I have used both inexpensive (cheap) arrows and expensive arrows. Unless you are shooting 3D competitions or you just like to impress people with your arrows, your arrow selection should depend on its use not price. For everyday hunting uses inexpensive arrows are sufficient.

I really like this video! I’ve purchased and used Easton FMJ’s & Axis’s 300’s “Match grade” both were around $110 for a half dozen pre fletched and then I bought a half dozen maxima red sd’s $90 Pre fletched and they perform the best especially with fixed heads out of my setup ,a 2016 Halon 7 29.5 70# . I found it odd that the Cx arrows that cost $20 less performed better.”Cause usually you get what you pay for in the archery culture” so I asked my Bow Dr. At my local shop about it and he told me that it’s what your bow likes. Certain bows like a certain arrow. He compared it to firearms., some guns like A certain brand of ammunition over others. He said maxima reds are like the Hornady of arrows lol

It depends on what you do with the arrows. If you shoot at a target at 70 m with an Olympic bow and you want to hit the bull’s eye, then yeah you better use an expensive one. I use a 45 pounds Turkish bow ( thumb draw) to shoot human size target at about 60 meters and I use the cheapest arrows on Ebay and I hit the target most of the time. So it depends what you shooting at.

Good video, I moved almost as soon as I started shooting (within weeks) from cheap aluminium arrows to Easton Powerflights which I considered very very good value and plenty accurate given that my form wasn't consistant. I did switch to a more expensive shaft in a smaller diameter with a pin nock which I now build myself as I kept damaging the Powerflights due to arrow on arrow contact at 20m/20yrds (the furthest I can practice at home) using 6 arrows on a single face target. The more expensive shafts actually worked out cheaper as the only damage they've had is having the nocks broken but they can be easily replaced and cost very little even for the Accunocks that I use.

I'd like to see you do this with traditional arrows for recurve. I see more inexpensive fletched arrows from China on ebay for $30-$50 for 12, gold tip, Easton etc want $80 for six! That's a lot for a traditional beginner shooting in my back yard!

Thanks for this informative video. At age 63 I have been shooting bow now for 2 months. My bow and arrows come from garage sales, very inexpensive. My arrows are I think Easton aluminum shafts that needed knocks and fletching which I did myself so I now have about $50 invested in 24 arrows, now 23. At my skill level they do fine but like any shooting sport the better and more competitive you get the better your equipment may need to be. So like you say if you plan on getting better fast buy better arrows but if like myself you just want to have some fun, less expensive will likely do and you won’t spent hours looking for that expensive arrow that you missed with. : )

I got a dozen arrows from Amazon. They are a bit heavy but shoot well. I have been shooting them for about a month. They are holding up very well. Mine are Pointdo brand. I shoot Traditional style with a 35# recurve bow. For outdoor practice and stumping. I would recommend them. Not sure about compound bows though.

Archery noob here...bought my used Martin Jaguar on eBay with a couple ravaged carbon express arrows in the package. Of course, I’m new and can’t hit a 24 inch target at 10 meters...went to local archery shop and had the bow set up (limited by what you can do with this bow) and bought 3 entry level Gold Points which were the correct spine and were suggested by the shop owner. Wow! Big difference! Then I thought, “must have more arrows!” Bought a 12-pack for $36 on Amazon. These arrows were all right, but after spending a few weeks shooting 18-20 meters I’m getting form together and getting much better but... I know I’m new but when I go back to the Gold Tips and there is NO QUESTION...the Amazon arrows are okay up to a point but if you are serious about TARGET accuracy, there is a big difference. Now, about the bow....THAT is another story I’ll be telling somewhere else...😎

I don’t understand all the dislikes to be honest. His point is, the better the arrow, the tighter the group which ultimately and most likely you will have to pay a little extra for. Like he said at the end though, it’s not always a necessity. It’s okay to shoot cheaper arrows but if you’re competing you want the best arrow. Great video.

My main arrow are Gold Tip Trad Classic XT's, not cheap arrows but awesome and purdy. For those possibly going to lose or break the arrow moments I like using Gold Tip Trad blems. You can buy them cheap in good numbers and then make match sets. Usually the blemish is not very noticeable but sometimes it is but when you hear when head for Narnia or break it's not so bad. Just hope to get the nock and tip back if possible.

I'm getting good groups but what would you recommend on where to put my equipment investments first,arrows and fletching tools etc. Or sights and rests. I'm running a whisker biscuit and s trophy ridge sight. It's alright but definitely want to upgrade. Just unsure on where to start and where to focus first. Like most of us,I don't have thousands to jus go out and buy all at once. Bought a quality bow kinda as a baseline I'd be happy with and working up from there

Not quite. There are a lot of independent tests on a bunch of forums that clearly show that cheaper arrows are not worse than more expensive ones. If they hit the intended target - stick with the cheapest reliable option. Competition level international - might think of most expensive arrows.
@enrique6335

The more expensive options get a lot of visibility in tournaments but have to remember international high level archers are most likely given those for free as part of their sponsorhip contract. Have to find someone who has actually paid money to get unbiased views.

100% agree. When you are talking about the difference .006 and .004 "straightness' and 2 grains per inch (0.12 grams!) especially in traditional archery this means nothing! in terms of overall accuracy this is such a minute factor as opposed to, tuning (bow and arrows), technique and environmental conditions.

I believe you should get the best arrows you can afford; the arrow is what kills the animal you are after. You wouldn't shoot a bullet with grain differences; all my arrows are spine tested and they are identical it weight, i can put a 6in plate at 80 yards and put 5 out 5 arrows in it with broadheads, you can't do this with cheap crap. As a hunter we owe it to the animals we hunt to use the best. Not trying to be negative or disrespectful, just my opinion.

well i agree to what you said actually because back in time when people actually did archery for a living / war / hunting games ...... maybe goofing around they used premitove arrows and they were id say good with them because its their life style HOWEVER the main thing about straightness of an arrow is ofc a considerable accuracy in olympics ... you know you want to be the guy who's blowing the pea on the second and third lmao , thats why you need more straightness etc thats in my humble opneion BUT when you are going for hunting you need something that will work fine with you not necessary to be that expensive arrow because usually you are near the target not at 70 meters i believe ... you are hiding playing peekaboo with your prey camouflaged scent hidden with toilet papers .. i dont know maybe.. so yeah you may go for cheaper arrows because eventually you basically need something that will pierce through the flesh of your food to catch the more expensive the better but well cheap also would work depending on what you are hunting ... unpess if you are going for elephants or bears then its a different story than hunting a deer right?

Can't go wrong with Black Eagle Rampage.I have been shooting them for 3 years.They are a little on the light side for hunting,so just get the stainless steel inserts wich add 50 grains.They are micro diameter shafts and are great at longer yardage.They are cheaper than easton or gold tips with 001 straightness and are just as tough.The steel inserts greatly increase you're foc and fixed blade broadheads fly exactly like feild points provided you're bow is tuned properly and you have the spine matched with the poundage you are shooting.I'm not sponsered by Black Eagle or anything.Just a happy customer,for the price the quality is top notch.

Seems like you touched a nerve or two with this video. Cheap or expensive is a valid question. I just bough 12 arrows for $50 off amazon that are supposed to be 500 spine carbon fiber. They looked so pretty on the screen. I thought I was saving big. No more $60 for 6 arrows for this guy. Shooting side by side there is no comparison. Those cheap arrows are much heavier and under spines for their rating hitting the target at all kinds of crazy angles. Cut my accuracy and shooting distance in half. Half price = half assed.

I almost fell for the $40 amazon arrows. Luckily my shop let me test some good arrows. I started with Easton genesis and had terrible grouping. I swear the arrow looked like it was flying sideways. I tried some Black eagle vintage and it was like shooting lasers. I know they are not the best but they are so much better than the Easton low end line.

I use the same arrow. Lol $3.97 each at Walmart and their even more accurate with hellfire vains. I sighted my bow in at 40 yards with the 350 kryptos and compared them to the carbon express mayhem 250/350. And chronometer says the kryptos are faster and their even more accurate. (Kryptos 296 fps ) Carbon express mayhem ( 256.8 fps ) the kryptos are 7.6 GPi 350 spine with blazer vains so their by far not a bad arrow.

@neiljohn2894

So you recommend using cheap blots, um bolts for practise and better ones for hunting...you're assuming the crap bolts and the better ones all have the same/identical accuracy. The unfortunate animal you hit several inches distant from your point of aim endures a lingering rather than a swift death, but you've saved a few bucks even if you don't recover the animal. Good one!

Drew Dahlen Did you watch from 0:45 - 1:15 ....? This, like I started the video by saying, is a video explaining the differences between cheaper and expensive arrows. Not that you have to buy expensive things. I highly recommend you watch several other of my videos and see that I'm all about buying what is affordable for you and I wholly support people getting into archery, regardless of their budget. But thanks for your rude, condescending tone! Always an internet pleasure.

pretty sure dude you don't know jack if your saying cheaper arrows are not worth it then your a snob I use Accmos Arrows and they are wicket straight strong and dead on accurate of couse like any brand youll get the odd 1 or 2 dudes in a batch but that's ok they replace what you find is defective so top service from accmos 100% guarantee, i run their 500 spine arrows currently in my recurves and my compounds .. as for the weight thing even expensive arrows and tips and broadheads are never the same always a +or - on all them .. accmos also offers custom cut to lenght shaft to shaft cuts at that.. i also have some really expensive eastons and carbon rebels and a few others and you know what they are no better then the accmos you need to really..also no one needs top end arrows except for high end target shooters but for geneal target and hunting no one needs top of the line crap.. now I will say this to not totally diss you here there are some sellers on ebay and amazon that do sell total crap arrows i went for accmos because a friend has been using them for hunting and they work great for him and i Will say he is totally right hunting and target shooting great arrows and every bit as good as my more expensive stuff..

This Kid generally gives fairly good advice on topics Archery but this time, I'm afraid He's full of crap... If you're an IBO competition or Olympic Shooter then yes, arrow consistency is an essential goal and to get that level of true you are probably going to need to up your arrow anti. *BUT...FOR MOST GENERAL HUNTING AND SHOOTING, TARGET PRACTICE AND WHATNOTS...* Bargain arrows will do just fine... I promise you that at most practical hunting distances, the Deer will not know the difference and neither will you...For the record, I have several fiberglass arrows mixed in with my aluminums that I've owned since before this kid was born and I've lost count of how many animals I've killed with them. They are just about indestructible. They go where I point them EVERY SINGLE TIME....

Only elitists and fools spend money on expensive arrows. I've lost $10 arrows and it feels like I've taken a $10 bill and burned it. Spend your money on cheap arrows because chances are you will lose them or break them. At least you won't be out of pocket a lot of money.
