You mentioned about the Queen being loved. The report talked about police officers rushing to arrest the shooter. Actually they rushed to rescue him because he was having the living daylights beaten out of him by the people around him in the crowd.

The Queen was an extremely accomplished horsewoman. If you notice, her first thought was for her horse. After the first shot went off, she shortened her reins in anticipation of her horse reacting, and so was able to regain control almost immediately. She definitely handled the situation with aplomb!

Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles was commanding Officer of the Household Cavalry at the time, and he said the Queen told him it was the worst day of her life. There is a story about when the Queen, the Queen Mother, and her sister, Princess Margaret, were dining privately. Crepes suzettes ( pancakes in a flaming sauce) were being served. But the waiter was nervous, and spilled the flaming sauce into Princess Margaret's lap. Obviously serving staff rushed to put Princess Margaret out, and she wasn't hurt. Rumour has it that the Queen said "Oh look, Margot's on fire," The Queen Mother replied " Oh look, so she is." !!!!

Two statues were commissioned of the Queen atop Burmese in the uniform you see her wearing. One stands in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada at the Provincial Legislature ( Regina is the home of Depot where the R.C.M.P. are trained. The other is at Sandhurst, Englands military Academy. Over her reign Queen Elizabeth was gifted something like eight horses from the R.C.M.P.. I believe King Charles was also just gifted a seven year old black mare named Noble. As someone that loves horses, I can say that not only was the Queen calm and collected, that horse had a LOT of trust in her also. I've ridden all sorts of horses and ponies and they're like people, and then you get 'the ones' where even under extreme circumstances they can remain calm and reassured by the bond with the rider. I've had one horse like that, not mine but I rode him so much that it made a lot of people jealous how he just always did the best he could for me. Including physically blocking other spooking horses and taking on a rude and arrogant bus driver. Didn't so much spook at the bus as decided it was a threat and kicked the living daylights out of it for getting too close, and at 17.3hh draft cross weighing in at well over 800kg, damage was done. Im old enough to remember seeing this live, it was a marve she wasnt injured. Bear in mind she was side saddle too. There was a kidnapping attempt on Princess Anne in 1974 by Ian Ball. After the kidnapper shot her bodyguard, he told her to get out of the car, to which she responded "Not bloody likely". She talked about the incident in an interview later on and laughed and joked about it.

Watching this actually just reminded me of Sefton and the Hyde park bombing 😭 as a horse mad kid, i was devastated seeing those pictures of the horses lying dead and Sefton with his terrible injuries, at that time i didn't really think about the human casualties,i was in a phase of being a horse and dog mad girl and all people were terrible so i was more upset over the horses but looking back, what an awful time that was. A decade and a bit later, the IRA targetted my home town and killed 2 young boys with a bomb in a bin in the town centre, then another incident where i think a police officer was killed, i was sleeping just over the road from the gas works bomb, if it had worked as intended I'd probably be dead right now. We've seen some crazy things in this little country

The incident when an intruder entered the palace at night involved a slightly deranged unemployed man in his 30s-40s taking and drinking some wine, entering the Queen's bedroom and more or less sitting on the end of her bed which she was occupying at the time. The Queen remained calm and composed and talked him around so as to calm him down until the security people arrived to take him away.

When the shots (blanks) were fired, Prince Philip broke protocol and moved his horse to ride next to the queen. She didn't tell him off, for obvious reasons.

She could change a tyre and was known to be found under the hood of her old land rover tinkering away and getting it restarted. What a woman. Glad to say Princess Royal ,Princess Ann, was just as stoic when there was an attempted kidnap with firearms on Pall Mall London ,where her bodyguard was shot a number of times.

Wartime generation. They didn't make a fuss. She was a superb horsewoman and her first concern was to calm her horse. Seriously, this was a generation who joked about dodging mines in the Channel, or how they couldn't go to the air raid shelter because the dog wouldn't budge during an air raid. I had a great aunt who lived in London all through the Blitz and made it sound so much fun I wished I'd been there.

When Burmese was retired Queen Elizabeth said she could not attend the ceremony with another horse, she felt it like unfair, so started to attend sitting in a coach. She loved her horses so much, if you notice her pics together with a horse, she is always smiling.

You're right, our late Queen was certainly extremely brave. The year after the incident shown here, as you recall, a man called Michael Fagan managed to break into Buckingham Palace and to enter The Queen's bedroom while she slept. I'll not describe any more detals,as it's certainly worth looking at some news reports of that event, which again demonstrated how unflappable Her Majesty was!

The Queen was an incredible horse handler, no doubt about that, and the fact that she's actually riding side-saddle while maintaining control of a bolting horse is fantastic. Her Majesty was still riding horses up until the year before she died. Amazing!

I was impressed by her immediate reaction of shortening the reins to control Burmese. She steadied him, gave him a pat, and carried on. Minimum fuss. Actually, minimum fuss on the part of her guards, as well. They just calmly and effectively did their jobs. Effective action without ineffective over-reaction.

Princess Anne showed herself to be her mother's daughter during that kidnap attempt in 1974. The gunman told her to get out of the car to which she famously replied, "Not bloody likely." She also said that she remained very polite and calm to stop herself from hitting him which might have caused him to shoot her. Talk about calm under pressure ... the Princess Royal has courage beyond measure!

So many people watch this video and are blown away by it. But this was our Queen. Dear Queen Elizabeth, gracious, kindly, lovely, loving her family and her country, but badass when needed. And we still miss her .

Someone tried to do the same to the King years ago in Australia they were immediately arrested.

After Burmese died the Queen always used a carriage to attend Trooping the Colour, because she didn't feel any other horse would be as experienced enough to control under these situations should it reoccur, plus she was getting older herself. During the incident one of her escort guards galloped up towards her incase she couldn't get the horse under control, but fell immediately back once it was evident that she was in control, allowing the situation to return to normal. In the case of others trying to attack the Queen, not so much, there was someone who broke into Buckingham Palace and the Queen kept him chatting until security arrived. Other members of the Royal Family...in 1974 someone tried to kidnap Princess Anne and shot 4 people (thankfully no one died). The kidnapper demanded that she get out of the car and she responded "not bloody likely", and someone shot at Prince Charles in Australia in 1994, and once again he just carried on as if nothing had happened. Historically there were 3 assassination attempts against Queen Victoria, but they all failed. In the USA the tactic is to remove the President or other VIP away from the danger as quickly as possible, because there could be a second shooter. I've watched the Regan shooting documentary and the Secret Service just dragged him away to get him to safety, in fact he was shot whilst they were pushing him into the car, which was bad timing. If they hadn't pushed him into the car he may not have been shot, but hindsight is always so clear. The main takeaway from the Regan shooting is that the police and Secret Service officers were ALL watching the President...NONE of them were watching the crowd. A costly mistake, which I doubt has been repeated since. In the UK the police watch the crowd, the soldiers line the route, and the Queen's (or King's now) Guard all have radio communications (something that they didn't have until after this incident with the Queen), so they and the police can communicate, so if anyone spots a potential threat that is immediately communicated to everyone. You will also notice at Royal Events now that as well as the standard police, there are also many armed police officers, all of whom are watching the crowd for threats. Proof that the public still love the monarchy in the UK, when the Queen's body was taken to Edinburgh, a stupid idiot in the crowd tried being disrespectful and the police had to rescue him from the outraged crowd who were kicking the crap out of him. As someone said to the idiot later, there is a time and place for letting your opinion be known, but you don't disrespect the dead, and especially not a woman who was so loved that millions lined the streets to say their goodbyes to her.

On a visit to Canada I believe in the '70s there were threats by the Quebec Separatists threatening HM. She ignored them and proceeded with the tour as planned. she would not be intimidated.

The individual who did this was a 17 year old reject from both the army and royal marines. His applications to both the police and fire service were also rejected. The weapon used was an imitation Colt 45 Revolver capable of shooting blank ammunition only. Even so, if anyone was hit ,there was a potential for injury or death . On that day in 1981, the queen and Burmese were heading towards horse guards, which is the start of Trooping the Colour. 6 shots were fired, Burmese was startled and jumped forwards before the queen brought him under control. Meanwhile, guardsmen and civilians were tackling the gunman; detaining him until police put the handcuffs on. The perpetrator was charged under section 2 of the Treason Act- Discharging a firearm at or near the queen with intent to cause alarm or distress. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. He served 3 years before being released on parole.

She choked up on the reins before the horse tried to bolt. Talk about a good reaction!! Also so calm with her husband, oldest son and royal cousin riding right behind her.

Burmese was given to Queen Elizabeth in 1969 from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. She was a mare born in Saskatchewan, where the RCMP training academy is, and there is a statue of the Queen on Burmese in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. The Queen rode the 'Trooping of the Colours' on Burmese for 18 years.

Marcus Sarjeant, about 20, from Dover, who failed to stay in the royal marines, was rejected in his attempt to join the police, army and fire brigade. He joined the 1980 antiroyalist movement. He was caught with colt python revolvers obtained via mail order. He sent letters to two gun magazines warning that someone was going to assassinate the Queen, with an image of himself holding his father's gun as a prop, he couldn't get hold of the correct bullets. He sent a similar letter without the photo to the palace. Scots Guard Alec Galloway along with others caught him out of the crowd

I was stood less probably just less than 100m from the shooting incident. She was astounding throughout. The police moved in quickly on the shooter but the crowd around were not going to let him get away in anycase.

Our late sovereign at one time nearly got shot at by her own guards at Windsor castle. On this occasion our late sovereign decided to go for a late walk in the grounds of Windsor castle. She got challenged by one of the sentries, and requested the password. It was only when they walked under a light when the recognising happened. At that point protocol then followed, with the sentry informing the guard commander, and duty officer. Whom escorted the sovereign back to the royal quarters. The sentry was praised for their professionalism, and for doing their duty. Buckingham palace has had a few incidents with Michael Fagan getting in when the sovereign was in residence. Plus, a sentry leaving their post, with rifle ready, and. bayonet fixed, to stop someone entering the grounds, trying to get past the police on duty. The Royal family has had a few close calls over the years. To say the least. Great video sir.

This is an example of what set our late Queen apart - and her mother, and probably grandmother before her, Queens Elizabeth and Mary: they were not just individuals who had been born into one of the world's richest, most influential and certainly the most famous family or, in the case of QEQM, who had married into it: they did not perceive their roles to be mere wallflowers whose every need would be attended to by an army of servants. Rather, they worked hard to become the professionals that they all were, at their various pursuits. May of Teck was already a minor royal and Elizabeth the youngest daughter of a noble family , and neither were they under any illusions of just how hard they needed to work to become the experts that their husbands needed them to be in order that they (Kings George V and VI), would become all that the country expected of them. In the days or arranged Royal Marriages, May remained at the top of Queen Victoria's list of suitable young ladies, even after Prince Albert Victor - to whom she was engaged, had died; and so was obliged to marry his brother instead - for whose company she did not really care for very much - nor did he care much for hers! They did however grow quite fond of each other after a few years. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon didn't want to be Royal and so, turned down the first two proposals of the then Prince George! That's not to say that she wanted to 'live a little' in the ways much demonstrated by the then Prince of Wales as photographs of her at such events with her husband after they'd married surely testified - she wasn't that kind of girl at all! So when she did eventually say yes, she was under no illusions about the enormity of her task ahead - and that was long before there was any possibility of them becoming king and queen! With supreme irony (given how many people were against her and that many of them still are), Queen Camilla seems to have slidden into the same position, almost effortlessly... Without his highly decorated and bejewelled consort by his side, the chances are that George V would have remained a bed-tempered old autocrat in the eyes of many, who was cruel to little boys (including his own), yet enchanted by their sisters. We all know what he'd be called today, were he to exhibit such behaviours! George VI would likely have remained a nervous, almost unfit-for-office king with a bad speech disorder, who largely kept himself shut away from view because of it. Would he even have thought of clambering through the wreckage of the East End of London during WWII, without his methodical, ever-practical and down to earth queen by his side? Would there still be a monarch today? Already, we're reading reports of how King Charles III is "a bit gruff" at Birkhall, without Camilla by his side - who will have joined him by now, to receive their family visitors at Balmoral, and to reflect privately, on the events of a year ago...? Would he bring laughter wherever he goes, cracking jokes with members of the public, or would he be another absentee monarch, lost in the world of the organic gardens that surround his many homes? The fact is, the men of Windsor just don't get it! They look around and say, "thank-you very much," for all the wealth and riches afforded them, and take for granted that their every wish will be performed for those who serve them. They don't approach their lives as a job of work which they can enjoy perfecting in ways that are meaningful for others - for it is their privilege to be loved and respected - and to only ever encounter freshly-painted interiors - in their view. Edward VIII even partied - just as his grandfather, Edward VII had done - and many others before them - and just as Prince Andrew did in the present day. By contrast, the Princess Royal gets it; the Duchesses of Edinburgh and Gloucester certainly do too - though I'm afraid the jury's still out on the Princess of Wales; and all the Duchess of Sussex gets is that it's probably in her best interests to stay away. It took her a number of serious mistakes and errors of judgement, not to mention an enormous amount of money over many years - but in her more mature years, even Sarah, Duchess of York, appears to have got it - albeit much too late in the day to redeem her best friend cum estranged former husband...
