Just wondered what it would look like if i changed the oil. Added new fresh oil and engine flush then changed the oil again. This is on a Nissan NV200 with a 2.0 liter.
Pretty fun experiment

I did an experiment on my Ranger last weekend. I put new oil in it with a new filter, drove it a mile, and when I drained it it was was black too. I guess the bottle of flush is cheaper, but I had extra quarts of oil laying around. It's surprising how much oil doesn't drain out when we change it!!

I would like to say, I have seen people do multiple oil changes and even after a couple miles of driving the oil comes out pitch black. I know it sounds almost impossible, but if you are a mechanic I am sure you have seen this. To be fair, we would need to see a before and after to see how this flush works. Also to note, i dont doubt amsoil, ive been using it on all my cars for nearly 6 years.

See my post. Yes 10-20% of old oil remains in any modern engine. This causes the new oil to darken. Yes, the Bearded Ford Tech knows this. Been using Amsoil for 35+ years.
@tssci6774
@tssci6774 3 ай бұрын
@BeardedFordTech wrong, it only takes a few ounces of oxidized, contaminated oil to make it look dark, and affect that new oil. In a average engine we are talking 16-32 ounces of old oil. Google "Perils of short volume oil changes" by a leader in Machinery lubrication business.
@BeardedFordTech
@BeardedFordTech 3 ай бұрын
@tssci6774 there is not 10-20% left in the engine. Yes I know there is oil in there that mixes when you change it. The flush took out a lot of it is what this video was about. Literally went over this with lake speed jr who is a certified lubrication specialist and used oil analyzer. He's on my channel a lot. He was on livestream last night. I love seeing people put the Mercury Villager 3.3L Motorcraft filter on Nissan engines. It's probably better than most current OEM NIssan filters. Older Nissan filters were built like tanks. If you want to see one, you can order one for a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo.

Why didn;t you use the Amsoil filter instead of the Motorcraft? The Amsoil filter is superior to the Motorcraft. The number for the Amsoil Filter of r this application is a EA15K12 and is designed for extended service lift. For those that do not know, modern oil filter testing is not judged by micron size. but it is a time/weight test to calculate the amount of contaminants being removed while is service. The old filtration method of micron size is what caused filter to plug up and run with the bypass flowing dirty engine oil.
@BeardedFordTech
@BeardedFordTech 2 ай бұрын
I know what number it is. And I stated below why I didn't use one. Because I ran out. Hard to use them if I didn't have any. I have a lot of the motorcraft ones. Motorcraft filters do just was well with amsoil. I've tested three different kind. Amsoil, purolator boss, motorcraft. Allnhad the same results. Doesn't use micron rating? Is thay why amsoil tells you the filtering capacity by mjcronnrating. Even for the bypass system? Micron rating is used in modern oil filter testing. You can even ask lake speed jr the motor oil geek. We have been over this. We talk microns a lot

As in accordance with industry-standard ISO SO 4548-12, the AMSOIL Oil Filter has a very high efficiency rating of 99% at 20 microns, which helps to filter out abrasive wear-causing contaminants to a very high degree, extending engine life. Looks like the Amsoil engine flush did its job. I had to back up the video to make sure my ears and eyes weren't deceiving me. Try as you might, installing a Motorcraft filter on a Nissan won't make a difference. You'll still be stuck with a Nissan in the end. How do I know? I installed used Motorcraft wiper blades off of a Raptor on the GMC pickup. The next morning I still had a GMC pickup. I did however have a clear windshield when it rained. 🙂🙂

Adding Seafoam in the oil 200-300 miles before changing the oil works great. I think you’re wasting oil doing it that way.
@BeardedFordTech
@BeardedFordTech 5 ай бұрын
This was just experimenting. You don't do it this way. You put it in let it run for 15 min and change the oil and filter then off you go. There's a reason seafoam has you drive like 200-300 miles. Cause it sucks and doesn't work. You have to use a lot of it multiple times.

There are two types of engine flushes. 1. Solvent based 2. Detergent based Solvent based flushes are inexpensive and are not designed to liquefy sludge and hold it in suspension. Many engines have been blown up by adding solvent based flushes and as a result large chunks of sludge break loose which stop the oil pump pickup tube up and loosing oil pressure. Any flush that reeks of a kerosene smell has a solvent formulation. Detergent based flushes are designed to liquify sludge and hold it in suspension in the oil until it is drained out. Many detergent flushes are intentionally designed to work slowly over time to prevent the possibility of the oil pickup stopping up. Amsoil and Liqui-Moly use a detergent based formulation. I have used them both and I think it Amsoil flush has a slight edge over Liqui-Moly. In my shop I have seen an increased need for periodic flushes because of customers who follow the oil life monitor. 10-12K mile oil changes are not a good idea for customers using whatever bulk oil that the shop uses.

I've been using Amsoil for 35 years, great stuff, never had an oil or sludge, wear. related problem in any engine or transmission. Based on the numerous comments, a lot viewers believe this flush actually did something. It didnt. I am an electrical, mechanical engineer, worked in the auto service industry, and started rebuilding engines in 1984. The flush is simply mineral spirits and some group1 base oil. Unless your engine is filled top to bottom with sludge, it will not have any affect. 10-20% of old oil remains in modern engines and you know that. All it takes is 1/4qt of old, sooty oil to make the new oil that dark. Had you opened that filter, you would have no sludge in it. Last year, I tried multiple engine flushes, including Amsoil. I flushed the engine 2x with clean oil, running it 15 min each time. I sampked the oil for analysis. I put the engine flush in, ran it for 30 minutes, drained it and sampled it again. The engine had 190k miles, there was visible varnish, and hard sludge under the cam cover. Oil analysis showed no addition particulates, carbon, varnish, or anything else. The filter also showed no contaminents. Only in extreme cases will these flushes help. Doing a clean oil flush, several oil changes in a year will definate help, is much safer, and the new oil will be able to clean and protect much better. Here is a great article discussing the perils of short volume oil changes. www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/31012/short-volume-oil-changes

It cleaned some of the varnish. I never said it cleaned sludge. I never said the engine had sludge. And yes I k ow there is still old oil in the engine. I've done a lot of research on oil. I'm also friends with the owner of speed diagnostix which is a used oil analysis company. We have been over this many many times. It depends on how you drive and operating g conditions for how far you can go. If you have been using amsoil for so long. Then please don't come on here bashing saying a product did nothing about cleaning g sludge etc etc when the word sludge was never used. This was literally me having a bottle of fresh oil laying g around looking at a bottle of engine flush I had sitting there wondering how dark the oil would be after 15 min. Obviously I know it would be dark. But I wanted to see how dark. If any carbon deposits came out stuff like that. Just an experiment. By far not an actual test.
@tssci6774
@tssci6774 5 ай бұрын
@@BeardedFordTech varnish is baked on residues of oxidized oil and contaminates. Anyone who has rebuilt engines knows it requires high pressure and chemical baths such as hot tanks to remove or physical abrasive contact. Sludge on the handle can be remove often with solvent rinses. You never mentioned varnish in the video and only pointed to the obviously dark oil that it supposedly works. Amsoil makes an superior oil, but the additives such ad PI and Flush are mostly worthless.
