Just repaired 2 500s this week. Both had faulty floppy drives. 1 needed a recap and heads cleaning, the other needed a thorough clean as it was disgusting inside including the heads. Both work 100% now so time for some upgrades.

3:39 just replace c08, c09 etc, it worked for me.

0:46 never tried it, but I read about a warm bath (30-35 Celsius, not more to not damage it) for a bit (10-15 minutes, or more if needed). It would make the cable rubber soft again without damages. No connector should be submerged. Just water, no soap.

I got rid of the RF shield on my A500 because almost all the tabs where broken.

Guess what. You can use that faulty CIA in your 1571 disk drive. The 1571 only needs the serial shift part of the CIA and faulty i/o ports won't be a problem.

Great video , thanks a lot for sharing this ! I was hunting amiga 1200 here in the states and didn't manage to find any for reasonable price so ordered John "Chucky" Hertell's re-amiga PCB, but now looking at that PCB I understand that I won't be able to assemble it because I'm not very experienced and not all components are available. Maybe one day I'll buy some Amiga (A500 at least) but for now will keep exploring amiga on my mister fpga :)

Damn that sucks. But at least you have the MiSTer so no need it worry about it breaking down all the time 😅

@MrTGuru thank you :) but I ordered not recapped and yellow-ish A1200 from Netherlands (found it in one of those online retro shops of theirs) however I plan to do some development so will be using emu anyway

@MrTGuru yeah I understand. I got some basic skills and keep learning (from @TheRetroChannel and other). By now I repaired several machines: couple C64, an old Timex Sinclair (actually I reworked it slightly to be 16kb instead of 2kb :) ), two C+4 and 1541 floppy drive. Currently I'm recapping PVM 1342Q. As to Amiga ... will see. Anyway I paid for it already ($435) :) I may regret that later.

Great video very helpful. I have faulty floppy drive , was playing games but now just tries to boot then nothing. Plugged in gotek thats fine .plugged drive in a600 and doesnt load Id love to get a copy of that dionostics disk, id be happy to pay

A quick google shows there are a few places selling the floppy. Just search for Amiga test kit floppy

Seen that same problem on the Keyboard PCB. I disconnected the connector, reconnected it and it started working again. But 6 months in storage and it stopped working again. You didn't replace the Eject button on the Epsom Floppy?

Interesting. I hope this one continues to work but I might poke at it a little more to see if it starts playing up. As for the eject button, I'll get back to that, need to give the case a bath first

Incredible video and thank you..i own 2 amiga500s..one of them is missing the eject button on the internal drive..the drive works perfectly but using a screwdriver is not the best method of ejecting disks..any advice please.?...thanks again.,

There are 3d printable eject buttons for some of the Amiga drives, I'd google your drive model and "eject button" and see what comes up.

Damn I was hoping for indeepth repair of the disk drive 1 of mine doesn't work

Lucky for me I the drive wasn't the issue, but unlucky for you I guess. If you have another A500 it is worth swapping the drives around just to be sure the fault is with the drive.
