This is a teaser for an upcoming KZfaq series. Amtrak trains along the Northeast Corridor (Northeast Regional and Acela trains) in both directions currently share track on the Hell Gate Line between New Rochelle and New York Penn Station for rehabilitation work.

From the end of the Civil War until the completion of Hoover Dam -- between 1865 and 1935 -- the largest construction project in the United States was the Pennsylvania Railroad's construction of the "New York Connecting Railroad". The New York Connecting Railroad required the the construction of the tunnels beneath the Hudson, Penn Station, the Hotel Pennsylvania, the Hellgate Bridge, and the train tracks from Jersey through Manhattan and Queens and beyond. It was a very big deal.

2:12 was really hoping they’d start to replace those switches with concrete ones during the single tracking… Hopefully once the open the bypass on the left of the screen they’ll start to replace them

I know when m8 goes down that line it will be like a shuttle from new Rochelle to Penn just like lirr did from Jamaica to gcm

It looks like this line originally had 4 tracks, so why did they take 2 of them out of service in the first place?

Pretty sure some tracks is used for freight rail.

Actually it originally had 6 tracks. You can see that 6 tracks can actually fit in the hells gate line

@@aqua2poweros699 Yes that I remember, and adding MNRR service to Penn Station is going to be wild just seeing M8s roll back and forth on that Hell Gate!!
