Through a drafting mechanism, the players select location cards and place them on their station, scoring victory points based on where they place them. Among the Stars plays 2 - 4 in 30 minutes.

This game definitely needs an expansion, preferably the Ambassadors expansion. Not only do the ambassadors themselves give you cool powers, the variety of extra buildings is huge. You can make a different deck each time, which really changes up how the game feels. I couldn't imagine playing this with just the base deck anymore.

This is my favourite game right now, but I would never play the aggressive mode or the base game on its own. The Ambassadors is a must-have expansion which also mitigates Kaja's complaint providing a lot of interaction to the game. The expansions also add variable set-up, thanks to them we never play the same game twice, and we do not even own Expanding the Alliance. Revival will bring some even further PvP where you can place space ships into other player's space stations and mass with them a little bit. Thanks for the excellent review. :)

I was initially insulted at how absurdly exact the rules were copied from 7 wonders. However, this game is one of my biggest go to game. It teaches much faster than 7W, the 2d building adds more variety, and the card mechanisms are more diverse.

I had similar feelings about this game. The rounds became repetitive, even during the first play. I had hoped it would have some kind of difficulty ramp up as the rounds went on, but it was pretty much the same thing for four rounds. Not bad, but not exciting either.
