The worst part about this is that it's true in a way, after WW1 many people would tell their experiences just like this game. Many people did what our character did at the end, that just goes to show you that the psychological trauma isn't just in the game but it's a real thing.

The idea that A LOT of these soldiers were mostly 18-early 20s makes it even more heart wrenching. I can’t imagine having this kind of experience so young, and be in my 60s or 70s and still so vividly remember this. No wonder so many veterans couldn’t speak of their experiences until decades later, if that. Brilliant game and unfortunately horrendously good representation of reality.

I remember going on school trips to Belgium and Germany. We went to cemeteries of fallen WWI soldiers and battlefields in Belgium. The cemeteries had a peaceful but heavy feeling, like walking in an empty room with nothing but an old tv playing static and that classic high pitched drone those old cathode-ray tube TVs make. The battlefields felt more violent, like being on a mountain path with high winds. The worst was the concentration camps in Germany. It was like walking under a giant dome, even the birds stopped singing. It was the most intense sense of dread Id ever felt. Seeing this game, I get it now.

This game is not only horrifying to watch and play, but also heartbreaking. This soldier represented in this game has seen Hell and worse. The symbolism that this game has in representation of the soldier’s story is extremely well done (the monster is the wife that he killed, head and arms chopped off. The babies represent his children that he killed). Overall, this game reveals the dark truth behind war and the psychological affects it has on people. Incredible story and incredible horror. I think those factors (along with others) are where alleged paranormal experiences originate when taking about combat/conflicts. Our brains and bodies can only handle so much.

I think the principle of this game's monster horror is that it *doesn't* catch you. Tension is built by the player waiting for the end to come, to which it never does. This concept connects well with the way that soldiers of the time *knew,* or at least were very sure that they would die. Not a question of *if,* but a question of *when.*

What makes the game scarier is the fact that eventhough this is a game, it does in somewhat portray and give us a clear idea of what soldiers during and after 1914 - 1918 would've likely experienced. As we see many of them suffered psychological issues such as PTSD in the form of shell shock and i their reality probably wasn't that much different from the game itself. Voices, paranoia etc. Only difference is they probably didn't kill their own family, though that is possible. Sad but true.

@@shlapmcknuts767 I don’t think it’s that they don’t want too, I think it’s that they can’t. I have three reasons but I know there are more. Just read the first sentence, if you don’t feel like reading it all though you may miss some details for some, I think others are self explanatory. 1. Players have innate disassociation. We don’t put ourselves in that character because we don’t see our complete selves in that character. Just a preset person with general similarities to a majority of people. That would interfere with the story telling and the effect would be reduced a lot. 2. The way games build drama is too hard to match the real thing. In real life you’ve probably known these people for years in game a few minutes to hours. Games try to “make” you like a character you don’t build it up yourself. 3. The way to make it the most accurate might be too taxing irl people. For the game to have best effect it’d require seeking out war vets for interviews. Depending on the vet they could shut down, get defensive, or answer questions revisiting those moments. The last thing vets want on their mind is what they’ve seen and done. 4. In game world building. You can’t just throw someone in a war you have to build to it and create mindset for the player to adapt onto themselves first, otherwise they’d disassociate from it. Let’s use black ops for example. We kills hundreds without seeing anything psychological or distressing. For some people that might be just too much. And you can’t have some lore drop in the beginning either. Although I think it’s possible but not with the way games are now. Best bet is VR.

@@LegosR4Adlts i think cod waw is a good example the gameplay is the same as most other cods and you dont feel anything psychologically troubling in the gameplay, but the overall tone of the game and the use of real life war footage really helped it have that bitter feeling to it, i havent played Waw in over 5 years and i still remember the mission where the soviet troops were executing unarmed injured germans and putting surrendered soldiers in front of firing squads.
@LegosR4Adlts
@LegosR4Adlts 2 жыл бұрын
@@shlapmcknuts767 If you’re talking tone yes some cods are good models. But for a game about war to be even slightly close to the real deal and not just another war game, it’d need effect, power, as well as tone. Look at Spec Ops the Line. Yea it doesn’t have the specific type of world building I was talking but it has effect and power along side it’s tone. It was everywhere for awhile, so I trust you know what I’m talking about. If not watch gameplay or better yet find some lore channels if there are any. I don’t actually know good lore channels tend to be a solar system away from the last. Edit: I forgot to mention that that is also a good example of effect and power. As it stuck with you. We need stuff like that. Wether it’s a good moment, or bad. But games are so exaggerated most of the time that who knows if it can even be pulled off. Writers are the core problem mostly, then animators. And finally VA’s. Get that and you’re set. For the most part.

You're literally playing a game where the guy is trapped in his own personal hell. Think about the "thing" that chases him throughout the trenches and what he did after the war. When you "escape" and come back to the main menu to start again, that's just another round of his hell starting all over.

I haven’t even watched the full video of this and I can tell the person who made this game is a genius when it comes to horror games. The blinking made it much more intense and real feeling. Then they specifically made sure to cater to the fact that stalking can often be more creepy than being jump scared and used that along with jump scared. Then the baby crying adds a sense of insecurity and an unsafe feeling because generally a baby crying is fear and a scream creates fear because we all know what we are capable of subconsciously and so the screaming makes you feel unsafe because you know you are in danger because someone of a likely equal level is in danger. Then humanoid figures are one of the most disturbing things to people because it’s human to us but we can tell it’s not and so it adds fear there’s a whole research about it and it’s why people are commonly scared of clowns. Then a confined space to add a feeling of being trapped and a fear of no escape. Then Also the rain and thunder is generally associated with death because of movies always having it being rainy when they have a death and funeral. It’s just an ingenious game that truly is likely to scare anyone who plays it. Then the curtains that you hide in are destroyed somewhat adding a feeling of destruction and everything. Then the man screaming is much more terrifying than a woman because it’s deeper and men are less likely to be scared than a woman because society makes a lot of men suppress feelings. Not being sexist if some of y’all think that. Oh an also the voice being slightly off when it says help me daddy and you can tell it’s not a normal person.

This is the first horror video I've watched that I genuinely noticed myself literally hanging off the edge of my couch watching. Just intensely staring at my tv then having a heart attack when my mother came out asking what I wanted for dinner 😂😂

Omggggg I kept jumping so bad I dropped my phone…one time on my face 🤦🏼‍♀️. I was so freaking itchy the whole video (I get itchy when I’m anxious/scared)…that was BRUTAL, but such a great game. As always, great video & thank you!!! 💕
