@@Nimori disabled people feel worthless all the time. Not to mention the fact that you feel sick day in and day out. Disability pays next to nothing. It's dehumanizing to feel helpless. They also usually take allot of meds. It's such a bad feeling when you just don't have enough $$ to live like a normal human being. No one wants to get sick or hurt and go on disability. Please have some compassion for the disabled. You cannot find a more appreciative sector of our society than those that hurt the most... the disabled person. Thanks for listening.

Nimori -David- try being sick with no health insurance and unable to work or function and the doctors not be able to figure out what is wrong with you. And on top of that you have family that depends on you. Also not being qualified for DI.

@Ohcrapits xenia After being in the "system" of workers compensation for 23 years and even though went back to work after 2 spinal surgeries, 2nd was to fix the first and getting "lifetime medical coverage" awarded instead of taking money. I have had to endure the ravages of opioid, anti-depressant, and other medication withdrawal symptoms because "patient has not yet tried this and that medication or medical treatment or physical therapy..." I have done every thing that I have tried, yet now the insurance company has decided that psychological problems, due to my being in chronic pain 24/7 since 1996, do not exist. The data/doctors reports shows different results. Wish I was treated as a human being rather than a statistic that needs to be silenced... and shoved aside.

Setter Rosa Are you on SSDI? After being in constant pain for that long I would think it's borderline PTSD by now? Either way, if you have doctors proof of a valid medical condition which is clearly recognized in the medical community, by medical professionals, how can an insurance company make that claim? I mean it's not a secret that insurance companies will do anything/come up with anything, just to not make/continue to make payments. I would fight it tooth and nail.

I'm sure employers do terminate employees all of the time due to illness or disability. While the ADA does say that employers can't discriminate based on disability. However, if an illness or disability causes you to no longer be able to do your job at the employers expectations or worse, if a mental illness causes you to do something inappropriate, then they can certainly fire you for that. I've faced allot of discrimination even when I worked at Publix because I've suffered from depression. So that defeats the point.

I have dyslexia, dyxcalcula, ADHD, anxiety & memory impairment. I had to go to court to file for Child support for my 2 children, I requested accomodations when the hearing was finally coming up after 6 1/2 years. Due to my low income I could not afford an attorney & had to represent my self, I was told there was no accomodations for this type of Disability. After a virtual hearing I noticed they miscalculated child support for the years and number of children, I had to file a motion so they can correct there mistakes since there is a state guideline they go by can show where they made clerical mistakes & with my disability I could not correct at the moment. After I picked up the court notes is when it was obvious, it's been 7 months since this hearing I call to get updated in my motion with no resolve. I was told to file a new motion but why if they have not responded to the first one. The father has an attorney that must know this mistake benefits him. I have to now pay an attorney to recalculate what the court should have done with the correct information that was provided. This has caused me extreme financial hardship & emotional distress, Just knowing there are other like me or worst, to know they can be taken advantage of due to a disability really hurts.

UTI is pretty painful, too. I never had a UTI, but I’m pretty sure it’s likely more painful than lupus. Not trying to downplay any pain that you might have had, but lots of people get denied pain medication all the time, and it’s not because of race. On the show, “My 600 lb. Life”, an obese white man was denied pain medication because he clearly was misusing the drug(s), and was a drug addict himself. Also, painkillers can be extremely addictive, so unless if you are in excruciating pain, I don’t think the doctors are going to take the risk of giving someone painkillers and make someone a potential addict in the process if it’s really not needed. Even my mom, who is black and has neck pain, acknowledges that there’s a risk of getting addicted to painkillers. Her doctor gave her the option of taking the medication, and she rejected it.

@@Tina-fi2wy with my situation, I have lived a long time with this disease. 44 years to be exact. Not fair? Not really all that bad, as I'm older..I now understand the trials I had to face...to greet my destiny. We all have been granted what we want, but do we need that? I am looking for ways to heal. My older years I have had time to look back ; if only to show how I have grown. Forgive them... for they know what they done ...it's 2020! Grown up and become conscious. I recognize the treatment I was getting was a small amount, no sympathy. Just robot racist. Never spend five minutes speaking to me, listening, checking my records! One Dr said irregardless to me. The snow and cautious person said...that's not a word! It's like saying okokok...no. I need you to understand how to communicate!! I have seen thousands of Dr.s in my life...trust me...I know! My brother is fighting as a soldier nurse in a Detroit hospital! Now after 3 months he has Covid. Here in the city, I have managed with no an autoimmune system disease...begging death not to take me. What gives a Dr. Who works for me ...the audacity to be racist! My records, blood tests and my face( lupus butterfly rash) automatically shows you...this woman is hurting. I don't scream. I try to stay calm. When I have a seizure then ..ahhh I was telling the truth! I practice being Zen, with pain. I eat health, I laugh and love. But there are times when my body is like ok, let me break you more. Last night my skin was burning, my blood felt like it was boiling. I changed until I fell asleep, then woke up screaming! I get it...I have changed dr.s but when it's an emergency...I'm not treated right!

@@Tina-fi2wy It helps faster when given through I.V along with a steroid . I take Benedryl all day, my neighbors are pescatarian. I have an eppi-pen but my insurance only allows me to have two per year ...The doctor is seriously thinking about putting me in a static room for the rest of my life. This is all due to lupus. I have had cancer 2xs, pericarditis ( Toni Braxton) it's exhausting trying to give my medical history...as far as I know I have come close to death six times. I'm glad to be alive, but this is not living when I am treated with such disdain by doctors! They hate me because, I do my homework, I reasearch everything, I ask questions and remind them they work for me. Melanin is the slight color you see in my skin. I am compassionate, I am a mom of four a grandmother, I run a help group for people with lupus and I sit on the board of my insurance company. I have been fighting this for years! I even had a Dr from the E.R come to me and cry because he had to appologize for himself and his colleagues because he got lupus and him being Asian, and he even showed his Drs credentials, the refused to help him. He asked me how I live. One second, one moment at a lot of tissues. I do tai-Chi. I have taken every herbal supplement, I think I'm just meant to be like this so I can teach the world to have compassion and wake up.🤘

"Something that does not work for someone with a disability, should not work for anyone" So since I am inconvenienced by my disability everyone should be as well. This is the thought process that makes the ADA need to be rethought. There is to much scamming and fraud around the lawsuits these frauds perpetrate on businesses. Example. NYC had to make all the buses ADA compliant. Few to no ADA people use the buses. Upon review it was determined NYC would have saved money by buying every ADA person a car and supplying a driver. #2 Europe has sidewalk toilets. Self-cleaning and "handy". NYC was forbidden to use them because ADA forbids them because not "everyone" could use them. SO EVERYONE HAS TO SUFFER for the few who most likely would never even have come across one. I have been sued numerous times by these charlatans and grifters. It is not about access, its about money. They straight up admitted it. Want to see scam artists. Look up the ADA lawsuits in your area. Not about access. They are just out for settlements cause they don't even care if you fix anything. They ask for money not for you to fix the problem.

It would be another five years before we got our Disability Discrimination Act 1995 in the U.K., that’s now part of the Equality Act 2010. Neither of which are as stringent as your Act, sign height is just one area I can think of. America should give itself a big pat on the back as being a world leader is disability law. Before becoming disabled myself I worked in forensic learning disabilities and again all the innovations came out of America. "Even though everyone can use a ramp not everyone can use the stairs." Really? I can't use a ramp for going up as I've nerve damage in and around my extremely asthmatic lungs. That’s the problem with disabilities, there’s no one size fits all. When fixing a problem for one person you are often creating another for other people.

It was but it was weakly enforced since in the 60s attitudes towards the disabled weren’t as kind. Plus it didn’t require businesses to accommodate people with disabilities, and employ them with those accommodations. The ADA helped with that.

what disability do you have that prevents you from wearing a mask? I suffer from Sleep apnea, environmental asthma, chronic bronchitis and COPD. I have no issues wearing a mask, no drop in my oxygen levels. I am more at risk from Covid killing me than the mask.
