You'd think considering that it costs 500 bucks, that they'd make the cartridge slot more stable.

It doesn't really matter when you upload in regards to retro game reviews, as the laws of analytics don't apply. Subscribers and social media followers will catch up within a few days, and nobody expects two, ten minute videos a day of fast edit vlogs and annoying screaming let's plays with arrows to boobs in a thumbnail and whatever other bullshit cheap tactics others use. It's old Nintendo, not Five Nights of Freddy Got Fingered by PewCowPie.

AlucardsQuest No KZfaqr is immune to the fact that people who work and/or go to school are usually not up at this time and are too lazy or constantly forgetting to scroll far back enough in their feeds to see videos like this alot of the time. No youtuber is immune to losing viewership due to long periods between uploads either. People like us are dedicated as fuk but we don't represent the majority of people that quickly move on in a blink of an eye. There used to be lots of ppl I loved watching but when they came back after long periods without uploads, I just wasn't interested anymore.

Everybody always says that for the good channels. Listen. The most popular channels like pewdepie have way more subs. But that doesn't mean it's a better channel. Mass appeal does not make for cool channels, it makes for super lame mainstream channels. Having a smaller sub count is a sign of a good channel unfortunately. Blame the mainstream mouthbreathers.
@Atlink
@Atlink 7 жыл бұрын
I partly agree with you, and him(her?). I do believe that a vast majority of channels with high user subs tend to pander toward the fans, and they pump out more videos to appease them, which makes the quality of each video suffer. That being said, there's nothing wrong with having a high user sub count as long as the producers of the content stick to their guns and keep doing what THEY want to do, rather than what the fans want. A good example that is video game related would be AVGN. His user sub count went through the roof, but he felt pressured to do more and more episodes faster and faster. While that's nice to have a steady stream of content, he made some pretty terrible reviews/videos because of it. I believe he noticed that and slowed his production schedule way down, and did some more easily accessible content (James and Mike Play, etc.) that is a lot easier to create to hold people over for the next video showcasing the main appeal of the channel.

AVS, for the money ($185), is the clear winner for me. All I needed was for my NES carts to look and play great on my 55" HDTV. Mission accomplished ! and I took the extra $300 I saved from not buying an Nt Mini and bought a brand new Nintendo Switch with the money. :)

I bought the NT Mini and absolutely love it. I also think it's not for everyone but if you really want the best way of experiencing NES/Famicom, this is it. I also have an AVS and Hi-def NES, because I wanted to compare them, and the NT mini really just blows the others out of the water, in my opinion. The hi-def NES has sound accuracy problems and some very popular games trigger a bug in the NES PPU that causes random corrupt scanlines, but is otherwise good. The AVS has very limited picture options and I had compatibility issues that were fixed with beta firmwares, but then in the betas my Everdrive had issues with it and the menu randomly corrupts itself.. krikzz just told someone who asked about it to use a real NES. And now I have no problems running anything straight off the sd card or cartridge slots in the NT mini on any of my tvs. No corrupt scanlines, no incorrect sound, no compatibility issues I've found.. the resolution and scaling options are great for any tv/monitor, and there are tons of other consoles kevtris is adding every week with no signs of stopping soon. the mapper support of the NES core blows the Everdrive out of the water, even supporting weird bootleg games like Mortal Kombat 3 or Pokemon Yellow for NES!

Sure... they have to make benefit of it... nowadays it's not uncommon to loose money by selling consoles and trying to recapture it with game sales... I think Microsoft lost approximately 100 USD every time a Xbox was sold... For that reason that's not the best comparison.

Loved the review! A couple of extra details if I may. Kevtris is not only the person who jailbroke the device, he's also the main engineer for it. So you could argue the jailbroken firmware is actually more official than the one provided by Analogue (which is also made by Kevtris). He also added SMS lightgun functionality to his To Do list during a stream with RetroRGB. Expansion sound chips are automatically detected and enabled when playing roms with headers from the SD slot. He's putting a lot of work on the cores since he will reuse them for his Zimba 3000 console which is another FPGA system he's planning to release soon, that one will be capable of 16-bit stuff and possibly even more. Finally, his nickname comes from a puzzle game he created, that's why it sounds like Kevin and Tetris.

Ordinarily I would never buy something this expensive just to play NES games, but I was kinda put on the spot at Thanksgiving by my parents about Christmas and it was the first thing that came to mind for some reason. They agreed to pay for half of it and gave me the money at Christmas and I felt awkward not buying it at that point so I did. Honestly I love the thing. Let me reduce two systems to one, both the games and the system itself look fantastic, I don't have to worry about emulation issues like with clone consoles, and I can play ROM hacks through the SD slot which is nice. Much like you guys I also prefer to use an actual NES pad with the thing, and the fact that I can is awesome.
@dacypher22
@dacypher22 7 жыл бұрын
I think this thing boils down to the user having two specific qualities: 1. A giant NES library and 2. Being obsessed with video and audio quality. If you have #1 there is a good chance you spend a lot of money on your NES collection (unless you got it all 15+ years ago). Considering how pricey NES games have gotten, $500 for the ultimate NES console doesn't seem that out of the question. And of course if the user is #2 this console does appear to offer the highest quality and most complete customization of video and audio. But if you have a smaller NES collection that is supplemented by ROMs to play games like Little Sampson and you just want HDMI out and a decent HDTV display, there are much cheaper emulation devices that will adequately meet your needs.
@peanutismint
@peanutismint 7 жыл бұрын
Great review, guys! It looks like a very capable system for real retro enthusiasts, but I think, as you said, it's just too expensive for someone like me (who's happy playing ROMs on an HDTV) to justify. With that in mind, I wondered which method/system you guys favour right now as a multi-console emulation solution for HDTV? Raspberry Pi? Hacked NES Classic? Hacked older games console (such as Xbox 360)? Or maybe even one of these Android sticks like an Amazon Fire or GameStick?

Now that the Analogue Super NT is up for pre-order, I hope they do a revision of the NT Mini that brings the cost down. It's "out of stock" and still lists at $450 where the Super NT is $189. If they brought the price of the NT Mini rev 2.0 down to maybe the $150 range, that would be pretty fantastic. The fact that these have options to output analogue signals to CRT's is what has me sold on them. My current setup is quite nice and I use an CRT but my NES is the only console I own that is still on composite. Be able to run component out of it through an NT Mini would be fantastic...but not at $450 haha. Great episode guys as it definitely gives me some ideas for the future!

To all the morons in here bashing the console, this is not an "emulation machine", it's a hardware simulation. The FPGA accurately simulates the hardware without any OS, APIs, emulator cores (GS describes these hardware cores incorrectly) or other nonsense in the way of just accurately cloning the system. No, your raspberry pi can not do lag-less simulation of NES games. No, not even your tricked out i7 can do it, because there's an OS in the way. If someone is looking for 100% accurate gaming (w/o lag) in 1080p (with pixel scaling), then this is the ultimate product.

He has in some older episodes. But Congress has since passed measures that make this illegal.

i love these review episodes (granted i love all your episodes). even though everyone and their mom is doing it right now, if you guys reviewed the nintendo switch i'd actually trust your review more than i'd trust the ones that everyone and their mom are doing. especially their mom. i mean what the hell does she know about video games?

Seriously, this thing is so great. You are getting around 20 different 8 Bit systems in one console, all with Everdrive like ability to play ROM's off of the SD card. I would never sell mine, not even for the crazy prices they are going for on Ebay now.

Even if I had that kind of disposable income, the unstable cartridge slot and lack of save states would be deal breakers at that price. Fix those issues and I'd be tempted to start saving up for one.
