤩

The dearest ones have a few added ingredients to make them taste better and charge a lot more for less contents in the bag, but I would always buy the cheapest version even if they have to be cooked a little longer to get them to brown.

Have you tried the ALDI skin on fries, they say they're for the oven but if you stick them in the chip pan, they are so much better

The Farm Food ones use Palm oil which is considered bad for the environment by many people. Palm oil has been and continues to be a major driver of deforestation of some of the world's most biodiverse forests, destroying the habitat of already endangered species like the Orangutan, pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhino.
