The suicide attack on Earth with which the Breen announced their entry into the war is worth examining in itself.

Its not just the mass production factor of their modular ships, but the fact after a battle you can make a new ship from the wrecks of THREE ships for example. It would make a war of attrition harder against them.

Considering how the Breen use the Borg tractor beam, this shows somewhat of a pattern that they usually go for shield or energy draining weapons.

The Breen are a very mysterious but dangerous species not to be messed nor underestimated.

Reminds me a bit of the nomadic horsemen of the east, like early Mongols or Tartars. Organized by fluid allegiences of small clans. They are light missile cavalry, suited for lightening swirling attacks. Deadly, but they had better not be caught in a melee with armored horsemen.

Such a fascinating species, though a massive plot contrivance.

The Breen are so interesting as a faction, there ships are so powerful that they change the course of the war more than the larger Cardassian union ever did. But they aren't an outwardly aggressive power seming to be more isolationist, if they were as outgoing as kilingons then they would be probly be pretty dangerous

Forgiven for two years. I like the theme of blades in the design language. The slow, silent knife, a perfect weapon for an assassin in the dark, which is what I think the Breen really represent. A deadly threat up close and unseen... but not something you'd put on the frontline. Splendid as always!!!

Amazing video, and it's interesting to note that even though they are a minor power, the Breen were able to enter the war with quite an impressive amount of organization and power. They were able to come out of the gate swinging with 5 fleets (they immediately lost one at Earth but still) and were able to muster 7 fleets in only a few months. I'm sure Gowron was shooting batleths with his ridiculous eyes at his logistics officers after seeing this.

Intrepid is a bleeding edge, no compromise, high performance machine made of the best technology starfleet had. The Idea that something, at least at sublight in the same weight class as an Intrepid can keep up and even outpace Intrepid is a pretty incredible feat and says a lot of the Breen engineering and specialisation, compared to Starfleet's generalisation. The Modular frame with plug-in modules concept isn't something we usually see in trek and I don't think have ever seen done to this extreme. The Industrial advantages to doing so would seem to be substantial. I would imagine that the Breen probably don't have cloaking devices, but certainly have other integrated Stealth technologies and well versed in stealth techniques owed to their history of Piracy.

This is complete head canon but I like to think the the 6 blades represent the 6 different species in the Confederacy and the ship shows the 6 working as 1 (both metaphorically and literally) Love your content dude ❤️

An interesting overview being made on the Breen fleets. Of the major powers of the Dominion War, they are quite the deadly wildcard. One wonders why their dynamics developed and how the events of Dominion War change their outlook.

Imagine Wayoung on his Star Destroyer talking to a group of Breen captains: "there will be a substantial reward for the Breen Crew that captures the USS Defiant, and i want Sisko alive...NO DISINTEGRATIONS!"

Could we get a segment on combat at warp? I would imagine the theater turns rather one dimensional being in lines and more calculations than maneuvering.

I always assumed the helmet was either to accommodate a muzzle or to have a simular silhouette to the head of a homeworld predator.

Sorry to bring it up if it was covered in previous videos but it intrigue me why breen bother to join the war in the first place ? Ok there is a hint that there was possible infiltration by the dominion in their command/government structure but breen would have to be given some big reason to join that war at all (given their isolationist nature). It would be funny if the Breen were an offshoot of the Hirogen. They both wear suits and are extremely aggressive. We know that their ancient space array network ends next to Federation and Romulan space which is close to where Breen space is.

Just saying, The Breen never dared take on Deep Space nine after the Yeager was posted there.

There should be designated storyline production focus on Breen in StarTrek.We know very little about them regarding their technology and even origin.They were using bioneural tech long before Voyager so their culture must be ancient than Human. In addition, the Breen deserve credits for the fact of even Klingons think twice to mess with them.

the Cluster being what was it 4-6 stars is an interesting idea for a unit though you did say its still specialized. though and this would be a very western WW2 style cluster though i would like i know if such would be deployed Carrier Star - 4 carriers -1 cruiser (start and cluster command) 2 destroyer stars - 4 destroyers of various types - 1 crab (star command) 2 figate stars - 5 frigates of crab or standard type 1 lancer star -5 lancers a bit larger than the 20 ships but i feel this leverages the carriers ability to use what sounded like very good strike craft with enough escorts and tactical flexibility to achive many roles in warfare whether it be fighter support for a larger fleet or independant raiding and harrasment.

And the Breen were never heard from again.

I’ve had no internet for a few days so catching up on my viewing backlog. I like the Breen ship and it’s one of my favourite non federation ship. I also love the modular design. When it comes to federation ships, I love when ships of the same generation use many of the same components

With their long and thin cruiser, it actually logically should be able to turn relatively well. Reason being the leverage from thrust vectoring the engines along with bow mounted thrusters would be pretty great for swinging the vehicle around.

I really like the nuance of the Breen tech and style, nicely separate from the other alien races and still quite formidable despite their inherent weaknesses.

I read that the Breen are sapient humanoid polar bears, hence the snout helmet and the refrigeration suits. This was in a post DS9 novel. They evolved on an ice world. However, there are several races belonging to the Breen Confederacy.

This would suggest to me that for the Siege of Cardassia that Thot Gor might have been looking for an easier escape. It would be a lot easier to cut and run if he and his Command staff was already in orbit if the battle went too far south.

I think there was a comic that has them as Canine faced alien species who need the cold to survive. It’s also revealed that they may also be multiple species but cover themselves up to make everyone equal.

I always think the Breen look like Princess Leia when she was disguised as a Bounty Hunter in Return of the Jedi.

Sounds like the Breen would be better up sticking to a guerrilla type of warfare, which their tactical doctrine and ships made them best suited to. While getting involved in a war, where set piece and massive scale battles were the norm.

Remember that the Klingons in the past sent an invasion force to conquer the Breen. They were never heard from again. So they do appear to be very good at combat.

Interesting how you kept saying how fragile the Breed ships are. When we first saw them the Defiant was blowing them apart for fun. It was the energy dampening weapon that made them such a challenge. Once that was solved I don't know how much of a danger they were to the heavier ship classes of the Federation/Klingon/Romulan alliance.

How do you define privateering vs pirate? In traditional sense privateering is when you're operating under the sponsorship of a specific state and are considered an agent of them to some degree, and piracy is primarily independent operations. So given the Breen are xenophobic and commerce oriented, how do these work? And why are the Breen 'larger' ships called frigates vs destroyers? In normal convention it tends to go the other way around

I wood say the breen are a sort of humanoïde (see the rest of the spacesute, and ther very long like vulcan or rumulan) The mask keep me thinking i wood say is more like a filter so thy can survive in hostile atmosfer. Like a human spacesute but then way beter and more armord.

i would have thought it would make sense for the breen to have 1 battleship/batlecrusier type ship maybe a rare but powerfull ship designed to counter say the Galaxy like the Breen see the Galaxy come and say hhmm that’s cool how about we make something to blow that up and thier finance guy says no to much money for that many of them and the other guy says well how about something almost that strong and only a few of them finance guy says sure that’s fine
