Mark Hollis was a genius, a word that is overused but not in this case.

But for me his true timeless record is sole solo album, which was released in 1998.

SO influential to me throughout my life, and everywhere I read, also to so my other subsequent favourite artists. Where would our current music tapestry be without this music? We can only guess. Also, discovering Phill Brown worked on so many of my favourite albums is a revelation, particularly Sneakin Sally Through the Alley: What a line up! What a (3?) session(s)!

Thanks guys for that video. Mark's love of silence doesn't really surprise me. I guess he was a high emotional potential being. Those people don't need to communicate by talking, they most of the time rather use other means. They also don't really care about talking about insignificant things of the everyday life. You can notice it during interviews. Mark could seem really bored and then the journalist ask a certain question and, suddenly, he changes behaviour and starts delivering a message and could then talk on and on about it.

I first heard a track of this fabulous album on Radio 1 whilst at work in 1989 in Huddersfield. I was mesmerised, and purchased the album very soon after. I've been pushing this, Laughing Stock and Marks solo album ever since! I'd love to hear them all played in sequence, in an auditorium that would do these albums justice. Would a 5.1 mix work? I'm not sure. Would Mark have considered this idea of a surround sound mix? Obviously not, as there had been the opportunity to do so. Taken far too soon from this world, God bless you Mark. I'm glad to have been around to have heard and experienced your music.

I knew that Hollis was an intensely private man but never realised that the code of 'omerta' extended to his family & inner circle. I wonder if that is a product of Hollis' force of personality, or PTSD. Paul Webb is very reticent to talk Hollis, even three years after his death. I read that there were just two people from the music industry at his funeral service. Hats off to Ben! The book is well researched & makes for an enjoyable read.

Wow.... how do you know anything at all about his funeral? It is so amazing and wonderful how they could live their private life sooooo private even in times of posting everybody and everything... perfection as always if it is Mark behind... I heard that Lee was in contact with Mark until the very end... I just hope he attended the funeral.... How sad that their new house house was quickly sold after his death ... but I can understand it... I just love Mark Hollis for ever... His connected so many souls and it won`t get less by time.... Thank you all!!!!!

Wonderful talk. I've just finished your book Ben and it is indeed brilliant. I especially enjoyed learning about Mark's later 'ordinary' life. It was so expertly done, revealing some mysteries but also delicately leaving some stones unturned and his family in peace. I can't remember exactly where in your book, but there was a quote from Hollis about his love of juxtaposition. Of bringing two very different things together, and it just struck me how his house in East Sussex matches that characteristic. Glass and steel against Victorian brick, in harmony

@@Owlstretchingtime78 I do .Mojo magazine put spirit of eden in the top 1000 albums and a lot of the other musicians who wax lyrical about Talk Talk rarely mention Colour of spring .

@chromeheart6597 I read Mojo myself, so i'm aware of that list. I suppose i'm just giving you my experience of what people said about the album, and i don't recall one bad word. Of course these were all customers and friends. Cheers!

@@Owlstretchingtime78 No I didn’t say anyone gave it a bad word ,just that spirit of eden and laughing stock get all the plaudits usually when people say about Hollis’s genius but colour of spring is every bit as good ,although my personal favorite is London 1986 .

@chromeheart6597 The huge unexpected change in style that gave us the last two albums were a possible reason for the lack of praise that should have been granted to the admittedly superb game changer!

@@wardleben I watched the four episodes of interviews you did with Phil etc. I was wondering if you were going to do anymore as it's so enlightening but I think the people who could really make a sequel won't talk. It is such a good book I'm on my third read. Kudos and thanks for replying.
