The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II was a beautiful and solemn experience. I was impressed all around, but especially with the pallbearers who had the honor of their lives, to carry Queen Elizabeth to her final resting place. This was the first Royal funeral I've witnessed and it was a wonderful way to celebrate the legacy of the Queen.
Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this reaction please give this video a thumbs up, share your thoughts in the comments and click the subscribe button to follow my journey to learn about my British ancestry.

The Pallbearers were 8 soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards, the Grenadier Guards are the most senior regiment in the Army, their role is to guard the Monarch and Palaces as well as overseas, it's always their responsibility to be the pallbearers to Monarch's, they're continuing to both guard and also serving their last duty for her. They were flawless and did her proud. The cloth King Charles put on the Queens coffin was The Scarlet Banner, it's a smaller version of the standard for the Grenadier Guards as the Queen was Company Commander, it will stay in place even after burial. I think Westminster Abbey seats over 2,000 people, all dignitaries from all over the world attended, Windsor is a bit smaller with 800 seats and for staff past and present as well as Realm Prime Ministers. The Queens pony was there on the route at Windsor as well as 2 of her Corgi's and the Queens personal bagpiper played for the last time, playing "Sleep, Dearie, Sleep" He played under the Queens window every morning for 15 mins at Balmoral as a sort of alarm clock. He played in the Chapel and continued playing as he left and the sound of those pipes drifting away into the distance never to play for her again was heart breaking. So, a lot of personal touches as well as tradition at Windsor which was her home.

@@andrearoyd2942 Yes and not to sound macabre nor disrespectful here but I remember Diana's coffin obviously wasn't lined with lead because it appeared to 'roll' more when being lifted, so am thinking the lead lining for the Queen was for this reason as she was to be moved a lot more?

May she rest forever Queen Elizabeth, she will always be remembered for the rest of History... as one of the best monarchs not only in the United Kingdom but also in the world. I don't even live in the UK and I already miss her for a strange reason. I think it's just the strong influence she had on so many people. Hi, thanks for your respectful manner in watching this video. The coffin was walked from Westminster Hall to the first church (Westminster Abbey) for the formal state funeral (note that the word 'state' means the country, not like a state in the US). The coffin was on a gun carriage and pulled by members of the Royal Navy - horses are not used because at Queen Victoria's funeral many years before one of the attachments to one of the horses broke and the horses panicked, almost throwing the coffin off the carriage. Members of the Royal Navy stepped in and pulled it by hand the rest of the way - this has happened ever since. It was then transported by hearse to Windsor Castle which is the family home of the Windsor royal family (known as the House of Windsor) and into St Georges chapel which is at Windsor. The internment was then into the crypt of the church where the casket would be placed with other deceased members of the royal family. You asked about the orb, crown and scepter; these will be held until Charles is crowned and are symbols of the monarchs right to rule. You can find details of these online.

I spent the day of the funeral at Windsor Castle. Was a great atmosphere on the long walk. Solemn but also joyful. Her pony Emma was there. She rode that horse for 24 years and last rode in Windsor in July 2022. Emma had the Queen's sheep skin saddle on and the Hermes head scarves draped over the saddle. When the Royal hearse went by. Emma tapped her right hoof twice. Animals know more than what we give them credit for. Emma is now going to be rehomed. So here's hoping she goes to live with Anne, Princess Royal.

The whole thing was wonderful. Down to the spider from the Royal Gardens who accompanied HM to the Abbey. And the Highlands who showed themselves at their most beautiful as she drove away. The tractors. The faeric lights and good old British rain as she entered London (lowest point for me, the whole thing echoed how I felt and I was imagining how cold and miserable the people lining the streets must have felt). And especially the incredible service people who were amazing from start to finish. Not forgetting the mounted police officers.

Her funeral was amazing and to witness it is something I'll never forget.

Canadian here. I cried several times too. One of the many things that really set me off was the piper at St George’s Chapel. He piped in a side aisle for a short while and then slowly walked away, still playing. It was a musical way to send it home today that the Queen had drifted out of our world. I think the piping was done just as the Queen’s coffin was lowered into the vault. It must have been incredibly moving for the people in the Chapel to hear those pipes fade away as her coffin lowered.

The flag the King laid on his mother's coffin was a smaller version of the Colours of the Grenadier guards (same regiment as the pall bearers... the most senior guards regiment). She was their Company Commander. It remains on her coffin where it's interred and the colour is retired. The 2nd chapel in the highlights dates back to 1475 although various bits have been restored or added. The Queen herself built the very small 10 x 14ft chapel for her father, with an interment chamber underneath, where she now lays. There are various other vaults full of prior kings and queens. The crown on the coffin, the Imperial State Crown, is worn on the way out of the coronation (St. Edward's crown for the actual crowning). It's also used for the State Opening of Parliament ceremony. Although not the original crown (lots of original stuff destroyed in the English Civil War), it's still old as are the stones that have been transferred. The sapphire in the top of the crown is believed to be from Edward the Confessor's coronation ring from 1042 (although probably tidied up since then). Great reaction but a shame these highlights didn't include any of the procession. For your heritage, you'd probably find the first bit with the pipes and drums going to Westminster Abbey (with 2000 guests), really moving. The current Abbey started being built in 1245 but there are apparently some bits of the original building buried in the depths which were built in the 960's-970's.

I agree. The Massed Pipes and Drums colourfully piping her from Westminster Hall to the Abbey at Her Majesty's own request has to be seen. If you visit Britain you can see those Crowns, and the Orb and Sceptre on display at The Tower of London as part of the Crown Jewels. They reside there day to day under the Tower's Fort Knox like security unless needed for the State Opening of Parliament or the coming Coronation.

@@vilebrequin6923 The Camp Colours are often seen on parades, such as Trooping the Colour, carried by those chosen to act as markers. There has been a Westminster Abbey since 1066. The current building has stood since 1269.. 39 kings & queens have been crowned there since 1066. Also 30 kings & queens are buried within the abbey & also the burial place for "Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Charles Darwin and many other prominent people of the past". St, George's chapel is the church within the walls of Windsor castle, a royal residence dating back to 1070. The chapel was built in 1511 & is the home to the 'order of the garter', which are the knights & ladies honoured since 1398. The queen now joins other royals that are also buried in the St. George's chapel vault.

The removing of the crown, orb and sceptre, signifies that the Queen had ended her role as sovereign and these symbols of her monarchy were handed back to the people. The crown will go off to the royal jewellers to be remodelled for King Charles in time for his coronation, sometime next year - rumoured to be 2 June to match the date of his mother’s coronation. But the Aueen’s coronation took 17 months to plan and that only give the Duke of Norfolk and co 9 months to sort out one of the biggest ceremonies ever. King Charles is supposed to favour a smaller coronation so that the cost isn’t moaned about by republicans. But it’s not a ceremony many will see repeatedly in their lifetimes. The little flag, is the flag of the Grenadier Guards. The pallbearers were Grenadier Guards. When the Queen came to the throne, she became their Company Commander and they were her personal bodyguards. That flag will be interred with her coffin in the vault, along with the broken stick that was the Lord Chamberlain’s staff of office. He was the chap behind King Charles. There’s a lot of little ancient details that a short video will not cover but I’d not wish to sit through nine hours of it again as it was heartbreaking.

As a by note one of the pallbearers was unresponsive the next day in his barricks ,he was 19yrs old .so his family need to know we as sorry and hope their pain can come to be bearable not now but many months and years from now .

The 8 pall-bearers, even being young and strong guys, must have had nerves of steel. I think you meant that the sound of the singing in Westminster Abbey was 'reverberant' I was very pleased that your President was able to be there.

If you can find the time, have a look at the long, slow marches behind the gun carriage. Having to hold themselves together for such a long day has to be admired. I’m not a royalist, but I had respect for the Queen and her dedication to duty. I’ve also enjoyed watching videos of her in lighter moments - she had an infectious giggle!

Hi Steve, The Imperial State Crown and The Crown Jewels are the same for every monarch. The Crown will be stripped and redesigned and resized before The King’s Coronation. The thing he put on the coffin was The Queens colour, it was used in days gone by to show the military which camp their Colonel is on when in battle.

What little part of the ceremony I watched online, I stood and watched, with tears in my eyes. Of course, Her Majesty was old when I was born and she would not live forever, but still, as an Englishman, losing her during my lifetime felt like I had lost a constant that I had had, throughout my life. Now her heavy task falls to her son. Long may he reign.

the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier GuardsThank you for your respectful and generally lovely review of the funeral of Elizabeth the Great. As a sidenote, as you quite rightly paid such tribute to the young men whose role it was to carry the late Queen's coffin through the day, as some of have already mentioned, they of the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards and some of them were on leave from active service for this occasion and are only teenagers. They are chosen for their equal strength and almost equal height. All Royal coffins are lead-lined, so you can imagine how much they weigh. Those boys did Her Majesty, the UK and the Commonwealth as proud as they do on active service. Particularly as on this occasion, they had the eyes of the world on them.

Everybody in Westminster Abbey was chosen by the Queen when she was alive. Heads of the Commonwealth, Royal Families from across the world, Heads of State, all living soldiers and veterans who received the VC, representatives from her many charities, staff members and members of the Royal Family. It was magnificent and a fitting tribute to our late Queen who served us all for over 70 years. May she now rest in peace with her beloved Prince Philip. St George's Chapel is part of Windsor Castle where the vault holds the bodies of past Monarchs.

@@reactingtomyroots No. Charles and William will have to be buried somewhere else, although probably still in Windsor Castle. The Queen is buried a tiny chapel which was added to St George Chapel , with just enough room for King George VI, the Queen's father, his wife Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Phillip who has been reintered there now that the Queen is dead. The Queen's only sister, Margaret, was cremated so that her ashes could be placed in the place where her parents and sister are buried, as she knew there would be no room for her to be buried there. The family of King George VI was very close and referred to themselves as "We four".

The UK Crown Jewels are kept in the Tower Of London and the UK Monarch has the use of them during their reign, but do not personally own them. Therefore, the Imperial State Crown, Orb & Sceptre were returned to the Tower after the second service.

HI STEVE DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES As someone who has recently list my own mother my heart goes out totally to King Charles and his siblings as I could not have done what they did in public. I can truely relate to the raw emotions they are going through. We felt awful as a nation losing our Queen, but they lost a family member a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin. The Queen was laid to rest in the vault of St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle beside her late husband Prince Phillip and near her parents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. The Crown, Orb and Sceptre will be presented to King Charles at his own Coronation next year. GOD REST THE QUEEN LONG LIVE THE KING.

I was there outside Westminster Abbey (on the corner of Whitehall) and it was one of the most poignant experiences of my life. There was parading and ceremonial things going on outside the whole time while we listened to the service on loud speakers. So strange to be in a crowd of hundreds of thousands and it be so quiet. The moment she went past us was so emotional. Such a special experience and one I shall carry with me forever. It’s still surreal to think that fabulous woman isn’t here anymore🥺

The pallbearers deserve recognition for carrying out their duty to convey our late-Queen to her final resting place, which must've have been both physically and emotionally exhausting, with so many millions of people around the globe watching. Pride wouldn't have even come into it, as it would've been overridden by a deep sense of duty. The focus required to keep their emotions in check while fullfilling their duty must've been immense, not only for the pallbearer party, but for all those who escorted the Queen on her final journey. They all deserve medals for discharging their duties so well.

There was the main service in Westminster Abbey and the Commital at St George's Chapel, in Windsor which your clip showed. Thank you for your obvious interest and respect. Obviously it started in Scotland and the Vigil there and she was flown back to London.
