The main reason I watch these is cause it's a dream to see a mechanic so dedicated on doing the job right. Hard to find a mechanic who would either know how to do it right or even take the time to do it. Thanks for showing this cause I replaced the original motor on my older Toyota and realize I probably messed up the jam protection and auto roll up.

Those threads are left uncut from the factory for a reason, very common actually, as the screws are made to cut their own thread so it’s tight on the screws and doesn’t rattle loose over the years, also hence the soft metal (think of it as a form of “loc-tite”. A lot of my snowmobile components are like that being extreme vibration and lesser chance of the fasteners comings out)

I was in in the car business for 50+ years...started out as a mechanic and it was always my first love. I retired a few years ago when I sold the 7 dealership auto group that I owned. I've done "some" of what you've done to your car when I had my 87 Ford Ranger. Many years ago I replaced front and rear lenses, front grille and emblem, some door parts to both doors, front suspension parts and other items. They all helped the truck go longer, but after several more years then at 30 total years with me and it's last smog test a failure, it was time to go. In 2020 I got the RAV4. It's a joy to drive. Thank you AMD for the engine coolant removal/replacement AND how to verify it's done correctly. It worked so easy! This year is the 8 speed automatic transmission fluid change using your instructions. However I think my XTOOL D8BT will help with that job. Your recommendation was why I bought it. Nice work on your car! Hope the future driving shows how the car can help to make it a pleasant one!

When you said Ecru is reminded me that in 1990 after the LS had been out for about 6 months there were many complaints about the Lt beige floor mats and Lexus changed to Taupe, we replaced many for free. Then in 2001 after all those Lexus engineers that were there in 1990 retired or left the Ecru showed up again ! Many complaints later changed to darker color.

I believe the screws are designed to make threads in that soft pot metal when installed. I ran into the same thing when installing a new side mirror on a BMW. The screws go in very hard the first time due to lack of threads, but make a nice thread even though they don't look like a self-tapping screw.

Pot metal is a soft, malleable metal. I think the intent of the design is for the material to be compressed outward by the screw, rather than removing material with a tap, resulting in very weak threads.

Nice job, AMD. There are two things I wanted to point out. The first is that you left a bit of the vapor barrier peeking out from behind the door card. You can see it close to the bottom corner. Don't know about you, but that would trigger my OCD. Second, maybe you did off-camera, but I would have taken a vacuum to get the little bits of remaining glass out of the door frame. That said, another entertaining video from my favorite YT mechanic. Thanks!

When I had to replace the window in my old Toyota Yaris, I also replaced the plastic vapor seal in the end, interesting that it doesn't seem to be that common even among mechanics. However, I just used some old thick plastic sheet instead of buying anything special. Worked fine as well. It's nice to see how it's properly done and that I didn't do anything wrong there. @@konstantinaleksiev6671 A quick search online of "Window Motor Lift Self Tapping" shows that the part was likely not defective, and most replacement lift motors expect self tapping screws. The problem is that the original screws were not self tapping and new self tapping screws were not provided. Perhaps later model cars that used the same lift motor used self tapping screws. Maybe there is a note somewhere saying that if you order a new motor for this model car you should order new screws also.

I'm just an old lady that enjoys watching a man work on cars. One thing I'll be picky about is..... did you vacuum the broken glass out of the door? You probably did, but it wasn't on camera. I like watching you because it's REAL, real issues to handle. Thanks!

I love the older Lexus cars. They where so beautiful. I'm a sucker for large luxury cars. A Japanese made Lexus just puts it that much more into unicorn status for me. ❤😂❤

I wish your Lexus videos are titled with :" How to fix this or that" to make it appear easily in search result in the future. This is how I found out about your channel sir.

I love this channel! I did this repair last year on my 2005 Tundra Limited. I took the easy way out and bought an entire aftermarket assembly. I spent more time trying to line up the plastic door panel clips than I did replacing the entire assembly. I also unfortunately used Gorilla Tape to hold up the window. What a pain getting the residue off the glass.

Amd, hope you vacuumed the broken glass pieces coz it will rattle and is there no need to put lubricating grease on the glass rails and regulator?

I think you'll find that the 3 motor mounting screws are meant to be self tappers and cut their own thread so there is less likelihood of them working loose with vibration.

Ahmed, I noticed , or at least I didn't see you moving a nice thick workman's knee pad around on the floor during the extended amount of time you were on your knees. I hope that you are actually using one when on your knees. I just retired from a job where I spent a lot of time servicing low shelving, and always used knee cushions. I have no knee problems yet , and I want the same for you, because you deserve it.
