Jose, age 26, thought he was perfectly healthy when he stopped by his doctor's office to pick up the results of a blood test, but he soon learned that he was very ill. After extensive testing, doctors determine that Jose has both lupus and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), a dangerous clotting disorder. To learn more about TTP and other blood disorders, visit ASH's patient resources webpage hematology.org/Patients/.

My mom was diagnosed with TTP in 2003. She had epilepsy, seizures and at least once a week needed plasmapheresis. She fought going in and out of the hospital for 9 years. She died in 2013 just before her 36th birthday. It was very traumatic for me growing up having to watch my mom go through all of that. It’s almost been 8yrs that she’s been gone and it’s like I never had a mom cus all my memories of her are so blurry.

It is truly a blessing that more information is now available about TTP. I was diagnosed in 1988, very little was known then. It took 3 months for a diagnosis (I had migraine headaches, bruising, and multiple mini-strokes). I was given a 10% chance of survival. By the grace of God, it's 25 years later and I'm still here. There is still much to learn about this rare condition.

I was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 16 I am now 49 and suffer from TTP, as well as APLS which is another form of lupus. I'm on approximately 34 medications including blood thinners but once you have it managed you can have a good life. In the 32 years I've had these diseases it has come along way with the technology. I was in the guinea pig stages but I'm happy to say I got married and I have five beautiful daughters that are in their late and mid 20"s and still are negative for the disease. I have had them tested every year at their physicals since they were around 10. Good luck and have a happy happy life. One thing that helped me get through was the belief that I controlled the disease it did not control me. God Bless

I found out 19 days ago that I have TTP. My doctor found this video and told me to watch it. It was very informative. I like the animations. It is frustrating to me that they don't know the cause. Live each day to its fullest!!

Heartbreaking this is what my youngest sister had and passed in 2001 age 23 to find now there is more help, brilliant but wish it was this advanced for her, and she would still be here, back then her treatment was terrible she could be home but would have to return every other day sometimes every day to have treatment, she was an amazing person and lived with this for 18months till it took her, her body gave out with all the treatment and she had a heart attack

My son was just diagnosed with this last week at 21 and it was a shock as I have never heard of it even working in the medical field for 17yrs. My family and I are tremendously grateful to all the doctors and nurses at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto for seeing what the problem was in 2hrs. He was a normal healthy young guy no under lining health issues and all of a sudden one night he started feeling sick, tired, migraines, dizziness and couldn't even make a fist.

I was diagnosed with systemic lupus in 1991. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogrens, and narcolepsy. And I found out I have Von Willebrands disease in 1994. Several months ago I got a strange non-itchy rash on my lower legs. I've never heard of TTP or Purpura until today. I stumbled on them while researching, trying to figure out what the rash could be. I'll be calling my hematologist on Monday. 😕

I have TTP too. Thank you for making this incredible film, it brought tears to my eyes. This disease is so rare and so you don't see publicity like this. I shared this with my friends. It is difficult to diagnose TTP so it's important to spread the word.

I wish id known about this illness before i lost my son to this two and a half years ago he was only thirty. His life may have been saved if people had known more about it.He died out of blue without warning leaving four children behind.I think this illness should be exposed to the general public worldwide as should sickle cell(my husband is hbss)which is full blown sickle cell.
