Could you say that it is ironic as Amaka wishes to be like Kambili but Kambili also wishes to be like Amaka as she looks up to her or is that too far fetched?

That's a great question. Yes, the cousins are getting to know each other at this point in the novel. Both are somewhat jealous of what they perceive each other's life is like. So yes there is some irony in this.

Hi, i had a question, in all of my essays i usually write 500-700 words , but i wanted to know what is your recommended word count?

A really good question. Sorry for the delay: been grading mock exams for IGCSE and IB at my school atm. You will definitely write more words, the better you get to know the texts and practise planning and writing past questions under timed conditions (45 minutes). However, you should always be planning and writing to answer the question asked: this will allow you to address AO4 'Communicate a sensitive and informed personal response to literary texts.' By focusing your planning and essay on the question it will mean you do this. Also, by focusing on the writer's techniques and effects on you/ the reader/ the audience you will address AO1/2/3: see p8 of the syllabus: www.cambridgeinternational.org/Images/596436-2023-2025-syllabus.pdf. Every year the Chief Examiner states that the best answers fully address the question. So to go back to your question, it is important to aim for each and every paragraph you write to be focused on the question and also to practise under timed conditions.
