Is there more to Von Kaiser than meets the eye? The second opponent from Punch-Out!! for the NES and Punch-Out!! Wii may not look like much, but he hides a surprising amount of personality. Von Kaiser is possibly one of my favorite characters in the series to be honest. He was so influential to me that, when I got my German Shepard, we literally decided to call him Kaiser after him. Von Kaiser has made such an impact to me I swear to God LMAO

5:30 That haircut is similar to a military haircut. Short, precise and straight to the point. What we see here is Von Kaiser getting back to his former Glory. He is preparing for War and I assume this is as close as we can get to Prime Kaiser. This would also kind of imply that he is a war veteran, but I'm not here for that discussion.

Von Kaiser was pretty forgettable to me until the Wii iteration, where he became my favorite character. The characterization and themeing they gave him was incredibly endearing. I'd love to see him again in another game down the road, but who knows when that will be.

Fun fact: in von kaisers comic scene, he gets punched in the nuts by a 10 year old, which I think that’s why he looks like he just woke up from a nightmare in his minor circuit fight. Maybe because he’s just realizing you can’t punch someone in the nuts which is a relief

von kaiser is seriously underrated, i would argue one of my top 5 or even top 3 favorite characters from punch-out just by imagining his redemption arc or his prime in younger years

I always loved him and the fact he looks and fights like a badass when he is 45 and not in his prime is surprising. I think he's in the same boat as doc Louis that he was a big shot in his prime. The fact that he has the honor of being a military boxing coach might be implying that he was a huge deal and possibly a big contender in the wvba or even a champion in one of the 3 circuits. But I think personally he was a top 3 contender in world or a champion In major he's by far my favorite character 😂

I kinda want to see what a fight in his prime would be like. I think the TD was just a tase of that but weighed down by age. Sports can stack up a lot of wear and tear on a body in a relatively short time. Guy might have been a one man blitzkrieg in his prime.

Great video, I'm partial to Punch-Out videos in general but this was very well put together and on a character I didn't think much about before. It is pretty interesting that Von Kaiser isn't shown training, learning any new techniques, or straight-up cheating (they know who they are) for his Title Defense rematch. I get the idea that he was always as good as his Title Defense match, but he got in his own head after getting beat up by children. All he needed was a good helping of discipline to get his mind back in the game.

Thanks, I really appreciate that! TD Von Kaiser is probably the closest we get to seeing how strong he was in his prime. I'd imagine his aging body, slow reflexes and reaction times hold him back a little at 42, but he clearly still has some fight left in him. Just makes you wonder what a 20-something year old Kaiser was capable of back in the day, haha

First of all, this deserves way more recognition and your channel needs more spotlight... The editing quality is amazing, and you sound like a really cool guy! Also, this could spark a renewed interest in Punch Out!! and could potentially start a butterfly effect which could lead nintendo to finally make either a new Punch Out!! game or port the Wii one to the switch (or their next console? due to it potentially being a spark of new life into the Punch out community) On another note, please consider making videos of other characters, such as Piston Honda, I feel like Honda doesnt get enough love, his general aura, attacks and TD version is amazing! he really excels about introducing the player to redefined special attacks that the player thinks they know how to counter, but that could really get you! ie: His new piston rush, and seemingly taunting you for what would be a simple star, but in reality baiting you to pull off a clean punch.. his delayed attacks are actually quite tricky at first, and i think hes a really cool character you should DEFINITELY make another video on (if you are planning to make more). besides, he is one of the only characters that dont actuallly break any rule infractions! (aside from his headband, which could maybe be considered a head covering, but NES honda has you covered) Anyway, you have really earned yourself a new subscriber and potential member, thank you for making this video! (Also sorry if my english is weird because its not my native language and i might have overused punctuation or thing like that, so apologies in advance.)

I definitely wanna make more videos about the other boxers when I get a chance - Piston Honda/Hondo was always one of my favourites as well, I love how insanely fast he is. Imagine watching an orthodox, by-the-books fighter like him take on someone like Aran Ryan haha, that would be a battle to remember! I can't promise anything in the near future, as I have quite a few other miscellaneous Nintendo-related videos that I'm working on at the moment, but I'll absolutely consider adding more Punch-Out stuff to the list. Wonderful video! Punch-Out content is always great to see :) I’ve always found Von Kaiser very charming, but something I don’t see get mentioned often is the name of his 1-hit KO technique. Wiki sources often call it the Kaiser Wave, but I believe it has been referred to as the Kaiser Bomb in the past. While perhaps a bit insensitive, I think the latter makes him much more threatening and memorable!

Thanks for watching! The OHKO move has always been an interesting case, I don't think it ever had an official name in-game (besides "spin attack"), so fans decided to come up with their own. Kaiser Bomb is definitely a fitting name, that move is insanely strong!

I really like Von Kaiser, no scratch that, i LOVE Von Kaiser! He's my favorite Boxer in the game! Sure, he's easy, but i just love his personality! This is probably because i live in Germany and can understand him, but god damn is he funny! I have a thing with a friend, where instead of calling eachother stuff like asshole, or f*cker, we just call eachother things like: "Windmühle" and "Kampfstiefel" and the best part about it, is that we can do it in class too since we won't get in trouble for swearing at eachother! I don't even think my friend knows what Punch Out!! is, but that just shows that Von Kaiser's random ass phrases are funny! I also love his design! Sure, it's a bit cliche to make the German guy a stereotypical "Military dude" but i'll take that 1000 over the lederhose stereotype! I also like that Von Kaiser just feels german too. He really does speak like a german with things like "Dass ist boxen Little Mac und kein Tantenkaffee! " and "ich glaub ich hab 'ne schraube los!" His theme is also really, REALLY good! It's one of my favorites! (though, that's not saying much since i just love Punch Out!!'s OST. I've been obsessed with the Kampfmachine for YEARS at this point. I just ADORE him! Finding this video was a treat~! Just an absolutely lovely surprise to see a video all about my favorite Boxer!

I had a similar experience with Von Kaiser, as I was learning German at school when I first played through this game. As I learnt more and more words, I could understand more of what he was saying and he became a lot funnier to me!

Actually you can beat Glass Joe in 4 punches. It’s just a matter of waiting till Round 2 where he does his taunt again but you’ve gotten full opportunity to gain 3 stars after 3 mid attack punches then punch after his taunt

@@Fobb Also the fewest needed punches goes to Contender Tiger nd Hondo, it's just about waiting for their special moves then interrupting them with a punch for an instant knockdown three times to net a TKO, for Hondo the patience game's less tedious since his fight is specifically coded to immediately go for the Hondo Rush after getting knocked down two times in a single round letting you net a 3 punch TKO.

Gotta say, this video is very well done. I think you practically covered everything there is about Von Kaiser and then some. I quite like Von Kaiser myself. He may be my favorite boxer from the Minor Circuit, next to Glass Joe. I do have a question for you though, why do you think that Von Kaiser gets forgotten about when compared to the other boxers in the Punch Out series?

Much appreciated! I think Von Kaiser gets forgotten by most people for quite a few reasons. He's not one of the biggest personalities in the game (fighters like Aran Ryan and Super Macho Man are a lot flashier for example), so he kinda gets drowned out. Him being the second opponent in the game doesn't help his case either, as it meansthat he doesn't stick in the player's mind as much as Glass Joe does. I think people often view him as "just another weak early-game character", when in reality there's so much more to him than that.

As someone who never played punch out, Von kaiser is my favourite. His theme is great, he voicelines are great, his punching sounds are great and have no him give a knock out in one punch is great especially how you feel some pride of knocking him down the first time just to be beaten to the grown in a single bash.

Always felt bad for Von Kaiser, the way he shakes and essentially wakes up from what looks to be PTSD, bro is insanely relatable to me. Even his defeated pose in the selection screen is the same pose I do when I’m going through some PTSD moments… Still beat him tf down in round 1 with a three star punch making me instantly win, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care for him

The story of von kaiser would and amazing movie! From little german boy seeing power houses in the United States then he training up to the ranks in the World Circuit then losing and a lot of fights and losing his title by going down to Major Circuit then he opening a boxing school so he can train kids to be like him them after a punch to the gut they mocked him after a weak strike in the gut , and his carrier after his thirds went down to minor and he was sad and scared to try to imitated someone like soda mimnal attack with great power but was afraid then after his lose he would got back teaching in his decreasing boxing school until he saw that Little Mac won the world which he had a flashback to his prime he never couls after a quick cut and learning form his mistakes and emprassing his minimal attacks and learning to dodge his star punches a bit more then after a long battle mac loses the belt and von kaiser was finally achieved the thing hes worked for over 15 years the end! Also the best scene in this video: 5:54 Von Giga Kaiser

I've always loved Kaiser's TD fight as it's probably the most significant improvement any boxer in the game makes. Von Kaiser goes from pathetic in contender to being not only visually confident but a far better boxer. Honestly he's the best fight in TD Minor Circuit, with his fakeouts, fast jab and even his instakill. Not to mention the confidence does wonders

I think it is interessting, that Bald Bulls bullcharge can be countered to knock him down, but Von Kaisers one hit attack you have to dodge in one specific direction or you get hit and go down, that is very interessting imo

This guy is a crazy German stereotype. He seems strong and fierce what Germany is known for. Seeming very military loving like Germans did back in the Deutsches Kaiserreich from late the 19th century. But then he’s weak paying homage to Germany loosing 2 world wars they kinda started, Germany failing one revolution and having another one wich did succeed but people were miserable due to post WWI times and the whole cutting up Germany thing. As a German, I do appreciate this kind of stereotype because he’s neither an alcoholic in Lederhosen (Bavarian thing) nor is he scared of offending anyone due to Germany’s past. He’s basically still living in the late 19th century. Love a good German caricature.

It would've been cool if they changed up the order of the fighters in each circuit for Title Defense.TD Von Kaiser is easily tougher than Disco Kid and if they buffed him a bit more, he could definitely be the Minor Circuit champ!

I think he was very strong when he was young like a war machine but after getting old he got weaker like boxers usually retire after some ages I think 30 or something and kaiser has 42 💀

Im not sure if this is just me (it probably is) but, I've never seen the thing Von Kaiser does in Wii Punch-Out as HE HIMSELF crying for his mom. I always considered it as a form of mocking you, like YOU'RE gonna cry "mommy" by the time the fight's over.

7:37 German here. By windmill he meant, that Little Mac is just aimlessly flailing his arms, which makes him look like a windmill, hence why he was comparing it to his own precise punches. Or, to put it in dumb-dumb not European language: You can not hit - I hit very good. it's called a Metapher. But considering some braindead countries just insult, by saying "Fuck you" all day long, it's not surprising, that it can be hard to understand. Anyways; You're welcome.

@@_cfmca That depends on the language you speak. In Germany, such a comparision would easily click with people, even if they never heard of it before. The language people speak influences the perspective and way they think, which is why it is also something we are often hightly regarded for. But I obviously do not blame anyone, for not immediately catching on, to another culture's intricacies. Don't take my cheeky comment to close, to heart.

I disagree with your remarks on difficulty for the TD fight; personally I found it way too easy, it’s the only TD match I did first try infact. He’s just too slow to the punch, I really think they should have adjusted his timings on fake out punches to that you would get hit if you dodged on one. Also idk why nobody gets the windmill line, windmill punches are the ones where you spin your arm in a circle and walk towards the target; he’s saying your punches lack any thought or precision. I thought that was pretty obvious.

PUNCH OUT TIER LIST Wii 14 DISCO KID (Last doesn’t mean worst punch out is too awesome) 13 King Hippo Iconic but not as the others. 12 Piston Hondo (be disrespectful to him please) 11 Glass Joe he is kinda a meanie weenie, His TD match is annoying 10 Great Tiger is actually cool I lost 7 times because of my habits on the nes fight that didn’t translate to the Wii 9 DK no explanation 8 Don Flamingo HAHA. He doesn’t look like Adam Sandler is 100% improved 7 Bear Hugger, for a guy that seems chill he insane! 6 Soda Drinkenski Soda was always one of the trouble spots of a punch out game, beating him is the first test of advanced play. 5.Bald Bull. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Von Kaiser is how much missing context there is with him. Between questions about his record, his PTSD and where it could have come from, his militarism and especially extreme military persona he develops for TD, etc. There's a story behind Von Kaiser, a story that appears to have much more depth than the other fighters, but you don't get to see any of it.

There's a lot more to Von Kaiser than meets the eye! A lot of people tend to forget about him, but his story has so many hidden layers to it and leaves a lot open to the player's interpretation.
