My thing is, this is where (as the series progressed) this is where she stemmed her anger from. She initially thought Rhaenyra "slept" with Daemon. Meaning her virtue was TAKEN/GIVEN to Daemon. Main point, it was Daemon she thought. Which Rhaenyra actually told the truth about.. BUT then she found out that it was taken/given to the knight NOT Daemon. So in actuality, it was true she didn't sleep with Daemon but the knight. So why was she so adamant in raging war towards Rhaenyra? Why? Was it because Rhaenyra lost her "virtue" to a younger and handsome man instead of an old man like she did? Was it because she lost her "friend"? WHAT? Because last I checked, Rhaenyra was the one that lost and was BETRAYED BY HER OWN FRIEND to her being her STEP MOTHER.. Rhaenyra was nothing but truthful and loyal to her as her friend only to find out last minute that her "friend" was going to marry her father.. Or maybe I saw it wrong. But as of now, that's how I think about it, or maybe that's what the producers were trying to portray. Anyhoots.. Toodloo..lol

Rewatching this scene a couple of times really goes to show that neither of these two were completely in the right or wrong. Rhaenyra here is using her status to hopefully shield her from having to confront these treacherous “slanders”, and even swearing on her mother that her virtue is still intact. Alicent likely didn’t know at the time she would do this, but she really had the nerve to judge Targaryens when she would do the exact same thing: betrothing her daughter to her son

I felt a little bad for Alicient in this scene. She was stuck in an arranged marriage while her friend has all the freedom to do whatever she wants but later on when Alicient covers her son's deeds, I felt she just became a hypocrite of sorts.

How ever corlys, viserys and Tywin used their children without any consideration, viserys relied on the prophesy of prince that was promised (song of ice and fire) and I’m 100% sure in his last talk before he died with Alicent, when he said aegon’s name as the promised prince he meant Rhaenyra’s and daemon’s so Aegon (who becomes king), and what he meant to tell her meant he trusted her with the truth and he knew that Alice do what is right and act by kindness and truthfully to serve the realm and keep it together, unlike her father (who only act to his profit and thinks he’s smart and powerful unlike the truth he never knew that winter is coming), and help Rhaenyra and make sure Aegon sits on the ironthrown, make amends with Rhaenyra and guide her to unify and to go over petty politics and acknowledge that there is a deadly enemy in the north which your father saw in his last dream,a more clear vision with dangerous enemy, prophecy of song of ice and fire.but she misunderstood because of he wasn’t clear. (I’m sure he didn’t trust to tell her for some years, because after he fired otto for misguiding and incomplete report he also realised his marriage was another political gain for Otto he became suspicious of alicent’s love. plus the fact they haven’t seen baby Aegon before and they met him for the first time in kings final days, but no one paid no mind because everyone’s belief were her mother’s a whore and daemon was passionately hated because he never showed his amazing side and I believe he did it on purpose and in his mind by acting that way he was trying to even the disrespect and accusations he received because he had amazing goals and sitting on the ironthrone wasn’t his first dream, at list until he achieved his dreams and goals which were always power and knowledge of how to find great dragons without riders and credibility and power. He never wanted to be king, that was a joke for him, being heir to ironthrone was his safety low point for him. He wanted to concur more worlds to show he is as powerful as Aegon the conqueror and show off his power to his brother because he loved him and he felt that he was in a competition with Viserys as a brother, and demise thepeople who disrespected him and tried to ruin his reputation many times and trust and triggered him to act as an unjust and barbaric person so the king will also despise him and reject him and only because his claim was strong and he could be their doom.because he was extremely experienced in combat and battle and believed in the fact that men and women were more equals in his mind (at list the important one’s).when he got dethroned of iron throne, he got angry and felt betrayed and tried to make everyone miserable, as he felt the same and also triggered his enemies to make them loose control and show their true faces to his brother to see there are leaches and useless people at his court so he could get a chance to expose them, mostly Otto Hightower who gave the word of daemon’s insult and behaviour to Viserys who lost his only hope, his son,his newborn child and butchered his wife for his final hope in his mind. I bet otto was dreaming and praying for this moment so he could have more power and a bond to royal family, was madly happy because then it was the greatest accident that could happen to him because his plans could begin immediately without anyone noticing.so he trained his daughter and used her and made her a queen which she never wanted and I bet by his dad’s command she had babies to ensure her place immediately. ( children, specially the ones from important lines and royalties were like investment, assets to fix problems), daemon was celebrating for officially becoming first to the line, allegedly but also as he said people cope with tragedy and loss in different ways but it feels that he did it with selfish intentions when his brother lost his love and a hope of his line of succession and his wife in one day which he was to blame for if he wasn’t persistent of having a boy at cost of risking your wife’s health when she lost many children. Corlys gambled his dynasty and family and everything to set his wife on the throne. Tywin unlike corlys did everything to gain power and money in the name of his house and thought his children the same. Even in their time they are not all good and they embrace hunger for power and ironethrone.

Everyone commeting on here seems to forget that Alicent believed Rhaenyra and defended her, to the point that got her own father fired from the council, and later found out that Rhaenyra lied to her. I don't like the greens but she had every right to be mad at that point

I read somewhere that on the book Alicent and Daemon had a thing before she married the king , this would make sense why she believed it happened because it happened to her

People need to put their feelings aside. Remember that Ned Stark was considered Jon Snow’s father, regardless of what theory you believe. And him having a bastard is a stain on his honor. He was in love with Ashara Dayne beforehand but was forced to marry Catelyn to save Robert Baratheon from Jon Connington and his army. And in that deal Lysa Arryn, who was not a maiden was bargained off to Jon Arryn because she was soiled by little finger. Same thing when Robb Stark wedded Jeyne Westerling. He took her maidenhood and married her because she would have been shamed and dishonored. No Lord or Lady of Westeros would’ve accepted Rhaenyra for their Heirs because she’s not virtuous because of the rumors. It’s an insult to honor and customs. Even Harry Harding aka Harry the heir is judge for sleeping around and having children out of wedlock. Rumors of her not being a maiden wouldve turned the houses against her and bereft her of allies and suitable matches. Just like Lollys Stokeworth as well, her maidenhood was taken forcefully unfortunately during the riot of king’s landing which was why Bron was eligible to marry her because a Knight was the best she could’ve gotten

my whole thing about this scene is she goes on to say Targaryns are weird in their ways, talking about how they have been incest in the past. she straight downs them for that and then marries her children, brother and sister together so they could rule.

But yet everyone says Alicent is the bad person. Whilst Rhaenyra lied off the tip of her tongue through a whole speech whilst swearing on her mother… Alicent tried to help her and she did, she got her father sent away because she reaffirmed the Rhaenyra and said she was still a maiden. She later found out Rhaenyra lied about all of it. Daemon did touch her, and Cole took her virginity.

And that judging woman is the mother of Aegon II Targaryen 🙃🙄

Alicent was bedding Daemon why she had so much emotion. She was mad at prospect of Rhynera also sleeping with him. It's a rumor in the books.

To note how big the lie was... she didn't go as far as saying she didn't sleep with Daemon, she went as far as to deny he touched her at all... on her mother's grave... THAT part was an explicit lie, and if her mother's grave isn't enough of a block of honesty to her, then nothing is. And that's without accounting for the spirit of the other lie in that she DID sleep with someone, Ser Criston Cole. Small wonder Alicent felt betrayed and lied to, and small wonder she couldn't trust Rhaenyra afterwards.

People calling her evil for lying are ignoring the fact that if she had been honest Alicent 100% would've still been mad and ruined her reputation which would lead to many lethal consequences back then, no one would've supported her claim going forward, why would she be honest? And to act like she's wrong for being intimate before marriage is just sexist and wrong, home girl just wanted to be happy.

Whether or not Daemon “touched” her isn’t the entirety of the issue. The fact she was outside of the castle and in a brothel is it’s own scandal. She’s a princess, a lady of the court, the heir to the throne…to be caught in a brothel with your twice exiled murderous uncle just invites all kinds of rumors. And while she may not have went “all the way” with Daemon, the situation was still highly inappropriate and unbecoming of her status. And let’s all not pretend like she wasn’t trying to cover up the fact she not only made out with her uncle, but also slept with her sworn sword. To admit to it would have cost her everything. So she had to lie. And she’s continued to lie in order to maintain her lifestyle of course. And that is truly her biggest flaw and quite literally her downfall.

People reducing this to Alicent just being jealous forget that Rhaenyra just came back from interrupting a trip where she could freely choose her consort, a huge privilege in those times, specially for a woman, only for this scandal to ensue the very next day. Dunno you, but I'd also feel just a tad bit punked.

If there was ever a sign that Rhaenyra is not fit for the throne, the fact that her immediate response to Alicent questioning her is to accuse her of treason is definitely it. Treason is a capital offense, she’s basically threatening Alicent with death for asking the wrong thing and showing absolutely no remorse for it.

Alicent is jealous and envious about the fact that Rhaenyra is free minded, bold and can experiment a lot of things like sex, alcohol, pleasure,etc. She resents her for her willfulness when she can’t even do this because of her education. I’m not gonna say she’s weak but more like obedient and submissive.
