A nice interview with Diana Gabaldon to a day before her 9th book, "Tell The Bees I Am Gone". This interview was streamed by Eventbright and held at Penguin Random House in New York.

Diana is an exceptional writer, storyteller, and a observer of human nature that she embodies into her characters so realistically that it breathes life into the story and makes us , the reader, care about what happens to each. She has tyh magic touch that makes us turn the page, knowing we are involved in the lives of those moving about the page and into our hearts! ❤

This interviewer asked very good questions. Some don't or are only interested in the sexual side of the books. Well done.

Enjoyed being able to watch this Celebration at a later date. I was traveling and bought the book in the airport on the 23rd. I have been taking my time with this book instead of devouring it as I have done in the past. Diana I it's hard to believe you are 70. Looking great and youthful. May you have many more years of writing.

DG talks like she writes. Her thoughts tend to ramble but then she says something super relevant. I find her books to be written the same way. Sometimes paragraphs of prose just ramble on but then something major happens.

Agreed. More than half the references to JAMMF's red hair (which by now we know very well is a multi-hued red) would reduce her page count--as well as time required to write the books--significantly. Ditto to other references to flora, fauna, weather patterns and what not. As I first came to the books via audio I often yelled "get on with it" when such repetitive digressions occurred. In teaching, when an instructor deviates from the lesson at hand, such moments are called "bird walks." While interesting enough when a particular focus is not necessary and the teacher entertaining, it often means that the purpose of the lesson is not realized and the time wasted. With books in print format readers can scan, skip and flip back to the pertinent action or dialogue. And I've heard many Outlander series readers confess to doing just that. But you're quite right. After listening to numerous interviews with Diana, I often hear her speaking as I read. Alas, it pulls me out of the narrative when I do; therefore, I wouldn't call it her strength. I prefer the author to remain between or behind the lines, not in/on them. But that's me. Everyone is different.

Both a lot and hardly nothing at all happens in just 1 paragraph - that's why I love the books so much. If you don't pay attention you'll some important things.

Loved this interview. I have to say, it is obvious that the Outlander Team sort DG's advice and I am glad they did. The script is so funny, like S3E6, when Jamie says Come out! The stench of seaweed and whisky betrayed ya. I can only assume this came from DG. Such a gifted writer. Sorry haven't read the books yet.

Bees is sitting in my Kindle waiting for me to finish the last two books, because i always read the series in order, every time i read them, except, last time when i finished the series again and i “just wanted to re read that part where Clair recruited Roger, then told Brianna who she is,…” and….and…here i am in the middle of Snow and Ashes with Bees sitting in my Kindle…waiting. There is just something about these books.

@15.50 Hmmmm I disagree. MOBY was released in June 2014 but Sam was cast as JAMMF in early July 2013. In Chapter 92 of Written in My Own Heart's Blood there is a very brief reference to a blacksmith named Mr Heughan.... BTW - it's not a common name, even in Scotland!

So annoying that the interviewer doesn’t know how to pronounce the last name of the main characters correctly. It’s Fraser (fray-zer which rhymes with razor) not Fray-sure.

@@PM-kf7dg If you’re not annoyed at the mispronunciation, then you’re not a real fan. Or would you not care if someone kept saying your name wrong? It’s ignorant for the interviewer not to know this and it’s disrespectful to the author.

I love the way she describes the challenges involved in writing different characters! As in, Brianna is difficult to figure out, Roger is the most internally conflicted one (if I got it right), etc.,:) Respect!

Could everyone just learn how to pronounce the name Fraser please? After years of hearing it pronounced correctly on the show, and listening to the actors, directors etc, how can this woman, as charming as she is, continue to mispronounce it? I'm not the only one who finds it really grating.

Not her best book. Very disappointed. I feel I wasted so much energy anticipating the release of Bees during seven long years.
