Americans watch The Inbetweeners to learn about British schools

The Inbetweeners is one of the best TV shows about British high school ever made. But what do Americans think of it? We got a pair of Americans to watch the classic E4 comedy, to see what they could learn about British schools from it. Did they fall in love with Simon, Will, Jay and Neil?
Then we got them to watch the much-reviled, short-lived American MTV version of The Inbetweeners. Is the remake as as bad as everyone says it is?

it's a mod style haircut, inspired by by 1970s era and people like Paul Weller. It has never gone out of fashion. Liam Gallagher made it popular in 1990s, pro cyclist Bradley Wiggins still rocks it now. It would be easy to find Americans with the hair style, just look for people into bands like the Jam or even 90s Brit pop. Particularly those who play in bands themselves or are into Italian scooters.

Americans laugh and react at the wrong points in the show. Example; Jay gets a fake ID, the comedic part is Neil’s reaction and Jay’s reaction to Neil. The American’s reaction is finding the fact that he has a fake ID funny and relatable. So backwards.

Father Ted is another classic, and loved Mr Bean back in the day. Stuff like The Office and Extras is fantastic too., and love Red Dwarf (have to be in the mood for it though) Fave comedy character has to be Alan Partridge. So many different kinds of comedies over the years - going to be biased and say UK comedy is (or at least was) the very best in the world.

Jay’s is short and messy. They’re nothing alike. The only reason why everyone says it’s Bieber like is because he left a bad taste in everyone’s mouthes towards longer hair after 2010. Andrew Smith I think it could’ve been good if they modelled it on American teens. The reason The Inbetweeners UK was such a success is because we all related to it SO much, it was such an accurate representation of our school years. But the US version tried to copy the UK version, tried to copy its humour and characters, and it fell flat because they just don’t understand our humour. For example The Office US used the format of the original British version, but it had different characters only loosely based on the originals and used American humour, which is why that is a successful UK-to-US adaptation.

I suppose its hard to compare them. Both Britain and the US have each produced very entertaining films and shows about growing up in their different parts of the world and while each are funny and representative of their school lives, they can't be compared to one another because growing up in Britain IS just so different to growing up in America. That's why over here, the inbetweeners is a classic whereas Americans probably don't understand it, relate to it or find it as funny as the brits do. It's not their fault, they're just unused to our humour!

The British Imbetweeners was a lot more raw than the American version because that was how teenagers actually talk , whereas the American version has sugar coated everything making it more like victorious or something , but then kept the script more or less line for line so it just doesn’t work , also all the main characters in the British version were average looking and more relatable whereas in the American one will and Simon were too attractive and jay and Neil were to unattractive so they don’t look like they’d actually hang out together in a real school

Chemistry is what the American version was lacking. British version is funny because i tend to relate to it more. It's acted brilliant, think. Real, kinda gritty. But most of all funny. I also believe, they acted younger than they were. I think in real life they were mostly in their early to mid twenty's.
