I need to add a comment about swaying stadiums, the modern ones are actually designed to sway a bit and it is safer that way, it’s adding some “give”. So it swaying alone is not an indication of danger BUT if it was a badly built stadium it would also sway for the wrong reasons so I guess you’d never know 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If the stadium don't shake, with that much people jumping, you should be worried, because it will probably collapse. The enginners made it in sections not just for thermal expansion, but to disperse this massive load in ressonance. I'm brazilian, so I've been in match games since I was a little boy and it always shakes like that. When you are in the corridors below the stands, you can actually see all the structure shaking.

In most cases especially on the Balkans we like to chant aggresive stuff at the opponent because we like to fight each other outside the stadiums and have real passion for competing most of us don't even watch the game. Specifically on the Balkans our fathers in the 80s used to be like the Americans, but since democracy in the 90s we just started enjoying the beat downs between our rical gangs. Couldn't fight during socialist times as we were going to get locked up, but now we arrange ultras fights very often before or after the games and on the stadium we just get our mood prepared for fighting. Recently not many go to the stadiums though. The game got boring with so many media coverage and on the Balkans many now focus on sports betting and don't care to go to the stadiums anymore.

I think for me personally the reason why European and South American supporters are more vocal and passionate is because a lot of their clubs have been around for a hundred+ years. Something being around for the long makes it synonymous with the city, its culture and history. For most of Europe and South America their football team is a reflection of the fan base

Hello from Germany, thanks for the great video. I don't know if you saw the NFL game of Tampa Bay in Munich/Germany, but there the differences between German/European and American fans became very clear. The whole game was very loud, people were having a good time. The stadium in Frankfurt, where the stands move, is built that way on purpose. By the way, this is the second stadium where an NFL game will also be played in the future. Here is another list of European clubs in the video: 11:43 Borussia Dortmund (Germany), 12:50 1. FC Köln (Germany), 13:54 Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), 14:58 Northern Ireland National Team, 15:57 AC Milan (Italy), 16:53 France National Team, 17:26 Iceland National Team, 17:48 Aris Thessaloniki F. C. (Greece), 18:11 Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), 19:28 Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands), 20:09 Malmö FF (Sweden), 20:44 Paris Saint-Germain (France), 22:00 Romania National Team In Germany/Europe, fans often use very well-known songs and simply rewrite their lyrics. Examples: 11:43 Borussia Dortmund original song: Die Ärzte - Männer sind Schweine (men are pigs) new version: Abstiegskampf oder Pokale (relegation battle or trophies) 13:54 Eintracht Frankfurt original Song: Pippi Langstrumpf (Pippi Longstocking - swedish childrens novel) new version: Hey Eintracht Frankfurt

It's a little ironic that the term 'soccer' originated in the UK. Indeed when I was a wee lad in the 70's the word was used fairly frequently, and 'football' and 'soccer' were pretty much interchangeable. I don't know why people got the hump about it sometime between then and now.

@@robertstanley5555 Guessing you are middle class. The term Soccer was used by middle class Rugby fans who called the game of Rugby, football and the game of football, soccer. This is because Rugby's real name is Rugby football, so to show it as different they used the term soccer. When they said football, they meant Rugby and Football, they called soccer. As I said you are middle class if you used it. Football is a working man's game or at least started that way and Rugby Union was private school middle class bellends who played it. Against us tyranny's Bloody flag is raised! (repeat) In the countryside, do you hear The roaring of these fierce soldiers? They come right to our arms To slit the throats of our sons, our friends! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood Water our fields! This horde of slaves, traitors, plotting kings, What do they want? For whom these vile shackles, These long-prepared irons? (repeat) Frenchmen, for us, oh! what an insult! What emotions that must excite! It is us that they dare to consider Returning to ancient slavery! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood Water our fields! What! These foreign troops Would make laws in our home! What! These mercenary phalanxes Would bring down our proud warriors! (repeat) Good Lord! By chained hands Our brows would bend beneath the yoke! Vile despots would become The masters of our fate! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood Water our fields! Tremble, tyrants! and you, traitors, The disgrace of all groups, Tremble! Your parricidal plans Will finally pay the price! (repeat) Everyone is a soldier to fight you, If they fall, our young heros, France will make more, Ready to battle you! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood Water our fields! Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors, Bear or hold back your blows! Spare these sad victims, Regretfully arming against us. (repeat) But not these bloodthirsty despots, But not these accomplices of Bouillé, All of these animals who, without pity, Tear their mother's breast to pieces! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood Water our fields! Sacred love of France, Lead, support our avenging arms! Liberty, beloved Liberty, Fight with your defenders! (repeat) Under our flags, let victory Hasten to your manly tones! May your dying enemies See your triumph and our glory! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Let us march! Let us march! May impure blood Water our fields! We will enter the pit When our elders are no longer there; There, we will find their dust And the traces of their virtues. (repeat) Much less eager to outlive them Than to share their casket, We will have the sublime pride Of avenging them or following them!

I'm not sure about the US but in Europe every modern stadium is built to flex because the pummeling they receive from the fans is putting them through earthquake level stresses for hours on end on a daily basis. Fortunately it's 99% pure up-and-down force, which is a lot easier to build for than the random lateral movement of a quake. You'll find it's almost always the older rigid stadiums that give out under these forces. Either that or someone cheaped out on materials during construction.

This is based on decades of history. Most of these teams were formed in the late 19th/ early 20th century. You can’t get the level of feralness and passion with teams created in the last decade. And in international terms, Europe has so many top teams that are all close neighbours that it leads to real (sporting and occasionally actual) aggression and antipathy. The Netherlands vs Germany or France vs Italy or Portugal vs Spain have an edge that any of those teams playing Brazil or Argentina just doesn’t have for the fans.

ACM is AC Milan, in Italy. The song you hear at the beginning is Sarà perché ti amo by Ricchi e Poveri (1980 or down there). The chant that follows is using its melody to insult the opponents (Juventus), they slightly altered the lyrics to achieve that. In general, if you want to see "hard" atmospheres... Balkans or Turkey are the way to go.

If you want to understand where the passion for Football comes from in Europe it is the rivalries within towns, between cities and in the history of the Clubs. AC Milan/Inter Milan, Arsenal/Tottenham, Manchester City/Manchester United, Liverpool/Everton, Glasgow Celtic/Glasgow Rangers are all local rivalries. Liverpool/Manchester United, Leeds United/Manchester United, Barcelona/Real Madrid are all intercity rivalries. These teams were formed for a reason and all of it was about pride not Money. One team per city awarded a franchise based on an a League deciding they want that market can never compete with that. Promotion/Relegation also really helps building years long builds to success or bust. They are our clubs, they might be owned and controlled by others but we the supporters feel it is ours.

At 13:53 they (the English) sing "Here comes Pippi Longstocking". Music by Georg Riedel and text (albeit not here) by Astrid Lindgren (both Swedes). There is respect in the choice of melody, because Pippi Longstocking was a strong and free-thinking girl, a rebel the men would say.

I remember once when a stadium collapsed in Brazil a newspaper went to make an interview with one of the victims of the collapse and it was a girl. She was fine, not too badly hurt, just a smal cut on her forhead. The journalist asked her what happened, how she was feeling and she answered: "I am very happy because we won and the whole puplic coud show their apreciation towards the team by bringind the stadium down" It is a very sad thing that happens, though.

I lived near stadium for 13 years and damn, sometimes before football match like 4 streets around it were closed. I mean closed for cars, busses, etc, except for huge wave of football fans incoming towards stadium. And no alcohol is sold in any store for 1 mile around stadium during matches, no matter if you go home or not. I think one of the key differences between US and European sports atmospheres is in stadium design. US stadiums are designed more with the spectacle in mind, view of the pitch, corporate sponsor boxes and advertising boards etc. European stadiums tend to cram as many people into as tight a space as practically possible and generally leave more fans to let rip. Many more safety protocols are finding their way into European stadiums in recent years but some traditions just fail to go away. If you haven’t seen it already KB, I’d urge you to check out the Borussia Dortmund VS Liverpool full stadium rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone. Both teams have adopted it as their club anthem after separate tragedies and listening to a full stadium belting it out pre-game is spine-tingling.

That tribunes swing is actually a build in feature in quite some stadiums. The collaps happend because the architect didn´t account for the extra weight on the structure when fans go crazy. The one at 14:51 is Eintracht Frankfurt Germany and at the logo you see a black line on the buttom of the upper tribune, that´s not paint but a build in crack so the structure has space to move/swing without damage. It´s similar to long bridges which have cracks as well so side winds don´t put to much stress on the structure.

Well this all has pros and cons, as much as one might enjoy the atmosphere, there is a lot of extremism going on, the ultras are, what you don't really have in the US and how many games do you have in the US where the Police has to show up in huge numbers with backup from neighboring cities in full Riot gear... that's normal here, there are 3rd league games that need such levels of security with fan groups being escorted to and from the stadium surrounded by police to make sure they don't meet the opposing fans... so, there is that.

Just for the record: the bouncing stand (Stadium Nürnberg, Germany vs. Frankfurt) is not a security risk but part of the architecture. Similar to buildings that need to withstand earthquakes most German stadiums are equiped with suspensions to prevent them from colabsing when the fans are jumping. Its not an issue, but a feature.

Makes me think about the football tournament (soccer for the one in the US) we had in the years preparing for engineering school in France... Before some context, we had a philosophy lesson about some movement people had where they tried to create popsy with words that means nothing, like creating things with just sound. The teacher told about this making fun of it. Some infamous line he read during class was "iro iro iro pic pic, iro iro iro place paac". Fast forward, our class is playing in the tournament. All matches were played on the small concrete field inside the high school part, often during class hours just when we had time for it. Here we go screaming "iro iro iro pic pic, iro iro iro paac paac". Everyone was losing his mind. Best thing is philosophy teacher went by when we were doing things and it cracks him up
