Typically they will give you a paper with very broad questions. A example 1 drug use or 2 theft, and you will check a box, yes I will answer these questions truthfully. You are not hooked up for this. They will then interview you for maybe hours and you are not hooked up at this time either. During that interview in regards to question 1 drug use, they may ask you endless questions. Do you smoke weed, when was the last time, have you ever, how often. Do you use crack, have you ever, when was the last time ect ect ect. You are NOT hooked up to the machine for any of this. They will then hook you up to the machine and ask you, "yes or no did you answer question 1 truthfully"

Well-edited videos, unlike polygraph results, aren't evidence. "But they aren't admissible in court!" They are in civil court, if both sides agree. "But polygraphs can be faked!" Everything can be faked, but polygraphs are hard to pass if you're lying. That's... kinda the point. "She believes she didn't steal jokes. That's how she passed." Well, then, she didn't steal them, unless you're saying she subconsciously stole them. If that's true, you're criticizing her subconscious. That's.... weird.

People are so naive. It's not like they could have agreed beforehand to not out her as a joke thief before she came on. That was probably a stipulation on Amy's end for her to even agree to come on. That's literally a calibration question, not sure the exact term polygraph administers use, but other testing does this to make sure the equipment is working right or needs calibration, to make sure it isn't a false positive/negative, to make sure the participant understands the assignment, to make sure the participant isn't lying and getting away with it (you'll see this with psych evals where the same question is often repeated throughout the test in various ways to trip you up). Think, do all criminals like the color grey? Then you'd be asked sometime later, criminals tend to have an unusual favorite color because the top three liked colors are red, blue, ... green (I dunno). Then it'd be asked a different way again, probably with grey in it again. Depends on if the test is checking for competency too, an incompetent person would likely get the first one right, fail the second repeat due to no grey and maybe get the third (also testing memory depending on length of test and time between repeat questions). But that also shows the examiner that the participant failed the understanding part. I could see someone perhaps throwing out a n-n-no then immediately self correcting with a yes especially after answering a few nos in a row. Amy tentatively said no. It wasn't enthusiastic (i.e. bland, flat, lifeless like her other answers). Not to mention polygraph tests also do the same thing with asking the same question over and over again to figure out the 'truth'. Polygraph tests are a sham, but was this even a real polygraph test? I can't imagine any examiner to be like "Yeah, that's fine leave it in the video," or at least suggesting rather sternly "retake and make sure Amy understands not to just say no." A good examiner can steer a polygraph test to get essentially any result they want.
