As a young child, Alexandria, now age 17, endured near-constant feelings of exhaustion and general sickness, which turned into severe pain at night. After experiencing a "silent stroke" as a young girl, Alexandria was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, a disease in which the blood cells become deformed and unable to function properly. To learn more about SCA and other blood disorders, visit ASH's patient resources webpage hematology.org/Patients/.
This clip was excerpted from the documentary film "Blood Detectives." To learn more about the film, visit www.hematology.org/Publication...

Well, I have sickle cell anemia as well, SS type and I will be 35 in November, and what I know for sure is that God's stregth is made perfect in my weakness, so when I'm exhausted which is most of the time, I endure, and when I am in pain and suffering I pray and Christ strengthens me to endure through the pain. Getting angry at God will never help, but trusting Him will. I will live to see my grandkids and I will not forsake Christ and He won't forsake me. Forget the statistics, try Christ.

My son is five they say he have Sickle Cell Disease. He had no crisis's. The doctor told me he had the worse causes of sickle cell Disease. When he was one he would be very sick. I reject every bad report. I only believe the report of the Lord. My son is healthy. Just turn five over the weekend. I gave a testimony on my channel. To show of God goodness and grace on our life. I feed him healthy, I pray and I fast.

I had a friend die from this recently. He was 24, and it was very sudden. He was like a brother to me. I wish he'd told me the toll this disease took on him, but I think he just wanted me to treat him like everyone else. I wish he'd let me help him.

I have this disease. I’m 14 and i never understood how my illness worked. Now that i’m older and mature, i finally understand how this affects my life. I can’t do things that my friends can do. I cant push myself into doing physical activities. My illness was so bad when i was younger. I was going to the hospital every week because of my pain. It hurts a lot, it really does. I try to hide my pain so no one would worry. Every time i’m in a crisis, i go straight to my mother.

I too live with Sickle Cell Disease...it is a struggle as we all know. I am now 28 and still have a hard time accepting it. So many people are uneducated on this disease. They don't understand the level of pain and struggle one goes through. I have been told many times 'you don't look sick'. Those words are irritating. I may not look sick at that particular moment but I am. I have learned to keep God first through my hard times. I pray for each of you. Xoxoxo

My boyfriend currently has sickle cell anaemia. It’s the most heartbreaking thing to hear/see a love one go through. I wish there was something I could do to change and remove his pain/disease. I know there is a bone marrow transplant, but I don’t think it’s open to adults...
