James Crawford, author and chair of Publishing Scotland, chats with #Outlander author, Diana Gabaldon, in the Red Drawing Room at Hopetoun House in March 2019.
The exclusive ‘in conversation’ event was organised by national tourism body, VisitScotland, and book publishing industry body, Publishing Scotland.
It was one of a series of activities held to mark VisitScotland’s 50th anniversary and Diana Gabaldon’s Scottish Thistle Award for the Outlander Effect.
Hopetoun House, South Queensferry, has appeared in Seasons 1-3 of the Outlander TV series.

I so admire Diana’s confidence. She is neither arrogant nor pompous, but purely confident: in her abilities and herself. Such an inspiration.

I went to see her in Inverness, she was absolutely amazing. It was an amazing experience and we were spellbound. I can’t thank her enough for sharing the stories with us.

I feel like she's the female equivalent of George R R Martin, not just the fact that they're fantastic writers, but also the way they answer questions without a single second of hesitation or thought, like they just thought about their work so deeply that all of the information are just under the surface. They both understand human nature the way it works in real life and how people want to explore it in literature. so fascinating

Diana is fascinating! This is the first full interview I’ve listened with Diana alone (as opposed to joint interviews with the cast at conventions and such) and she is so well spoken and intelligent.

I really needed to find out how she got the ideas and and plots for her books and she definitely answers this and more. As others have said the audio is dreadful, such a shame but at least a record exists. What an amazing woman.

I love the books and the tv show but I have never understood why a lady from Oxfordshire would travel all the way up to Inverness to go to France!, she would go to south coast, Oxfordshire being south of England.
