The moment she entered Westminster Abbey and the choir started singing felt like an electric shock to me. That epitomised the enormity, the solemnity and the majesty and historical significance of the occasion. We will never see her like again but the monarchy continues as it always has. One of my very favourite moments from the Queens' life: The Saudi King, Abdullah visited her at Balmoral (where she died). In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. She offered to show him around the Balmoral estate. Once he was seated in her Land Rover, she hopped in the drivers seat and drove him through the country lanes at such a speed he had to ask her to slow down! It was her way of making a point without saying a word.

I live in NORFOLK. I regularly saw her diving her LandRover between Sandringham and Park Farm. Unmistakeable with her ever present headscarf. Hard to believe she has gone. My late father a Welsh Guardsman took part in her Coronation, he would frequently tell us stories of that day. My dad is guarding our Queen again her soul is safe with him.

She always made point, with her hats, her actions. The employees are forbidden to accept anything from people staying with her in the Palaces They have to politely refuse. The Saudi family when leaving, gave a block of 50pounds notes, about 5 thousands to the maids, each They were going to give back The Queen stopped them Because she knew that money would help them And the Saudi Riyals knew they shouldn't. her employee were very well regarded by her. The saddest part of the procession was along the Long Walk at Windsor, her pony Emma lined the route to say goodbye, her corgis at the gate & the 2 youngest Royals crying.
@tomboychick

I thought it was incredibly sad when I saw her pony & corgis. In that moment, you are reminded the Queen was not just a queen, but a mother & animal lover like many of us are. It was such an normal & ordinary gesture. They could have been present at a 'normal' person's funeral, and the sight of them would have provoked the same reaction.

I was in floods of tears listening and seeing King Charles with tears in his eyes really wanted to hug him through my television. It was a beautiful and very emotional perfect send off for our queen. If you do get a chance to watch it all the way through make sure you got some tissues at hand. Im still a bit drained today she was one hell of a leader of our country and of the world. I will always smile remembering the queen's jubilee 70 years with Paddington bear when she offers him tea and pulls out a marmalade sandwich from her handbag. She had a great sense of humour. The coffin bearers were the Queen's Company, Grenadier Guards, who two weeks before had been guarding the British Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. My favourite story was the time when the Queen was out walking near her home at Balmoral, alone except for one police security guard, when they met a party of American tourists - who failed to recognise her! They started to chat, and the Americans asked her if she had ever met the Queen. 'No' she replied 'but this policeman has'.

It was such a lovely service for her late majesty the Queen. I have to say I teared up a few times yesterday. In 2002 because of voluntary work I did I got invited to the queen's garden party at the Palace of holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. It might not seem a lot to some but it was a big deal for me. A wee council estate kid being invited to such an event. The whole Royal family should be praised for their roles, none moreso than the King who selflessly made it his duty to visit all the countries of the kingdom, talk to members of the public and meet foreign dignitaries as well as take part in various ceremonies in the ten days between the death and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth. @@patriciaedwards2355 It was suggested to me that it was quite possible that the coffin was empty and didn't hold the Queen and that the queen was interred later in the real coffin. Hi JT, the initial ceremony was at Westminster Abbey. The coffin was moved from Westminster Hall where she lay in state. She was transported on a gun carriage pulled by ratings from the Royal Navy (as the senior service), the bearers were from the Queens company , the Grenadier guards (who will still continue to be called the Queens company). After the service the coffin was returned to the gun carriage, and a procession continued past Buckingham palace to Wellington Arch. She was then carried by hearse to Windsor castle, where again the Grenadier Gurds carried the coffin into St George’s chapel where her coffin was interred. I’ve never considered myself a massive royalist, but the whole day was a dignified solumn spectacle which showed the Uk at its finest

I believe that the British Army used to transport the body of the Monarch on a (the) horse drawn gun carriage. From what I’ve read recently at Queen Victoria’s funeral one of the horses got spooked or something and they had to remove the horses part way. An enterprising naval officer got together a party of sailors and they pulled the gun carriage the rest of the way. The Royal Navy have kept up that tradition ever since.

One of the stories I like hearing the most is from my nan who is still with us today at 94 years old . She lived in London during the blitz and her street got messed up really bad alot of her friends died . One day while clearing the streets yo try to get some sort of normal life back a carage pulls up and the then queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth who was 18 at the time got out and started walking around greeting people . My nan was doing kids stuff running around trying to find the biggest bomb shrapnel with the other kids when princess Elizabeth came over and asked them what they where up to one of my nans friends had lost her father in a bombing raid a few weeks before and she said she was looking for bomb fragments to turn into a necklace so she could remember her dad and the princess sat with her for a few moments just hugging this little girl telling her that her dad had died being brave and defending the country and she should be very proud of him because the Royal family are . I love the fact that they where hold up in a fortress hiding but chose to visit areas that still had unexploded bombs all over the place just so they could show people they where with them and the danger the public faces is also the danger they face and even though they could hide away and be safe they know others don't get that choice so why should they . The little girls dad was a spotlight operator he was lighting up German bombers for flak to target when his position took a direct hit

As i said when the queen died, i live in the UK and yesterday watching the funeral i was awake from 5am until 10pm. A grand total of 17 hours and i saw at 6am, the last group of people walking through Westminster Hall to see the coffin and they all looked very tired and emotional understandably after queuing up for 13-16 hours across Central London. It was a very emotional service and i think the part we all kind of lost it was when the TV cameras went onto the queen's dogs and her horse. But the procession up the royal mile at Windsor Castle, there are some fantastic pictures of that. The route between London to Windsor, they closed all the roads to cars so that people could stand on the roads & pavements and there was at least 500,000 that lined the route (200,000 at Windsor Castle) official numbers haven't been released yet as they are just estimates but i suspect we'll get an official number in the coming days. I have two favourite moments of the queen: 1) the last part of the jubilee when the crowds at Buckingham Palace sang the national anthem, she and the rest of the family looked genuinely moved by the numbers there and the way the national anthem was sung, I think they all knew it would be the last public appearance for the queen. 2) a few Christmases ago, Prince George was baking a cake with Prince William and he started smashing this stick into a bowl of all the cakes ingredients, Queen Elizabeth moved away looking quite scared, I'm sure people will remember what i am on about. The day the queen died, the 10 days that followed and yesterday will be a period of my life that I will never ever forget because it was a huge moment in history. As Piers Morgan said on the evening of the queen's death: "Whatever your views on the monarchy, as Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral this afternoon, a little piece of us all died with her"

For your information. The coffin is made of oak, it is lead-lined and weighs a quarter of a ton. It is covered by the Royal Standard, the Sovereign's personal flag. The gun carriage is pulled by ratings from the Royal Navy and some of those chosen have been in the Navy for less than three monthsThe people in plumed helmets who are walking alongside are members of the Company of Gentlemen At Arms. Following them, and dressed in red Tudor uniforms are Yeoman Warders. Both of these form part of the Sovereign's bodyguard and were first raised in the 16th century by King Henry VIII. The Bearer Party are part of the Queen's Company of the Grenadier Guards. Normally, That would change to King's Company. However, in honour of the Late Queen, The King has ordered that they remain The Queen's Company. The tradition that naval ratings pulling the gun carriage goes back some years. Horses were originally used but at a Royal funeral the horses were spooked. The new Sovereign called out to some Royal Navy personnel to take up the traces and since then the Royal Navy has pulled the gun carriage. I hope this helps explain things. One more point: All such events are well planned in advance. But it is the responsibility of The Earl Marshall, His Grace the Duke of Norfolk, who has that hereditary role. The Earl Marshall is in charge of all state funerals, royal weddings and coronations.

One of the things that I think is often forgotten is the Queen had a very good sense of humour. She's was well aware of the absurdity of her position, and would poke fun at herself quite often. Charles's favourite comedian was Spike Milligan, who wrote the seminal radio comedy programme The Goon Show. Indeed, Spike and Charles would later become friends. That level of absurdity would have been appreciated by the Queen herself, I'm sure. It's been an odd couple of weeks, but I'm sure King Charles III will be as effective a monarch as his late mother. I just think he'd rather have his mum and dad still with him than have to be King at the moment.

I lost my mother 3 months ago, it was a trying 10 days for me, I am emotionally drained, as I try to process both the loss of my mother, and now the Queen. I loved the bagpipers, as my mother and father are Scottish, I was in tears. Our Queen will live on in our hearts, a very beautiful soul, who is now with her beloved, Prince Philip. I don't expect my father, after 67 years of marriage, will linger too long, so that he can be re-united with his beloved. Very emotional, very British, and the day I spent at home watching the whole thing on TV, the whole town very subdued, with very little to no traffic and respectful, very surreal, indeed.

Utmost respect to you JT for demonstrating such respect for our Queen. I remember watching the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic games. When The Queen turned around during the James Bond sketch, my jaw dropped! The best thing about it, no one else in her family knew she was doing it, so they enjoyed the surprise as much as we all did. That 1 sketch embodied everything to me that being British is. Tradition, History and splendor, but when all is said and done, we like a laugh, and so did she!
@tomboychick
@tomboychick Жыл бұрын
Then she did the same again, only just over 3 month's ago, when she had tea with Paddington Bear. The look on Princess Charlotte's face was the visual definition of a jaw dropping moment! The reaction from the crowds on The Mall, watching on the big screens, was a collective "aww!" followed immediately by laughter & cheering. And the fact the she could poke fun at herself, by answering a question that everyone has had at some point - "What DOES the Queen have in her handbag?" - Never in a million years would anyone have guessed that it was a marmalade sandwich! For later! I think that sketch, that image, will be the one that will (if it hasn't already) come to define the end of her reign & legacy. Not her waning health. Not the dramas caused by her son or grandson & his wife. Just a woman having tea with a clumsy Peruvian bear, chatting about their shared love for a marmalade sandwich. What better way could you ask to be remembered, than that?

Yeah the funeral in London and the commital ceremony in Windsor afterwards basically took all day, 11am to 5pm approx, but there was a lot happening in the morning before that and much talk afterwards… it was so emotional and quite shattering but well worth it. If you get the chance to see the whole thing in private, i think you will not regret it. The BBC did a great commentary though they were silent during the funeral itself, out of respect. The miltary carrying the Queens coffin had just got back from service in Iraq, so i believe. And so emotional - I feel like I’m carrying it with me. It was everything that fabulous woman deserved, and we’ll never see the likes of it again, even for future Kings. Purely because of the longevity and impact of her reign. And to be stood in crowds of hundreds of thousands, but to be able to hear a pin drop … spine-tingling! What they didn’t show in the footage was that outside, during the ceremony, all the soldiers were parading along the procession route. It was so impressive to watch while we were listening to the ceremony being played over loud speakers. The feeling at the moment her casket passed by is going to stay with me forever! This video showed parts of the formal church service. However, it missed out what, for me, was the real part of the day - the Queen's coffin being pulled by sailors round London on a gun carriage and the love shown by her people. If you get a chance to watch the BBC broadcast, even if it is in several sections, I think you would find comfort in it. The moment that really hit me was when the sceptre, orb and crown were removed from her coffin and placed on the altar. I was suddenly aware that all earthly. powers had gone and she was going on her journey into the unknown unprotected. We could do nothing more for her. Her coffin was lowered into the Royal Vault. At 7.30 GMT the coffins of the Queen and her late husband, Philip, were placed side by side in a tomb next to her mother, father and sister. I then felt she was safe and not alone any more. Take care, JT. We share your love for your Lizzie.

The pall bearers were members of the Queen's guards. They usually wear those bearskin caps. Those 8 soldiers were chosen specifically for the task and had to be brought back from Iraq, if I recall correctly. They did an amazing job. The coffin weighed about 700Ibs (317KG) as it is lead lined; as are all royal coffins. It was a very emotional day for all concerned. I could see that you felt it too. Many thanks for your kindness and respect.

As an animal lover I think you'd appreciate to know that 2 of her late majesty's corgis and her horse were brought to Windsor to say their goodbyes too. The corgis looked especially sad. Animals have a 6th sense about these things and grieve too.
