Railfan window view on the former CB&Q main line (now BNSF) from Chicago Union Station to Lisle, IL. Filmed on June 19, 2014, heading west on train #5. Unfortunately, the window was filthy! Be sure to watch in 1080 hi def.

I've done this ride from Chicago to Denver and back several times ... lovely way to travel ... makes me homesick for it, if there's a such thing as being homesick for a train ride!

I knew the AT&SF (Santa Fe) RR main line ran behind St Anthony Hospital seen here at 8:10. This video shows just that!! Except, Dearborn Station in Chicago, where the SF terminated, was closed in the early 1970's and the terminus moved to Union Station. A memory for me was hearing steam trains passing by the hospital during the night. I was in the boys ward as hospitalized in 1957 and the ward was at the rear of the hospital facing the tracks. It was 4 tracks there and still is.

I thought this line was referred to as the "Racetrack". It seems on this day that it should be referred to as a "snail's pace". When I rode the Denver Zephyr in 1967, we were on the middle track and flying out of town.

Heavy Train Traffic. Plus this train was following Metra 1233 for a while until an opportunity to switch to the middle track and pass it. 1233 makes all station stops. Passed it at LaGrange Stone Ave. Switched Tracks at Brookfield/Congress Park switches. Switched back to Westbound Track at Fairview Ave.

I worked in Cicero back in 1988 at the CB&Q (BN) container terminal The trains seems to be faster back then The commuter trains going past the yard would be braking hard , the wheels ringed with fire from the iron brake shoes I miss it like I miss cancer

+Crusader1815 I am thinking that either the washer does not hit that part well, or that the lexan gets pitted from ballast being "sucked up" in the slipstream?

You do realize you can film a *forward*-moving train by riding Metra trains inbound to Chicago, right?

Yes I know that. However, it is rare that I ride Metra since I don't live in the Chicago area.

I have NEVER been on an Amtrak train where the windows are clean. I think they spray crap on them just because.

You are lucky. I don't remember clean windows, usually hazy at best, outright dirty at worst.

Well, the stewardesses try to make you sit and fasten your seat belts for takeoff, but sometimes you can sneak back to the back like this.
