My mother makes Bananinhas at home (bananas, flavorless jello, some sugar, I think that's all it takes), and the name means "little bananas". Yes, they look like that, and the one you got is the most popular brand here in Brazil. I do know if your sample survived well in travel though. It is my stepdaughter's favorite sweet when she comes here (and she is American!). And your Easter egg melted en route to you, I can tell you that. All those chocolates you had are better fresh. And instead of Yokitos (which I do not know) they should have sent you Fandangos (different brand, same idea, and it's just a very salty ham, or alternatively cheese, flavored corn chip really... well, I love it). :-)

Our chocolates are hard because Brazil is a warm country. If it was softer, it would melt. Bananinha is pronounced kinda like bananing-ya

the banana one is a very common sweet, its made from cooked banana(thats why its black, it changes color because of the sugar caramelizing), the taste is probably correct, it tastes "diferent" from a normal banana. its a sort of aquired taste. the non sugar coated ones are great energy bars.

So, the Bananinhas is a Banana candy made with over riped bananas cooked in a pan with LOTS of sugar... it's a good source of energy. (And yes, it looks exectly like that, not very pleasant) And the Yokitos, in my opinion, are not the best brand, that's why I think it tastes a little blend.. We have a Cheetos version called "Fandangos" which has a lot more taste to it. The chocolate is called "Batom" because its shape is similar to a Lipstick (that's what Batom means in portuguese). The Chocolate Easter egg that you got is just one in hundreds of different types.. usually, every chocolate brand makes their own during easter.. they also make themed ones, with childen's cartoons and others tv shows...

The best corn chips in Brazil is Fandangos. It's probably my favourite Brazilian snack. I love bananinha too, and it means something like: "Little bananas".

That was actually a very poor selection. Most of those chocolates, for example, are merely copies of american ones (though with local nuts in the mix). Serenata de Amor and Sonho de Valsa taste similar because they're competitor products from different makers. Those are popular, cheap chocolates with a LOT of saturated fats and sugar and only about 10% cocoa in the recipe - this may be why you found the flavour strange. You should try some of our really typical treats, like goiabada (guava paste), doce de leite (milk sweet), rapadura (a sweet made of brown sugar), cocada (which is made with coconuts) and doce de abóbora com coco (a sweet with coconuts and pumpkin). These taste like Brazil!

I don't know if someone already commented on that but the correct translation for Batom Branco is actually "White Lipstick", which makes much more sense since no one expects you to use such a small chocolate as a baton.
