It's crazy how racially different Latin Americans from Mexico, central and South America are from Carribbean latinos. Most Caribbeans are basically black and white.

I not so sure that all the Indian ancestry of Caribbean Latinos is entirely Taino because the Spanish would ship native slaves from Mexico to the Caribbean also if I am not mistaking. You might want to look into this.

On the Origins of “Dominican” The first recorded use of the word "Dominican" is found in a letter written by King Phillip IV of Spain in 1625 to the inhabitants of the Spanish colony of Hispaniola. In this letter, which was written before the arrival of French settlers on the Western side of the island, the King congratulates the "Dominicans" for their heroic efforts in defending the territory from an attack by the Dutch fleet. The term or demonym ("gentilicio") "Dominican" was used in reference to the Dominican Order - after their patron Saint Dominic - which had been a key institution and element in shaping the island's post-Columbian religious and civic identity for over a century. This letter can be found today in the "Archivo General de Indias" in Seville, Spain.

Finally, someone who emphasized that these results are expressed as ranges! I got 14% for the Native American region, too, but my range was 12%-16%. It's really a shame that these Native American results aren't more specific because I've been reading in a book called Native Peoples of the Gulf Coast of Mexico that the Spanish sold some indigenous people from the coast of Mexico (the Huasteca) to the Caribbean islands, so it would be interesting to see how that might be expressed in the DNA of Dominicans or Puerto Ricans.

Sounds sophisticated, but not quite the case. Dominican Republic is part of the Hispañola. At one point, one island, having the French on the west cost area (that is Haiti nowadays) and Spaniards on the East, DR. The whole island had sugar plantations and many of our ancestors in the whole Caribbean were slaves and black. In fact, many families were divided and later on, permanently separated by the division of the island. Most Caribbean people have African ancestors, wanted or not, also Taino blood. We called that "y tu abuela donde esta?" because many people want to deny this fact, instead of embracing how beautiful is our Latin-American culture. The Spaniards did a pretty good job "brainwashing" the islands' people into making them believe they were white and Spaniards, to prevent loosing their $$ sugar colonies, which they later abandoned. In fact, if you do some research on the colonization, you will find documents establishing how the Spaniards would pick up people from many European islands (entire families) and lured them to the Caribbean, promising land, in exchange for their oaths to their flag, in an attempt to maintain the colonies under the Spain crown. Hence, many families have DNA simultaneously in various Caribbean islands, since the 1500 hundreds. So, it is time to recognize and respect that many of our ancestors may have family in Haiti, Cuba or Puerto Rico. Blesdings to all.

I really want to do one of these tests! I am so curious about my ethnicity because my family comes in all colors (as many dominican families are). While I have "light" skin (I am not white but I also am fairly light compared to my family) but I am sure that I have a lot of african in my dna as my mother, my grandpa, half my cousins, and my sibblings have darker skin and most of us have curly to coily hair. I am so curious to see if any of these tests is detailed enough to pinpoint the african countries that my ancestors came from. From the european side, it was well documented and i know that we have a lot of spanish and french in my family, but from africa we have no clue

A Dominican woman I was speaking to a few years ago was telling me that Spain was getting upset that there were so many blacks in the Dominican that they wanted to whiten things up so they imported more Spaniards to mix in to try to make the population more white. This was a white Dominican who told me this. She claimed to be all Spanish, no part black. I understand that black slaves were brought there but the Spaniards were upset that they were being outnumbered so they brought in more Spaniards to whiten things up.

Go and search it if you have european and african you have greek too. Also Arabic is really common because the more older the country are the more chance you have to be mixed with them.
