The silicone damper, and block space is why I purchased the v84. But then used r84 bottom housing and pcb. I plan on buying the r84 pro, Once I figure out how to drill the holes for the usb ports from the standard model.

I bought the K2's Blue switches before, but it was a little too noisy for me. So I wanted to switch to the Gateron red switches, but after seeing the review of the Vissles switches, I decided to give it a try. It turns out to be a good deal. This keyboard is much more comfortable to type on than K2. Because the profile of this keyboard is not so high as k2 is.

Funnily enough, aside from the switches, I have the exact same MT3 susuwatari keycaps to go with my vissles v84, except that I haven't done any tape mod on it. Could you recommend a tape for me to use? I do somewhat feel a bit of regret getting this board, but I am happy with what I got functionally. I have the ajazz x huano banana tactile switches in them and they sound quite nice paired with the MT3 keycaps. I also switched out the stabs for some lubed fl cmmk stabs which are nice and smooth, better than the stock stab experience. I do still consider this a decent starter board as I feel it's a good introduction to the different components of a keyboard's dampening such as the case foam and silicone dampening and how the assembly works. However, I do share the same sentiments in that I now find it hard to recommend it to others. Regardless, I am still planning to bring the best out of this board, starting with the tape mod, and maybe considering the o-ring mod, but with 2 o-rings per screw perhaps. I have actually ordered a custom POM plate fit to this board besides ordering some plate foam to go with it to replace the silicone dampening which may possibly contribute to the muted sound. I'll never know until I try it out to see whether that will or will not offset the muted sound.

Sounds like a plan! My main problem with the board is just the VS2 switches, really. Replace those with anything halfway decent and it's a huge improvement. Those banana switches sound interesting. Reading Theremin Goat's review on them now hehe I've used both plain old beige masking tape as well as the neon painter's tape (Microtex/MTX branded) you can see in the video and both worked quite well for me. I've seen some people say that the plain beige masking tape might leave residue on your PCB but I haven't been able to confirm this. If you're going to do the o-ring mod with 2 o-rings, you might run into trouble with some of the screws being too close to the switches, especially the top middle one. Of course, you could just skip some of the screws altogether hehe. Good luck with the mods!

Hi Sir Caloy! Just watched your Q1 video on YT. I would like to know if you have tried using the PC plate with Boba U4T and SA keycaps. And if there is a difference with the sound compared to the aluminum plate? Thank you.

I only have the alu plate unfortunately. I would expect a change in plate material would produce a change in sound, as with any other board. Hard to say what change though without trying it 😅

I have a RK84 and with the Boba UT4, the thoc sounded weird...a little too loud. Good video though. Finally found a video of which I can relate to in regards to modding something similar to RK84. Were you able to try Gateron Milky Yellows on the V84 Pro or on the RK84? Thanks.

That's probably the long pole slap on the Bobas. It can get pretty loud especially on a tray mount board like the RK84. I don't have the V84 anymore and I don't actually remember if I used my Milky Yellow Pros on it 😅

It was my first mechanical keyboard, and I really didn't like the switches - too mushy, too light. I play piano so I like to feel resistance. Changed to Gateron Pro Yellow and its much better, plus better sounding.

Nice! Yeah, the stock switches are easily the worst thing about this board 😅
