In the Eighties, as a teenager, I ignored everything that smelled like Pop. I was more into Hard Rock, Blues Rock etc. And now, in my fifties, I discover what a fabulous, creative, influential band Talk Talk was. Wish I could have seen them live. Can't stop listening to "Life's what you make it" but especially to "Spirit of Eden". What a masterpiece!
@drsteele47494 ай бұрын
As a teenager you should have not have ignored anything. You should have assessed it all, given all a good hearing, found gems and weeds.
@matthewgriffin827Ай бұрын
Its always cool to be able to reassess what you may have previously not had a taste for. That seems like growth to me. We come to things in our own time. I certainly wouldn't judge someone based on what they did or didn't like as a teenager.

What makes Talk Talk great is that each band member is truly awesome and talented. No better bass, key boards, guitar, and percussion. Of course Hollis' vocals are stunning. As time passes, I hope people have an opportunity to really listen to Talk Talk and their musical genius.
@strictlynorton9 ай бұрын
Hollis was a visionary artist, who flatly refused to play the record company game. After the massive success of TT's two previous albums, he put out the jazz, rock fusion masterpieces Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. It showed extraordinary courage, but proof for future artists that came after Talk Talk to follow the muse wherever that led and not to cop out for commercial reasons and lose integrity. Ultimately integrity is all a true artist has in life. R.I.P. Mark you inspired so many of us to take chances.
@albinobeach9 ай бұрын
Yes, to add to that, he gave up performing music and concentrated on being a father after that. Mainly because he didn't want to compromise their upbringing by focusing on touring. I have so much respect for him as an artist and a person.

I only lived up the road in Shepherds Bush so could easily have gone but didn't, also gutted. Then again I think I'd appreciate it more now.

Don't wish to rub it in, I got to see them three times, not that great, they were fricking awesome. The first time was the Genesis reunion gig at Milton Keynes, not so good, but by 1985 and 86, out of this world.
