I really enjoy this game though share many of your sentiments - it's quite an eclectic mix of auctions and area control mechanisms. To think this is 20 years old, yet will probably feel fresh to any new players, speaks volumes for how solid Knizia's designs are. While I'd also pick Ra or, perhaps bizarrely, Cyclades over it (I love the simultaneous auction mechanic), I'm really glad Amun-Re hasn't been forgotten about.

Just received my KS copy of Amun Re. I really enjoy auction/bidding games like Raccoon Tycoon, Modern Art, High Society. Hope this lives up to my expectations but going by your review it may fall a tad short. Still excited to get it to the table though

Since you recently got Ra from UKGE, please share your review about the same. With respect to Amen Re, I feel Ra is a much better bidding game than this one. Also, the mechanism of keeping the stuff on the board and re-start again is there in Blue Lagoon (again by Dr Knizia).

Nice video- when explaining the bid you say that you have to move the scribe to a new location if you have been outbid- rather don't you have to use another scribe to bid in a different location? would the bidding turn not be near infinite if you moved the same scribe every time?

I haven't played Amun Re in quite a while. When games have such a 'luck of the draw element', I like to try a community 'river draft' as a means to neutralise/minimise the luck factor - not sure if it would work here.

This game would be fenomenal if the auction for the terrains was tighter and the cards for points wasn’t so random.
